The realization that one is Shiva in the Natha Rishi Parampara begins with understanding that Shiva is not separate but the essence of one's true Self. In this lineage, the journey starts with grounding in Prakruti Dharma-living in harmony with nature, understanding that all forms of life are interconnected, and seeing the Earth as a living, breathing entity. This environmental stewardship is the first step, as it humbles the seeker, aligning them with the greater rhythms of the cosmos.
The seeker progresses through stages of initiation, each level unlocking siddhis, or spiritual powers, that unfold their inner potential. Using the teachings of the Vijnana Bhairava Tantra, the sadhaka (spiritual aspirant) practices dharanas, meditations that gradually dissolve the egoic boundaries. The focus on Kaulachara, Kaula traditions, and Kriya Yoga leads the practitioner deeper into Tantric rituals and abhishekas (empowerments), revealing the non-duality of Shiva and Shakti.
As one ascends through the mystical teachings, integrating the Six Yogas of Naropa and Kashmiri Shaivism's Pratyabhijna philosophy, the sadhaka comes to see that Shiva is the essence of consciousness itself, and the individual Self merges into this realization-Shivoham, “I am Shiva.”
