Welding seems to be knitted by someone in a dark room with their feet. Hey! if it holds and passes it is a good enough job. No Lanoguard sprayed there then! don't forget the anti rush and painting to keep the dreaded red stuff at bay. Nice short little video. Many thanks for sharing. Stay safe and enjoy.

I have the same welder as you, but converted it to use gas (I use Hobbyweld). It transformed the performance of the welder and the quality of the welds. I would probably have butt welded that repair, so there is no overlap to trap moisture and I always use weldthrough primer. However, as you can access the reverse side and apply cavity wax or Lanoguard you should be ok.

Good Job i would have butt welded that panel in tbh. There was still some rust inside the cavity nearest to the camera if you can get some paint on the back of the panel that will help otherwise it will rust out again. I spray a bit of weld through priner on the back of the new metal. I have same welder you have and they do the job well for the money👍

Thanks for the tip, @markberry8182. I did paint and lanoguard the inside but it was difficult getting it in there

Good evening man. A few tips spray patch panel first before weld with weld through primer and now u have it in place get lanoguard or some treat ment into that cavity. And seam sealer would be great on top of the welds. A horrible job to do lying under the van. Very dangerous in case a fire started. U need to get it up on a ramp or two to make the job safer. Good work doing it urself
@HermanHitstheRoad4 ай бұрын
Thanks @marcusd2380 👍👍 . I did think about painting it before welding but I thought it would just melt away
@Simon_W744 ай бұрын
What you could have done is use the cut out section as your template and then tack weld it, slowly joining up the welds then grind back to a almost invisible finish that the fresh underseal would have hidden. That said you now have a nice solid section that was rather holey before. Nessa has a section of the old door well missing due to rust removing a good section of it. as it wasn't structural it wasn't a problem going through the MOT. Although she did require some welding that the Garage did, that I haven't seen yet as I still haven,t been back under her since the mammoth de rusting, treating and painting I did over a year ago.

I can't remember, @Motorhomebudgeting but looking at the video it's a Clarke Weld 90 EN. I bought it from Halfords, I think.
@johnrob61324 ай бұрын
Well done. If you had that done at a garage it would have cost a tidy sum. The cosmetic side of the welding is not important because it is not seen. It will still do the job.

Don't know if it helps, the torch cable needs a nice straight run, with as few bends as possible (space permitting) we used to blow the liner out with the air line, the wire feed can scrape small bits of metal off, and tight bends can become sticking points, as others have noted, still got rust in there, better solution would be bigger panels, either made or bought, many chassis rails as very similar and can be 'modified'. Sadly, rust is a nightmare, even the smallest job, you can end up chasing it much further, all of it can be fixed, just a question of time and money.

Not a bad effort if you were using a gasless Mig... A nice application of underseal and jobs a good one. If the chassis is the same as mine, check under the front wheel arches in front of the wheel. I had to repair mine under the battery. And if you think spatter down the sleeve if painful, then wait for the spatter down the ear hole... 😮😮😏
@HermanHitstheRoad4 ай бұрын
OUCH!! That does sound painful, @PK_Blinder. Yeah, I painted and Lanoguarded it off camera

A really informative video, I’m in awe of your willingness to tackle these jobs. Could I offer some constructive feedback - your thumbnail pictures with the exaggerated facial expressions - to be honest I find them tiresome & repetitive- it is of course just my opinion but I think they detract from your videos which are really interesting.
