Leh is actually at a height of 3500 meter. And, yes, it takes your breath away if you come from sea level as the air pressure compared to sea level is only 65%. When living at an elevation, like Srinagar, the difference to that (about 1600 meter) is much less. The higher level people live, the higher their amount of red blood cells, so when someone from Srinagar comes, that person will have less trouble with becoming out of breath.
