I've been asked at the beginning of the video "What's wrong with Hunters? Well....
Hunters hunting for food? Nothing. I've hunted for food myself.
Hunting to control the population? Understandable.
Hunters hunting for fun? Depends. A couple years ago while hiking April and I found 11 deer piled up in Wharton that were all shot and were only missing their heads. Not sure what kind of "hunting" that was. And as Butch Brown also pointed out... "They help control the population to prevent the spreading of diseases and overeating areas causing starvation. The taxes the hunters pay to the state through license fees, taxes on firearms, ammo, and all things hunting-related go to the purchase and preservation of these areas."
So My short answer is there is nothing wrong with hunters.

The main reason its deadly is because without minerals in water its less buoyant. So its harder to swim then regular lakes. Also, the shelf around edge collapses occasionally. So people standing in 1 foot of water are suddenly in 25 ft of water. Couple teens and numerous adults have died. Stay away, hefty fine if busted.

Bahamas of New Jersey ain’t never heard that term before growing up here I like it it’s pretty neat. The blue water is from the lime stone that sits about 600 to 700 feet below the surface I was told growing up and is the natural color of the water in South Jersey not the black water that most people see. That water is from the cedar trees and that’s why it looks like tea. Scuba diving in these blue Lakes is very good they have excellent invisibility. Word of caution. do not take your vehicle too close to the edge of these lakes they have a very steep drop off and there has been vehicles lost in them over the years from the sand giving away around the banks.

Please people don’t swim in these blue holes !!! Every body of water has currents , tides and an under toe . Lots of these places have mining equipment and even pipes and ventilation shafts under the water you can’t see .. and watch out for quick sand it’s no joke . I’ve personally had to dive into a quarry that looked just like this to recover a 7 year old boy who’s shirt got caught on a piece of piping 40+ feet under water after jumping in the quarry a few hours before and never surfacing .. not uncommon for them to find some of the swimmers for weeks , sometimes months in some of these places .. Beautiful but dangerous just wait til summer when idiots destroy it partying and leaving trash everywhere

We had to bring more camera gear to try to get the beauty of this place. It's like a hidden gem in the rough. Most of the people that live near it didn't even know it is back there. Yellowstone is another of our favorites. I just wished they would have let me fly the drone above the geysers and holes. We're making our plans for this year's adventures. Starting this weekend. Going camping in 5 degrees (-15c) weather. Great way to start the new year!

Oh, please correct me if I'm mistaken, but isn't the oh-so-famous "Sarco lands" actually located in central Jersey, in Manchester NJ? Pretty sure I kicked off the video with "we are in South Jersey," but maybe that's just my wild imagination. This spot used to be owned by the Atlantic City Power company, but sure, now it's a lovely wildlife refuge. And, it's outside of Millville. And yes, I call it the Bahamas of New Jersey-just like the locals who introduced me to this hidden gem

There are a bunch of these mines around south jersey. The water is over 300 feet deep in certain areas. You can read the public filings from heritage mining company. They mined monazite a radioactive mineral, titanium, and other minerals here. The site was considered a hazardous waste site by the dep and nuclear regulatory commission. There’s a lot of awesome info on these mines. Some of them are still active like the one in west creek. They use a dredge to bring the material up from so far down below the waters surface. Really cool stuff.

I have wonderful and beautiful memories here with college friends! I however highly warn everyone to NOT ENTER OR SWIM in these waters. A few years back, there’s one very similar to this one in Mays Landing, NJ, it became very discoverable and popular, and a very loved and known guy in the community DIED in these waters because he was sucked right in trying to save his friend who was sinking. His friend survived, but he died, and search and rescue never found his body. This was super heartbreaking for the community. Please be very careful!

There's a park nearby it, takes a good 5 minute walk, it's off limits though and park rangers go back there and either ticket you or get you outta there. Someone drowned in it so it's basically a lost cause at this point.

There is an easier way if you go down the main road of Collings Lakes it will lead you to a school park your car in there and walk down the road. You’ll see a big yellow sign and it’s a straight path straight to the quarry.

Thank you for the comment. Almost all of the "Blue holes" are private property. I've contacted the NJDEP about this property ( I was still active duty in the military and didn't want to tresspass myself) and according to the NJDEP, this is part of the Menantico Ponds Fish and Wildlife Management Area. The property was purchased by the state in 2020 I do believe. I will need to take a ride out there one day and see if there are any signs that say not to enter the area. Cheers Shu.

@@KarateCombatExclusive Menantico Ponds Fish and Wildlife Management Area. It's a long gravel driveway into the woods, once you get the the end and park go left along the train tracks from the direction you pulled in and keep walking until you start coming close to the first decent size lake if you're tracking your progress on something like google maps. Then start looking for trails into the woods on the left side, there's a couple that will lead there so its hard to give exact directions from this point but basically make sure you're heading pretty much towards that lake from the tracks and you'll find it, if you hit a dead end I do remember that the path right next to it leads to the lake area. You can either head left near the more shallow sandy part of the lake or keep going down the tracks a little further until you're closer to the deeper bluer part of the lake, I find that side prettier but its all cool. Hope this is helpful, just ask if you need any more clarification and I'll see if I can oblige.

@@LivingFree365 I am not a hunter, I am an Ecologist and Engineer. I shoot, but don't hunt, but appreciate "most" hunting. I found the negative way hunters were portrayed to be inaccurate. In that particular wildlife zone there are over 100 huge, NJ State provided & maintained hunting swaths that the NJDEP encourages hunters to use to thin the heard. "State" Hunting Zone, not private hunting club area. This is not a "how many hunters to kill one deer" situation. Those 20 hunters barely used 10% of the zones. And they can one take 1 deer each during a very limited hunting window. Biggest issue with too many deer is that they strip the plants from the banks of all the waterways due to no predators, which can ruin the waterways. These hunters truly provide a necessary service, like it or not.
@LivingFree365

@@mrc9953 That makes perfect sense. Did you even read the video description? We reported the 11 deer to a ranger and he even agreed that it wasn't hunting or control. I used to hunt. I hunted for food, not for trophies. I'm just amazed at how people only focus on the first 15 seconds of the vidoe and an entire video description and video about the Bahamas of New Jersey gets ignored. I just wish people would read the description to understand where the mentioning of the hunters come in at. Like it or not, that's what the video description is for. Explaining parts of the video.

@@LivingFree365 You are so right! And I certainly did not ignore the purpose of the video. I watched the entire video and liked it very much. As soon as the weather breaks a bit I plan to visit that lake, mainly because of your video. Thanks for taking the time and effort to produce and post about a little known, special spot in NJ. We also plan to do a little Amber hunting at the Sayreville clay pits. Virtually no one knows that NJ has some of the oldest amber. Ranger's are humans with emotions and opinions like everyone else. The overall deer quota's in NJ are based on control of the deer population. As you know, if it wasn't about control Murphy would be trying top stop deer hunting, just like he did with bear. Respect for hunting for food. It is something most should know how to do, even if they never have to. My apologizes for being cynical.

@@mrc9953 You will love it out there. It is so peaceful. I would definitely recommend packing a lunch. I just read up on the Sayreville clay pits and the amber. I never knew any of that. I retired from the Coast Guard 2 years ago and decided to stay here in NJ. New Jersey actually has lots of cool and odd places to go (outdoor type of places), It's just hard to find some of them. We will definitely need to go there and see if we can find a piece of amber. I agree most people should know how to hunt for food. There should be an optional class in school for that. (Ya never know when it might come in handy). Cheers! Shu

Private Property? Who's? The Atlantic City Electric Company owned it as well as the orchard. They donated the strip mine to the state which became part of the Menantico Ponds Wildlife Area by having the land deeded to the state. Which now connects Menantico Ponds Wildlife Area to Peaslee Wildlife Mgmt Area. Unless I am mistaken then I would like to ask. Who would the land belong to?

@@gregpeacheysr4738 Cool, Thank you. I've been wondering myself. I read an article about how Vineland wasn't happy that a lot of the land was turned over to the state ( back, water half) because it can be used as future commercial property which would have increased the tax revenue for Vineland. Any info would be helpful so I can update the description with accurate information.

I grew up and still have family living on Rt 49 across the street from that area. The owner of the one sandplant was a close family friend. The one closer to 49 was owned by Wolfe, he was also the person who started the Holly Farm. The one you were at was owned by Bivens, then his son in law Shaw, he was the family friend. Wolfe closed and the ground was sold to AC electric who built the current "Holly House" to replace the original and they installed the generating station down the road. Then it was sold to a group of investers, with the exception of the generating staion , who had plans for housing and a golf course. They had varied proposals through the years with nothing coming of it. It was sold in the past year to the State and attached to the Menantico Ponds area. Shaws plant was sold to Unimen and continued in operation for years. They closed when the better sand was mined out and better sand was found in the Mauricetown/Newport area. They sold that area to the Nature Conservacy who presently owns it. The entire area is within Millville and Maurice River Township. No part of that area is in or near Vineland. You missed the Fries Mills ruins which is right after the train trestle crossing the Manumuskin stream. They are the remains of a small village that was a saw mill from around 1800. Another entrance would be Rt55 to Schooner Landing road. Take the exit, make a left over the overpass and the road ends. That was the entrance to the area you were in. Park at the gate and walk in from there, that would put you closer to the ponds.
