The first Poppy song I ever listened to was Bleach Blonde Baby and It's still one of my favorite songs 6 years later, and I still use the alias "Computer Boy" for my own songs as an ode to one of my main inspirations

Cece,I enjoyed your reaction to this album and my personal favorites from it are Bleach Blonde Baby,Interweb and Pop Music and I have a sweet-spot for I'M Poppy as it is so cute. I give this album a 6/10 but when you do her debut EP Bubble-bath I give that EP a solid 10/10. Poppy has had an amazing career to date and she doesn't follow but leads and has become so vital to independent music that some are covering her now. Poppy rocks!!! Voicemail is the song you are reminded of when listening to My Style and happy birthday to you,Cece!

i get why you're not as crazy about this one. most Poppy fans feel the same about it especially the people who discovered her through the latest projects that she has put out. personally, i think this is one of the best alternative pop records of the 2010s. hear me out... the thing that stands out the most about this album is the lyricism, while it might seem simple/cute it has a dark undertone to it in a way that it's making fun of consumerism, internet culture and the music industry.. and more. it's an album that correlates to her old strange/clever videos that she used to post back in the day. (hence the makeup, style, fame, internet, KZbin, followers references) the glitchy production is not for everyone, it definitely requires some adjusting. but in her defense this is from 2017. as someone who enjoys this style and listens to it a lot. i couldn't name a single artist who was doing it as good as her at the time. especially given that she was mainstream. it was a pretty refreshing sound given that every pop song from 2017 sounded like a dark bassy edm fusion. anyway, i'm glad you liked some songs. Interweb is a bop.

“Interweb,” “Moshi Moshi,” & “Bleach Blonde Baby,” are the obvious standouts, but I also enjoy “My Microphone,” “Pop Music,” & “My Style.” The rest is not only “whatever” but I too was taken aback by lyrics in those two songs. Remember, though it was the end of an era, the novelty of Chiptunes had not completely worn off by the time the album came out. I do look forward to the music video reactions, they’re extremely helpful for some of the songs on this album, though I do not believe the most egregious songs have videos-They really add context and make better the ones that are already good and some of the more “meh” ones. Also, in your journey, if you have not already, be sure to checkout her graphic novels.

I actually agree with you Cece, this isn't my cup of tea either. Happy Birthday tho! 💜 Also, her first project, Bubblebath is actually considered pretty good, I love it personally! There's another song you should check out called Just My Type, it was recorded in 2016 for the cartoon, We Bare Bears, and it fits the sound of bubblebath decently!

I love that you mentioned in My Microphone that the rock influence is foreshadowing to her future career. It is also her first song to have 'switch up' sound in a song (as we all know, she did a lot of genre switch up during AIAG?, choke, ID, EAT, and Flux era)

i enjoyed your honest reactions and comments, this album isnt exactly bops its more like a musical theater soundtrack type thing to go along with her old youtube videos and the poppy genesis grapgic novel and whole robot girl era

Exactly, bread. Cece, there was also a whole mysterious computer boy ARG in which there was a real person being the character of "c0mput3r80y" I think it was and became beloved by many of us. "He" interacted daily with fans on discord, reddit and then its own website, and gave clues for the next steps to "Save Poppy." So, a lot of this album's songs took on a more eerie feel at that time than what may come across to someone listening now. Computer Boy's lyrics crack me up. Also, Interweb rocked my WORLD back then!

back then poppy was making faux pop music. if you can't appreciate the making fun of the pop music industry, you are missing a significant portion of the project. ...imo. most of the songs were videos singles first as well, so i recommend watching the videos. also this is just barely after the year (or so) of quirky existential non-music videos. so it's not an attempt at making hit music, but like a really bad horror movie that becomes a classic because it is so bad. ...imo
