Red: bubbly, poppy, fun, bright Velvet: sexy, RnB, smooth Their whole concept is built on the duality of their sound. Yeri was added, she was too young when they debuted so she wasn't in Happiness but she was added later. Red Velvet has some of the most diverse and experimental discography in the kpop world and I have loved almost everything they've done since their debut. I would recommend Bad Boy, Really Bad Boy, Peekaboo, #CookieJar, Wild Side, and Red Flavor!

Yeri (the youngest) was added in 2015 because I think she was too young (15) in 2014. I think they were supposed to debut in 2015, but SM rushed the debut. She was always supposed to be in the group, but made her official debut with them in Ice Cream Cake

​@@hnt8461You are correct. In 2014, the South Korean Fair Trade Commission changed the labor laws forbidding trainees under the International age of 16 from working more than 35 hours per week. This would have been extremely disruptive to a newly debuted group as Idols sometimes have to work really long hours. Especially where travel time and video shoots are involved, so she was added later. If you look at the dates that Aitomatic and Ice-Cream Cake were uploaded, Yeri had just turned 16 about a week beforehand.

Red Velvet is my favorite group, 3rd gen of K-Pop. They are known by the nicknames: Queen of Summer, Queen of Harmony, Queen of B-sides, and fans and idols are talented. Queen of Summer: Red Velvet is a group whose summer songs are not so famous but highly appreciated. Some examples: Are happiness, Red Flavor, Power Up, and Umpah Umpah. Especially "Umpah Umpah" won the Song of the Year award at the 4th Asia Artist Awards on November 26, 2019. Queen of Harmony: Not only Red Velvet; any group from SM Entertainment also has a good or above vocal level and excellent harmonies. Bonus: What's interesting is that both Red Velvet's highest and lowest notes recorded in the Studio didn't come from Wendy - Main Vocalist. It comes from Main Rapper - Irene, about this highest note, is also the highest note in KPOP history. Of course, to protect her voice, Irene did not "scream" that note when performing live. When on stage, Red Velvet's highest note was recorded by both Seulgi and Wendy. Queen of B-sides: Red Velvet is the foundation of excellent B-sides. Red Velvet B-sides can become the title song, even better than the title song. They raise the demands of KPOP listeners higher and harder. Today's listeners expect all the B-sides and the title track to be good. Before, just a good title song was enough. So every group in the 4th generation is more challenging because they are forced to have good B-sides to be considered a good comeback. Fans and Idols are talented: Red Velvet has ReVeluv (Red Velvet's fan community, Luvies for short) is a community that sings very well. In Red Velvet's album, there will always be a song that is nothing special, easy to sing and listen to. The purpose of these songs is for fans to sing. Red Velvet has 5 members, names and roles of each member are: Irene: Main Rapper, Lead Dancer, Sub Vocalist, Visual, MC, Face and Mom Of The Group, Leader, Center. Red Velvet tries all kinds of music, but there are two clear styles. Innocent, playful, lovely of the "Red side"; Mature, seductive, scary, and powerful of the "Velvet side". "Automatic" in the video surprised me with the way you chose songs! I think you will be very confused when listening to them because Happiness or Dumb Dumb and Automatic are 2 completely different styles. It's so different that they could be mistaken for two different groups, plus the addition of Yeri. And I was right!! Ice Cream Cake and Automatic is a double title track of Red Velvet's 1st mini album. (1 Red and 1 Velvet) Usually, people will listen to Ice Cream Cake. Or instead of Russian Roulette, they will often listen to "Be Natural". This is Red Velvet's second single right after Happiness, the first introduction to the "Velvet Side". The video now will have 2 Red and 2 Velvet. It will be less confusing. If the next video you continue in the timeline and listen to Bad Boy, One Of These Nights, Peek-A-Boo, Rookie, or Red Flavor. I think your brain will explode from overload. Again, you put a fun, cute "Red" song between the three "Velvet" songs that are full of power, maturity, and a little creepy. LOL

I'm here watching all on your dreamcatcher journey and i'm pretty sure someone already have said that you can expect any concept/genre in dreamcatcher B-sides. You can expect the same for Red Velvet, but include title tracks too. Dreamcatcher is my 'ultimate' group, but if i check my most listened songs in 2023, there will be much more red velvet than dreamcatcher among them. I like alot of b-sides of both groups, but considering only the title tracks for Red Velvet, Psycho, Queendom and Bad Boy are my personal favorites. Later in the journey you probably will check some solo songs too, both Wendy and Seulgi albums are masterpieces. And a random curiosity: i had contact first with Wendy, with the song 'Goodbye', a ost from 'The Beauty Inside', a 2018 drama, before know anything about red velvet, but started really listen to RV in 2021.

Okay there has to be clarification LOL! Yes Red Velvet does originally have 2 concepts.. RED and VELVET.. as other comments have kindly described their RED and VELVET. But sometimes they do a combination of both RED and VELVET.. aka RED VELVET. Where there’s a hint of upbeat and weird concept, but still have the r&b/hip hop undertones or influence on how they sing or harmonize. Sometimes with a little hint of dark tones in MV concept. Oh and yes RV is the kind of group where it is difficult to have a true bias. At some point I’ve been wrecked and changed my bias so many times. I love and support them all equally. However, I have always been drawn to the 94-line of RV..aka the besties Wendy and Seulgi. So I guess you can say they’re my co-biases.. sometimes Joy tries to wreck me. But I can’t deny my love for Wendy and Seulgi.

Hi! I've been enjoying your discovering videos of Twice, Red Velvet and Dreamcatcher. You've been covering some of my favorite groups and I love it haha. I came to recommend you some groups if you're interested in doing some more discovering and you don't mind. First, I'd like to recommend my ultimate group, Mamamoo. I don't know how familiar are you with kpop since I've only found your channel, but they are known as the vocal queens of kpop and I think you would like their vibe. They're more of a woman group and have amazing discography (also an amazing rapper with a lower voice I think you would really like. Moonbyul is the most credited female rapper in kpop and is known for writing her own verses). All the members are also solo artists and they've been around since 2014 so they have a lot of songs haha. If you want to do a discovering video on them I think you should first watch Hip, Starry Night, Egotistic (a must watch and I must warn you, you will die), and Aya (all of them have different vibes so be ready for a ride). If you already know them it would be kinda embarrassing for me to say all this haha, but I hope you will check them out! Second, if you like darker concepts I think you would like Pixy! They have more like a Dreamcatcher vibe. I'm not really a full stan but I'm really enjoying their music for an Insomnia! For a first watch I would recommend Wings, Addicted, Bewitched and Villain (The new comeback is also great, Karma). Now to keep up with the newest groups recommendations, I think XG is a must watch! They are a really unique group since they're all Japanese, but they do their promotions like a kpop group in Korea and their songs are all in english! They have a more R&B style and they're exceptional dancers. They also have a lot of before debut content you can watch (from dance videos to vocal and rap ones) and one of the best rap lines in this new generation. They went viral for their rap cypher for rapping flawless in 3 languages (Korean, Japanese and english). They don't have a lot of music out so you can do it all in one video if you want: Tippy Toes, Mascara, Shooting Star, Left Right. I don't know if you'll read this long message and I'm sorry for continuing, but I would like to recommend one more group I think you would enjoy. (G)I-dle (pronounced without the G). They have more of an unique style and you never know what to expect from a new comeback with them. What I like about them is that they're not afraid to include important messages in their songs (Like Mamamoo). Their music is really artsy and I don't know what more to say about them because you have to watch them to understand. They also have an amazing rapper in this group (Soyeon). She is really popular in the industry and is known for her unique voice tone and the fact that she makes almost all of their songs. I would recommend: Lion, Oh my god, Tomboy and Nxde. Okay, I'm out! They also had a more of a jazzy sound in the beginning if you're into that, but overall, they just have a lot of genres for everyone. They're also more chaotic than Dreamcatcher if you can believe that. So chaotic that they were dubbed as "Beagle Idols" for always being so crazy and hyper. I enjoy their music but their personality and genuineness is what attracted me the most to them. (Also they are so much better live and they KNOW how to do a live stage)

It's Wendy! I only know Red Velvet a little, and the Seul-rene subunit with Naughty and Monster, but I did see a bunch of funny clips of Wendy. She is the most shippable (basically with anyone in or outside RV), speaks English (was Canadian iirc) and hosted a radio show (Young Street) for a while. I can't find it now (just an unsubbed hour long video on SBS radio) but there is a nice friendship with SuA (who was a guest separately and with DC). Rappers in kpop groups face a sort of hurdle in that rap is a necessary part of almost all kpop songs...but the rapper is perhaps the least regarded position, frequently receiving the least number of lines/singing time/center time. RV, having seen this pattern evolve and be codified by their seniors, resolved to get around it by not having a designated rapper. It's not so much that they ALL rap, but rather that no single one of them. The member who gets the rap lines is the one who makes it sound best for that individual song.

SNSD got around the marginalization of the rapper by having the main dancer (Hyoyeon) take that role; several other groups followed suit. Mamamoo fixed it by having Moonbyul (their main dancer) write her own lyrics and obtain crediting that way. It's a lot better now for rappers in the 4th generation groups, which has examples like I-dle, where the rapper (Soyeon) is the leader, songwriter, choreographer, and overall driving force of the group!
