For any that find this vid via the link in the Short's description that just came out for "Pyō" if you notice at 2:28 the Hiragana telling you how to pronounce the Kanji. Kawakami-san also pronounces it as "Hyō" with the Hiragana looking like this "ひょう" instead of "ぴょう" , that tiny little circle next to the first Hiragana changes it from "Hyō" to "Byō" which when used in a sentence becomes "Pyō". It's become quite common for many to pronounce it as "Pyō" over the years thanks to a lot of media with ninja or using the Kuji-in/Kuji-kiri using that version and that has made people use that version more than the "Hyō" version, this comes from the fact that the Kuji goes "Rin, Hyō, Tō, Sha, Kai, Jin, Retsu, Zai, Zen". When said, it sounds like it's coming in a sentence but it's not so "Hyō" is a standalone, as such it doesn't change to "Byō/Pyō". There's dozens of sites that explain the mechanics of why this happens better than I just did but that's the basics of it.

Kuji-kiri, is not so much about "spells" and casting magic as it is about focusing your intentions to the task at hand in preparation for whatever task or fight may be ahead. You don't always have to do all nine, it can be one or a combination. They also helped focus breathing and relaxation like meditation of sorts to free the mind and spirit. For people to say he is the last actual living ninja, is a bit of an exaggeration as even he has students! There are other schools, teaching the art. Koga and Iga regions were the foundation but during the warring era of Japan, Ninpo was taught in various form and specialties. Today there are teachers who are not in the news or media and they teach very privately. There is also the Bujinkan which does, in fact, teach 9 schools of ninjutsu. You can call them fakes or whatever, but the same can be said of this guy as well. A true practitioner doesn't waste time on trying to discredit one over the other, pretty much goes against all they claim to be about!
@AzraelCaptain3 жыл бұрын
The 9 schools of the Takamatsu-den aren't all exclusively ninja schools. Kukishin-ryu, for example, is composed 9 styles of striking, grappling, sword, spear, naginata, short sword, shuriken and two others, all of which done with the presumption that you're fighting while encumbered in armor. Koto ryu and its sister art Gyokko ryu are chinese schools which are dedicated to disabling an attacker by striking at systemic and structural (bones and nerve/blood vessel clusters, respectively) targets without causing lethal damage. Takagi Yoshin ryu and Shinden Fudo Ryu are for the most part jujutsu. Togakure and Kumogakure are the Ninjutsu part of the curriculum, which are both strategies for infiltration and the usage of the techniques of the other schools within specific stratagems or with specialized weaponry. These fighting arts weren't something every single individual who engaged in some form of spycraft in Japan utilized, and are a very specific curriculum which Takamatsu-sensei inherited by way of his hard work.
@Alnasrlina2 жыл бұрын
Why would you need to do such elaborate gestures for simply "focusing your intentions" for the task at hand? There are many more simple and straightforward techniques to do that. It sounds silly and ridiculous. Magic, sorcery and spells have existed for as long as history in every culture and tribe of the world. There is most likely some knowledge that is deliberately obscured in this case.
@jordanjohnston2453 Жыл бұрын
@@Alnasrlinatrue. The idea of just doing magic to alter reality in your favor being something everyone can just learn to do by googling and copying themselves sounds like an apocalypse scenario.
