If GHGs only can emit photons of a similar wavelength that they absorb, GHGs cannot increase the temperature of the Earth, they can only slow the cooling of the surface. To increase the surface temperature of the Earth, the GHGs would have to change the blackbody spectrum emitted from the surface towards a higher temperature, that is, the emitted photon spectrum of the GHGs would have to be shifted towards considerably shorter wavelengths than what is emitted from the surface.Has that been observed?
