Guimaras is an island province located in Western Visayas, Philippines that boasts of rich resources and beautiful coastlines. The “Guimarasnons” are the proud locals of the thriving group of islands that is known to have one of the best and sweetest mangoes in the world and the freshest seafood that you will ever taste in this lifetime. We took the unfamiliar road during our visit to get to know the people of Guimaras during their normal routine that’s not usually seen by tourists.
Take a serene break with us and watch the video until the end to discover Guimaras in its raw beauty and form.
Special thanks to these people who made this documentary possible:
Councilor Katya Tico Delgado - Jordan, Guimaras LGU

I nominate Erwan for DOT secretary and FEATR as the new tourism department. You're doing more work than the current officials in showcasing our country and culture with zero confidential funds in place. Bravo!

It's so impressive to see how FEATR keeps improving their channel to showcase not only amazing delicacies in the Philippines but to capture the sceneries, let the locals talk about their stories, cultures and traditions for Filipinos to get inspired and be more curious about our own nation as well other than foreigners.

A masterpiece. I've been to guimaras multiple time already but it seems there's a lot i haven't explored after seeing this video. Thank you for featuring the lives of the locals. It made me appreciate how hard working they are and we need to support more of their products. Keep it up. More videos likes this please. Thank you!

6:45 I absolutely love the fact that the sails are accurate. Real paraw-style indigenous crab-claw sails with accurate rigging. They may not be preserved in modern motorized boats, but they can live on in these models.

My mother's clan is Gonzaga from Barrio Magamay, Nueva Valencia.....my second home as a kid growing up in Jaro, Iloilo City where my father is from. I would spend summers there during my childhood and Guimaras was still a sub-province of Iloilo...running barefoot in the rice fields, ride the jeepneys on the roof, getting water from the well down the hillside....no electricity, no running water, roads are dirt, accompanying my grandpa to the beach so he could catch some fish for dinner while I stay on the beach and just play around waiting for him...walking to the next town for their fiesta along with my cousins and uncles and aunts and various other relatives in the middle of the night in absolute darkness using palm leaves as torches....those were the good ol' days.

Not to be a downer, but I despise the "myths" of Princess HALFOFPLACENAME who fell in love with OTHERHALFOFPLACENAMEHERE. And they died and the place they were buried became known as HALFOFPLACENAME + OTHERHALFOFPLACENAMEHERE. It's one of the most common fake "myths" in the Philippines explaining a certain place-name. It's damaging, because it obscures a place's TRUE history. Which in most cases might not be that interesting, but in others are actually far more interesting than some over-used story of folk etymology. Guimaras is the Hispanicized spelling of Himara-os (alternate rendering: Himal-os, Himal-us, Himud-os, etc.), which means to struggle for a living. To survive basically day-by-day. cf. Tagalog "Nakara-os"/"Nakada-os", root word "da-os" ("to finish", "to get through"). THAT to me is a more interesting fact than some fake random princess and a recycled tragedy.

Damn. The sea really makes one pensive. You should've gone to the side of the island that faces Siete Pecados (between Iloilo, currents to Negros), another myth of crossing seas, following your will. Pwede ring mag free diving sa Nueva Valencia.

Guimaras is probably named after an Iberian peninsula place actually under Portuguese rule Guimaraes.
@AngryKittens
@AngryKittens 9 ай бұрын
Not really, no. The old names of places are preserved in Spanish records (and it still annoys me how so few local government units even read these records). Guimaras, even in the 1800s, was still called by its native pre-colonial (non-Hispanized name): "Himalos" or "Himalus", which obviously has nothing to do with Guimarães OR with an imaginary Princess Guima.
@tadrod2323
@tadrod2323 9 ай бұрын
@@AngryKittens until the colonial name Guimaras wqs used since some Portuguese sailors or explorers, soldiers were employed by Spain.
@AngryKittens
@AngryKittens 9 ай бұрын
@@tadrod2323 Again no. Guimarás is the Spanish rendition of the native names, "Himara-os"/"Himad-os"/"Himud-os"/"Himalos". Guimarães' resemblance to the name is coincidental. They are not even pronounced similarly. Guimarães is pronounced "Gee-ma-ra-esh". Its alternate spellings include Guimaráes, Guimaràes, Guimarâes, Guimarais, or Guimarãis, but never "Guimarás". Moreover, other than the brief 60-year Iberian Union from 1580 to 1640 broken by the Portuguese Restoration War, Portugal and Spain were not exactly friends and there's absolutely no reason for the Spanish to name an island after the ancient capital of Portugal.

This type of storytelling is not my cup of tea. I prefer the old format. No tea, but I couldn't finish this video. Felt too close to poverty porn when it's from an outsiders perspective, you don't hear from the locals at all. The subjects are just that. Subjects.
