Hi Rob. Ah, now I remember... Glad you liked my little offerings. A few notes for your information: 07:36 In the UK everyone who has a TV has to pay for a television license each year. The money collected theoretically goes to fund the BBC, the idea being that it will not use selling advertising as a means of funding itself like the commercial channels do. I'm not sure how much the license is these days, but I believe it's quite expensive. Rather than pay for the license in one lump sum, you could get a card, such as the one I sent you from the post office and then attach national insurance stamps. Once the card was full, that would be the cost of the TV license, which is why you were only supposed to put 10p stamps on it. The government was very strict about the TV licenses and there were vans that went round checking to see whether or not there was a TV in the house and making sure that there was a license for that house. If someone had a TV and didn't have a license they would receive a fine. Saying that you never watched the BBC was not considered to be a valid excuse. If you had a TV, you had to pay the license fee regardless of which channels you watched. With the decline in popularity of streaming services such as Netflix and the decline in TV viewing, there have been calls in recent years for the abolition of the TV license, but as far as I know, the UK government is unhappy to abandon a lucrative source of income. 08:03 I believe that what is being spoken about here is contributions to the national savings scheme, which was basically a fund that you paid into in order to get a pension when you retired. As I understand it, everyone is entitled to a (means tested) state pension on retirement, but how big your pension is depends on how much you have paid into the kitty. For example, I have British citizenship which entitles me to go and live in the UK and I could claim a British pension, BUT because I have only spent a total of about 12 months working (and therefore contributing to the National Insurance Fund) I don't have much credit. This means that if I got a British pension I would probably get about £125 a month, which is not enough to live on. A common question when seeking work in the UK is to ask whether the employer "puts the stamp on", which refers to paying into the National Insurance Fund and the reference to the stamp is related to the fact that in the past, the employer would actually buy stamps such as the ones on the card and put them on your employment card. If you found yourself unemployed, then the Department of Social Security, would "put a stamp on" for you. If you were self-employed, then it was your responsibility to pay into the National Insurance Fund yourself. In a way this system is similar (but not quite the same) to the mandatory payment into a superannuation fund that we have in Australia. Basically if you work for someone, your employer has to pay the equivalent of 9.5% of your pre-tax income into a superannuation fund of your choice. 08:53 Coles and Woolworths in Australia are the two largest supermarket chains and they are ubiquitous. K-Mart is a department store that is on the lower range (i.e. cheap). It's also the only place in Port Lincoln where you can buy washi tape (but not the really interesting stuff with mushrooms!). 13:47 The Banknote is from the People's Republic of China and is the lowest denomination banknote of a series that depicted ethnic minorities of China. I think they are rather lovely. They were still being used for ordinary transactions the last time I was in China, and I ended up with a couple of bundles of them. This banknote is 1 Jiao (equivalent to 10 fen or 1/10 of a Yuan; there are 100 fen in a Yuan). At the time I was in China, there were about 5 Yuan to the US$, so that means that the banknote has a face value of about 2 US cents. (Actually less now as I think there are about 6 Yuan to the US$ now.) The current range of Chinese banknotes all have Chairman Mao on the front and various scenes from around China on the reverse.

Another wonderful video with lots of great cards and stamps! As for the "CTO"s" I have some in my collection because I like the subject matter on the stamp. Like you said it is up to the individual what they add in their collection, and it is each person's unique tastes and preferences that make every collection special.

Hi Rob, you showed a lot of interesting items in this video! I liked the German aeroplane and Zeppelin stamps. As usually, Stephen sent you amazingly interesting things. The cinderellas and all their different uses are fascinating. I think to see Stephen's collection(s) must be amazing. The souvenir sheets from Stephen are beautiful.
