Murky Sebs Wild Underwater Adventures Episode 25
Possibly the biggest adventure we've been on so far! This is the first part of a multi day journey to document what creatures are living within the Mary river. In this part 1 we are commencing our adventure up in the mountains at the Mary Rivers beginning as we start to make our way downstream over the next few episodes.

I wonder what happens to the fish in these creeks during the massive flooding along the Australian East coast? When the creeks overflow their banks, and then when the waters subside, do the fish find their way back into the creeks, or are they left stranded on the emerging dry land? Do you see many fish being stranded? There must be some shift in location of the fish due to the floods?
@murkyseb
@murkyseb 2 жыл бұрын
Im sure a lot of them get swept away but there are areas of the creeks where the fish hide and are safe from the floods. A lot of fish end up in different areas because of floods

would you like to measure the temperatures in the water and the water values for us? That would be very interesting. I think the water parameters are very important. ppm pH you are doing a great job. Greetings from Germany
@murkyseb
@murkyseb 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much, sure what water values? And why are they useful
@biblelightbulb
@biblelightbulb 2 жыл бұрын
@@murkyseb they’re asking for water parameters because people overseas are breeding Pacific Blue Eyes, and they want to know what Australian native water conditions and temperatures are. However, given that Pacific Blue Eyes are found all the way from southern New South Wales all the way to northern Queensland, there really is no narrow range of temperatures. However it would be useful to use a testing kit to find out the water parameters that aquarium breeders can replicate the natural water parameters.

@@murkyseb Every time I buy fish, I only get information that is very general. my request relates to all your videos. fish that spawn often do so in calmer waters. I would find the temperature very interesting to know. I'm always interested in things like this. knowledge is for aquarists.

Again, nice video of aquarium fish in the wild! And this is like your "backyard"! :D I know, Australia IS big, so I do not underestimate your travels. I´ve kept some species of Blueeyes and bred most of the ones I had. The Pacific Blueeye was the only one I did not manage to breed. Very high aggression level (one male killed another in a 100 liter tank). I am not saying this aggression is true for all Pacific variants, and I might have made a mistake too - I only got two pairs (keeping them in a bigger group might have spread the aggression). To me, it is one of the most beautiful Blueeyes so I might give them another try. :)

Thank you very much! This river is about 3 hours away from where I live so not too far. Blue eyes are such amazing creatures, you may have more luck keeping them in a bigger tank with lots of hiding places, I know the males can be very territorial but I've only kept them in ponds before

@@murkyseb "...only kept them in ponds before"! You bastard, I am not jealous! :D Gertrudae is another favorite, those worked fine for breeding in a 10 liter tank. Some fighting, but no deaths. I might add that I had continuos automatic water changes in that tank, so no problem with the water quality. No matter what, I will keep these fish again one day. You are right, amazing fish!

If indigenous people had positioned those stone monuments, would you have dismantled them ? Just think about that if you bother to answer.
@murkyseb
@murkyseb Жыл бұрын
This video doesn't feature stone monuments created by indigenous people. It does involve vandalism which is done by either very ignorant or people with no respect for animals and nature which results in countless species losing their homes. I removed the vandalism and If you see someone destroying animals homes in the same way id recommend doing the same and explain to them the impact of what they're doing has on the environment

I want to start by saying that I keep a biotope containing crimson spots, blue eyes, smelt and gudgeons from a spot very close to the bridge at the start of the vid and that I find your work genuinely interesting. I look forward to future instalments. However I wonder if you would apply the same level of criticism to the government employees who introduced the cactoblastis moth as you do for those responsible for the cane toad. I do find it somewhat disingenuous given the hardships of the great depression were fresh in everyone's mind and cane farmers were lobbying hard for a government solution to the cane beetle scourge. Life was much harder and the people who wanted to survive and feed their families far outweighed the visionaries who foretold the risks. It is very easy to judge past actions by today's standards. Of course the cane toad is an unmitigated disaster and needs to be held up as the perfect example of just how bad biological pest control can be, however the editorialising spoils an otherwise worthwhile project in my opinion. I'm sure Joseph Lyon's Prime Ministerial brief didn't include "doing his part to destroy as much native wildlife as possible". It was probably more in line with doing everything possible to save a blossoming cane industry and people's livelihoods. Richard Friday

You're right they definately put a small group of farmers wealth above the lives of millions of native animals. Thank you for your feedback :)
