Thank you Alyssa, for sharing the story of these noble horses and of people connected with them. Personally, I find that the choice to dedicate time and energy to an endangered breed as a "family hobby" and a lifelong project is a clever way to help saving it. I hope more people will find solutions like this and your channel is such an effective way to participating and maintaining an heathy equestrian culture. So I wish you to keep up with this great job for many years to come!

Have had the honour of seeing garranos in the wild in my adopted country of Portugal. So important to protect the heritage of the horses and donkeys that once toiled for humans and now have to find a new place in the world. Lovely video, Alyssa.

What a stunning breed! It seems almost every country has heritage breeds in need of preservation AND dedicated local breeders who are seeing that these traditional horses stay a viable part of the culture. Thank you Alyssa and to Coudelaria Fernando Bezerra!

Oh my gosh, they are stunning and sound like a dream breed! Even some are gaited, that’s so amazing. I don’t think I have heard from them. It es so interesting to also see the traditional saddles and stirrups. I really hope the breed will remain and the numbers will grow. I would love to meet a Garrano horse one day! Thank you Alyssa for taking us all around the world to meet so many great horses, people, countries and history. I really cherish your videos! 😊

I noticed the gait on the one you rode. They remind me of old style Morgans, so of course I love them!

Fascinating. I've never heard of them before. It's amazing how the wild horses around the world have the massive manes and tails and quite often the pony or small horse size. My favorite color is the Bay and this breed has an incredible rich reddish coat. What did you think of about the traditional saddles? Were they comfortable? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Alyssa! Thank you for an amazing and educational year of stories and videos. x

My neighbor has one, they are very surefooted and tough. the weird thing is that if you look to buy one, they are only a few hundred euros😮and people use them as goats, to clear the land...i hope they will get more " prestige" in the future! 💚🙏🐴

Are they living in this narrow box without window? The mare looked disturbed.

Had never heard of them. Beautiful. The gait was unusual. Seemed the front legs were going outward, not straightly up and out. Is that typical of the breed? Are the mechanics hard on the horse or is it just how they are built to move?

Since they have connection to Brittish breeds, if understood correct. Could they then also have relations from Nordic true viking era export?, then I refer to the Norwegian breed Lyngs/Nordlandshest. I find them a bit similar. The Lyngs was later mixed with imported brittish ponies to origin the Icelandic horse? The Lyngshest can in some individes have the same 5 gate as a Icelandic. I been told the Lyngshest has genetics from Mongolian horses. I know there was a rescue to bring them back in the 1920/30`s with a Finnish horsebreed. I`m just ask questions to more educated people, it was a theory from mine mind of what I`ve been told.. no facts claimed
@picobello99Күн бұрын
They might be related, but not closely I think. The Garrano is related to the Exmoor pony and several other pony breeds from the British Isles as well as the Gotland pony from Sweden and the Bardigiano from Italy. And off course the pony breeds from northern Spain.

HORRIFYING seeing these ponies in narrow stalls with a FULL door they can't even look out. OMG.
@joannesmartens94429 күн бұрын
2000 instead of 40.000 is a lot of diference, but endangered??? How many horses they have on that farm? Preserve a horsebreed is'nt so easy, but i think you need more horses to help to preserve. But their saddles are special, more looking like westernstyle. Even in the same breed every horse is diferent.😊
