As my son has said, Wisconsin “is a killer state! It has everything!” They live in Madison now. I sold my little house there when i retired and still live 20 mins away. I lived quietly, but if you want something to do, there is always something different to do, tour the fabulous Capitol, UW Campus, zoo, parks, experience the wild life ( Be sure to stop and let the ducks, or turkeys, cross the street), wonderful food, music, theater here and near by, nature, lots of green space, parks, lots of lakes in and around Madison, hills and lakes, both small and Great, cheese to sample, wineries and breweries, and so many places to visit. I love this place. It is home.

Brittingham Boats is at the location that was a Madison Parks beach. I was the lifeguard that ended the day there in 1965. On the east side, I started at another decommissioned beach near the Lizard Effigy Mound (Hudson beach, now park). Other beaches that are gone are Willows where I spent my youth and the one on Picnic Point where many high school memories were made. Nevertheless, each trip home requires a visit to all 4 sites.

@Tadashi Okazaki First, much cleaner. As much as people in Austin love to tout how environmentally conscious they are, trash is everywhere. Madison is much smaller and still retains the "feel" Austin claims it still has. Austin is home to one million people but bills itself as a city that has a small town feel. It doesn't. Like, at all. You know you're living in a cramped city. Austin is way over priced. Madison has a reasonable cost of living. Madison is much more accessible. One can enjoy both of the lake shores in Madison, Mendota and Menona, but good luck enjoying nature in Austin unless you're prepared to drive quite a bit then hike quite a bit, then elbow through the crowds at the Green Belts. Just trust me, Madison is a gem. Austin is pure hype and nothing else. So happy I'm leaving this dump next spring.

@Tadashi Okazaki Austin is a dump, ok? If you think Madison has too many Hispanics, Austin has Madtown beat by a mile. Roughly half the city is Hispanics. The Northside, specifically Rundberg, and old east Austin are barrios. Shootings, theft, and prostitution are prevalent. Madison is a great city and you should feel blessed to live there. I have spent plenty of time in both cities and would choose Madison over "ATX" in a heartbeat if pressed or forced to choose. I never found Madison "boring" at all. It definitely has a slower pace than Austin, but that is a positive contrast rather than a negative. Like I said, I can't wait to get out of this over-priced dump

@Tadashi Okazaki yeah, Collin County in general has a good deal of "Desi"(South Indian) and Chinese/Tawainese people. Koreans and Vietnamese as well. Frisco is just rich people in general, regardless of ethnicity or race. It's just one of those suburbs where people have a highly, and undeserved, sense of self-worth. If I were to move back to DFW, I would live in Richardson. Housing is reasonable, pretty damn good restaurants, everything you need etc. North Dallas off Preston Road is pretty cool.

There are more Asian people than black people. Black people make up 7% of the population; it's nearly 80% white. Definitely not Miami. Wisconsin in general only has 6.5% black people, less than half the national average. Madison probably suffers from similar issues, but Milwaukee is known to be one of the most segregated cities in the US, so if a video were filmed in certain areas of the city, Black people would not be in it. :( Madison is known to be one of the most progressive cities in the Midwest, but we definitely have work to do.

The inanity of hoping to (or at least pretending to) further "diversify" your city is beyond comprehension. Why in the world would you wish to import the troubles of the inner city? I have many fond memories of Madison and love Wisconsin but truthfully Columbus, Ohio blows Madison away. I've lived in Ohio for the last decade and hate to admit this. With all that Columbus has to offer I can see why Columbus is exploding with growth with a population looking to go over the million mark in the city alone that's four times the population of Madison and with the announcement of a new billion dollar project in the downtown.

rockyzman Madison will never grow that big. It's population is fairly capped because no high rise skyscrapers are allowed-nothing past the height of the Capitol. Plus it's on an isthmus so land mass is just not there. Most people who live here like that it's not a big city.
