1:30 Argentina, like many countries, has a homeless population, but it's not accurate to say that half of the people in Argentina sleep on the street. According to estimates, the homeless population in Argentina is around 7-8 per 10,000 inhabitants, which is relatively low compared to some other countries. It's important to rely on reliable sources and data when discussing such issues.

Ok, Argentina is having problems but to say : "Half of the population is below the poverty line and LIVES on the streets" that is so wrong and misleading information. I am not argentinian but I know the Human development statistics and Argentina is the best in Latin America, in education, art, universities, sports, is the actual futbol world champion, the production of wonderful movies in the continent comes from Argentina. Argentina ranks worldwide so high in basketball, rugby, volleyball etc. So be careful with your data, please. Greetings from Guatemala 🇦🇷🇬🇹😎✌️

I understand Argentina has a lot of positive sides to it, but Coldplay playing in a stadium does not mean Argentinian economy is doing well. There are always exceptions or exclusionary bubbles where people are purposely shielded from reality.

I was there a couple of weeks ago. Only in Buenos Aires. One of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. It gave me major Madrid vibes with random Parisian and Italian architecture here and there. One sad thing was the economy. I was completely unaware of how bad the situation was. I hadn't done my research well. It was almost impossible to find cash. All the ATMs would either decline my foreign bankcard, or they would not have enough cash. And whatever amount you withdraw, you pay so much commission. But apart from that, it was a beautiful and lively city, with incredibly friendly people.

How much dollars are allowed for you, to take with you for this traveling? Is it possible to pay with dollars?
@nowayjose34
@nowayjose34 6 ай бұрын
@@simusocat I didn't bring any cash with me. I was originally visiting Brazil, and Argentina was a spontaneous addition. So I don't know about that. But the ATMs were only giving 10-20 euros (in pesos) and ONLY if they had it. If I tried 30-40 euros, it would say the amount is too high. I was lucky ONCE that I could get 30 euros (in Argentinian pesos). Don't forget that you pay around 9-10 euros in commission for each of these withdrawals. Some places did accept dollars, and some taxi drivers at the airport also offered a ride to the city center for 20 USD. Uber was around 15 euros, so slightly cheaper and they mostly accept dollars, as well. But keep in mind that Uber also only accepts cash, which was the biggest ordeal for me. I think it is much safer to have pesos with you just in case.
@nowayjose34
@nowayjose34 6 ай бұрын
But do bring dollars with you, because there are exchange offices where you can convert your dollars to pesos. If you offer to pay everything in dollars, I think the prices given to you might be higher than what you would pay in pesos. These exchange offices don't accept cards. So having dollars in cash might help you avoid ATMs.

I was born and raised in Argentina, now an American citizen. Argentinians are some of the friendliest people on earth: You can make lots of friends if you like it. They'll invite you to their homes and treat you like a prince or princess. You do not need a green card or anything like it to stay in Argentina and, say, teach English. But as soon as you want to rent an apartment your nightmare will begin: Two months of deposit plus one warrantor who owns a property. Course, you can ask and get a fake warrantor to back you, this for a reasonable bribe. So, before you go check this book: "Bad Times in Buenos Aires," by Miranda France : It will open your eyes to the realities of Argentina.

I was there 8 years ago for two weeks and I had a mixed experience. I studied Spanish in Madrid and Miami for many years at the university level so the language and the culture were not the problem. In Buenos Aires some people can be very rude, this is not Colombia or Mexico where they are super friendly toward the tourists, I certainly would not live there. There is some level of professionalism that you may not see as often in other parts of Latin America. What works for some people may not work for me.

Milei took office 6 months ago, so it is too early to pass judgment, but so far the results are not impressive. He promised to abolish Argentina's Central Bank and replace the Argentine peso with the US dollar. He wants to sell public utilities, railways, the state airline and post office to foreign entities... these are not popular opinions likely to gain congressional support. Those were unrealistic promises and few people are talking about that anymore. The Argentine economy is shrinking and its health is largely dependent on exports from the agricultural sector. It is hard to see how this sector is going to grow enough to make a big difference. Government spending has been cut sharply and the federal deficit is likewise being reduced, but that is about the extent of positive news. Unfortunately, about half of the Argentine population is now living at poverty levels. The vote for Milei was a protest vote...people understood that drastic changes in government policies were necessary, but Milei's prescription for an economic rebound is unlikely to work. The populace probably lacks the confidence and patience to wait years for positive results.

@binkysteaver9880

If you wanted to live like a local on 500.00 you could do it but remember that the locals on that budget will live with family or friends, rent a cheap small room with a shared bathroom (probably in a less safe or desirable area) eat what is called the “menu” at a small local restaurant or (family home)which can be quite good but very basic. You won’t be traveling much or eating steak with wine or western cuisine, you would be relatively poor with very limited entertainment options, for a westerner you should plan on a budget of at least 1500.00 to 2000.00 a month to live a comfortable life.

@@proverbs3133 I’m a non white person and I have felt unwelcome in Argentina. It doesn’t matter how good you are as a person, how honest, how well mannered or educated, if you’re a non white person, you’re AUTOMATICALLY bad.. I excused myself to a woman, and was handing over something she dropped while sitting on a bar stool, and she gave me that nasty look like I was trying to hit on her. I calmly handed over her loose change bag full of coins (that’s what it looked like) and left. But she had no issues talking to or getting hit on by white men. I wasn’t even hitting on her and got “that look”. This was only one incident. There were many others like this one, involving not only women but men and people in general of all ages. This has led me to think that in general, Argentinians tend to be racist - some times subtle sometimes brazen.
