Discovery 2. Fender, Bumper and Slider Chop. Land Rover 35+ Tire Upgrade Long Travel Land Rover

How not to cut and modify your bumpers to clear big tires on your Land Rover Discovery 2. Its a work in progress as we slowly increase the tire size the D2. RTE Fab suspension lift with extra travel shocks demanded larger diameter tires. Sourced some used 35 wranglers and with those mounted we realized we had to remove a ton more fender to clear the bigger tires.

How did you guys go about fitting the flares?

Welded some thin metal to close the gap. Flan on adding some beefier flares back in their place. Have a follow video but haven’t had a chance to edit it yet. Thanks for the question.

What about the inner liners?

Good question. Ok. So I have added sheet metal for the inner door lips for the rear doors. The. Will panel bond to seal that up and add weatherstripping since all of that was removed. For the fronts. I and going to do something similar and fab up some removable ones for the engine bay. I have a video almost ready that will show the current progress. Finished product will look pretty clean and allow for tons of clearance. Thanks for the question.

How many inches of lift to fit them?

current set up. Running the RTE-Fab full 4inch suspension lift currently. Real world closer to 5 inches. Still making changes here and there with a goal to increase wheel travel and eventually run 37-38 tires with beadlocks. However, they did rub pretty hard before I started cutting away the fenders. I wouldn't have gotten so aggressive with the cutting if I were just going to stay with the 35's. Hope that answers your ?. Thanks for the comment.

​@@Wheel2LiveOffRoad how do you like the Flex from the RTE 4in? I'm debating between the RTE or the Terra firma 4in. I do almost exclusively lots of Southern AZ rough trails so flex us pretty important. Right now I'm on OME 2in with TC and CDL. Sway bar deletes and wanna go Detroit locker rear and meantain TC in front

@@ronaldrrootiii6040 flex is crazy with the rte. my brother had the terrafirma 4 inch with +2 inch shocks and on one really crazy cross axled obstacle he unseated his rear spring. I had to retain bottom and top with the rte or the spring would fall out without much effort at all. If you go RTE get dislocation cones in order to gain a few extra inches of drop. Good plan to delete sway bars and a Detroit is as bulletproof as they come. The flex is nuts with the rte I just need to do a little more adjusting.

@@Wheel2LiveOffRoad oh one more question! Do you think it's a must to get some HD axle shafts with 35s and a Detroit Locker? I mean I go pretty gentle on purpose even on pretty wicked climbs or would you say HD shafts are must regardless driving style at that point?
