Mike, I'm astonished and overwhelmed by your patience. Your persistence to overcome the daliances by the Landrover "designers" is overwhelming. I could use other rude words.....but. Thanks Mike🇻🇨

Ahhh! Watching with interest for any gems of knowledge. Just stripped down my P38 4.6 chasing a miss on no. 6 cylinder. Found it, exhaust cam lobe gone after 170,000 km. Had top hat sleeves put in and a total engine rebuild. Grrrr! Going to be off the road for a bit……

Done a few cam changes in the past - no need to take the engine out, and an opportunity to change the chain too shop.v8engines.com/camshaft-73-c.asp Not the cheapest, but probably one of the better companies to deal with

Correction, 17,000 km

There is fine metal filing in the sump and the engine rebuilder wants the engine back to put it right for me. Serious malfunction after 17,000km.

I've been working on my Rover P6B that has been in the garage for 15 years. Have to get it back on the road as our London UK ULEZ scheme (Ultra Low Emission Zone) scam in August will cost me £12.50 every time I leave my driveway in my 2015 Defender. My 1968 Rover, being 55 years old is classed as a historic vehicle so doesn't have to pay. On the Rover V8, with your expertise, you could probably change the valley gasket in 30 minutes or so. No need to worry about all those coil packs and injection shit, just a couple of HS6 SU's to remove. But I suppose that's progress!!!!!!!

Yeap - dead easy! Secondary air injection, A/C mounting bracket etc all adds more time to the job - especially if you cannot get the fan off, and the SAI nuts will not come off!

I always take the engine mounts off, then the engine tilts forward which allow you to access coil packs, back of engine better, they can be very frustrating compared to the earlier V8s that's fir sure...... love emission control!

My sister gave me a 2000 disco 2. Had 1 owner. I got it home almost 3 years ago. I drove it for a bit. Notice a burning antifreeze smell. I couldn't find it. Then drove it hard. Finally i found the leak. Head gaskets time. So i bought all the parts. Updated gasket set. New bolts. Fresh plugs. Fresh wires set. New water pump and thermostat. New hoses. I bought all i needed a little bit at a time. Bought a repair manual. Fresh antifreeze too. Oil and filter. Air filter. All new vacuum hoses. Then i did everything to replace head gaskets. I was age 66 at the time. It was an easy task. I just took my time and cleaned everything. Now. She runs good. No more head gasket leaks.

Yep! I agree, careful and methodical if working on a Thor motor. There is not much room if LPG is installed and you have big fat hand like me.

LR took an engine from the early 60's and just started bolting on stuff - more and more year after year until they reached this monstrosity - word to the wise - since you are in CA and have the diesel engines - stay away from these V8 disco's - it is no wonder no one wants to touch these anymore - even a LR dealership will say - we don't have anyone that works on these anymore and we can't get parts so go find an independent - and most of them don't know what they are doing

There were no diesels imported into Canada until the last few years. These V8 engines were OK in the 3.5 form, but as bodies became heavier, and performance required to keep up with US made vehicles, plus emission requirements becoming more stringent, they reached the end of the road - so to speak!
