I only play with all expansions at advanced now, more strategy options and ways to win really enhance my enjoyment of the game. The home worlds and discover tokens are fantastic. Thank you for producing these great expansions, all of them build new thematic layers to the Dune universe.

Smuggler Troops Token: Get 3 Smuggler Troop Permanetly, either to reserve or on reveal location, can be revive and are part of your troop to end, strength 1 in battle, none payment need in battle.

Nitpick question: What happens if BG moves/ships advisors in a territory containing an unflipped discovery token as well as some other faction? Do they too get to look at the discovery token (I assume they don't get to flip it)? Also this variant is pretty hype. They definitely add some much needed love to the non-stronghold territories and allow for some nice low-stakes battles to occur. I think it may also help factions who are behind (or have a slow start), as other players will be focused on acquiring strongholds that the behind players are unable to contest.

We will use them in all of our games for sure! Btw a vote all the time when Nexus happens would be really handy with double spice blows (if someone don't use the fanmade double spice blow cards what you have recommended). Because with the og double spice blow rule, there will be many Nexus... Nexuses... Wormsign...

I really think these tokens in conjunction with homeworlds removes the static play style of watch and wait because now players who start off world are not necessarily safe and there is more reason to be down on Planet. I really think this expansion’s variants are changing the game by taking less active factions and making everyone engage more resulting in more conflict per game.

Already love this variant for how alive the whole map should feel with all these Discovery tokens! Will most likely either include it in the deck or even start with all or some of them in play in most of my games. In the video you mentioned Gara Kulon, Meridian and Plastic Basin, what are the other 3 territories that may contain one of the tokens? Also I'm guessing the sectors that these tokens are put in are the ones shown on the cards, right? Now really looking forward to hearing more about Homeworlds variant cause it feels like the crown jewel of this amazing expansion!

They are: Pasty Mesa, False Wall West, and Cielago East. Card shows just where to place the token. I may end up making a few more for my custom set, to play around with more of the map!

@@jackredathewarp Thanks for answering! If you don't mind sharing, what other territories did you consider to have one of these tokens? I guess the idea of not having Hiereg tokens inside Fremen's shipment area is to make sure they don't get another Stronghold in there. Was it something that you played with in development and deemed too much of a buff for the Fremen?

@@agodface it was primarily driven by picking desert areas that don’t get any action and occupancy. If I do fan made extras, that will still be the driver.

I'm gonna be a strong advocate for including discovery tokens in all of my games. Here's a question since I know someone is going to ask it: If the bg occupy the shrine, can they use a worthless card as a truthtrance?

How does the ornithopter token interact with the hajr card? If the ornithopter effect for 1 movement or for the whole phase?

Nope. Maybe there should be since they are pretty small. Jacarutu is a stronghold, so it still does.

Are the tokens affected by the storm? Cant find anything about it in the newly published rulebook. I am guessing no, but would have been nice if it had been spelled out.

@@jackredathewarpwell it says ”Forces in these locations are immune to the effects of the storm or sandworms”, but on page 12 it says ”Five of the Discovery tokens are locations, and remain in place when revealed.” Which could be interpreted that unrevealed tokens are susceptible to storm. I predict I will not be the last to ask.

Adore every one of these changes coming, and I totally agreed on added complexity being low. People are far more willing to have a new thing come up than having a new thing they need to consider from the get-go. 7 spice is a lot to find stashed away!! Does the player need to reveal it, then remain there the following turn to collect? Thinking out loud here: it will be interesting to figure out how to add these new spice cards in the game. Avalon Hill's philosophy seemed to allow, however unlikely, a no-worm, 15-turn game. Spice deck w/double blow, worms are guaranteed in a mere 8-turn game. This seems to be a departure of the original design philosophy that imo leaned too Nexus phase-heavy (trout does wonders for that small gripe). With 6 more spice cards, it will effectively return the game to the same philosophy of potential spice blow results, adjusted for turn limit change. However, with the great maker and the Fremen peaking to the desert discovery tokens (and the likelihood that 2 worms will be drawn in succession increasing), the added benefit to the changes throughout the edition help the Fremen in a flavorful way. Also, stacking seems interesting as it additionally lowers the odds of a turn 2/3 Nexus phase. Atm, I'm leaning to starting the game with all discovery tokens (and great maker) shuffled additionally to the deck (no stacking), but starting the game with the fourth of each type already on the map (respective factions being able to see them before unit placement). Also considering deck stacking and/or giving Fremen/Spacing Guild the pick of which token starts out in the game.

I don’t necessarily recommend using everything unless you feel comfortable with so many moving parts. All of the variants are modular.

@@jackredathewarp so what is the recommended Loadout for high and low skill levels than? I know you recommend using all the expansion treachery cards. And I think the Tech tokens are pretty good additions. The box is getting pretty full LOL

@@doomtraininc8009 I would experiment with one variant at a time. Folks should have a high comfort level with the game before adding multiple. That said, tech tokens, nexus cards, and discovery tokens are all pretty accessible, and I will be using them all most of the time.
