The second trip I went on - this time out of Monterey from Fisherman's Wharf with Discovery Whale Watch! I also went on a trip with this company last year.
Humpbacks in the bay again as they return from their winter breeding/calving grounds to eat as many fish and krill as they can for the summer. A sign of large amounts of food available for the whales is the volume of birds which you can see how many were hanging around the area in this video. There were also a few harbor porpoises around but they're incredibly difficult to get photos or video of.
I also participate in the happy whale citizen science program so I've included a couple of the fluke shots and their IDs in the end of the video this time. Sometimes these whales are named but in this case none of the individuals I came across were. I'll do videos on these whales in the future since its fun to be able to track the history of each whale!
