I believe the F87 M2 will be a future classic. Especially the Competition model because it has a low production number and because it has the s55 so it’s pretty special. It looks amazing . The size is perfect . I mean the car is pretty damn perfect . Even the interior is nice and simple. The G87 on the other hand is noticeably bigger ( about 4 inches in length and 1 inch in width compared to the f87) which will take a part of the feeling of nimbleness away. It s also uglier than the F87 . The Zf is worse than the DCT. I mean the only pro this car has imo is the s58 because it might be a pretty damn reliable engine ( we have to wait and see though, heard there has already been a rod bearing recall for the s58 s ) but the s55 is good enough and tbh you don’t need more than 500hp on a small car like the M2 so the s58 tuneability doesn’t really matter in this case. Just my opinion and damn I just realized how long this comment is lmao

New M2 will get same engine thats in G80/G82 but slightly detuned. I haven't seen new M240i in person but that long bonnet looks strange to me (along with the lights both front & rear). I want a smaller, lighter car. Not something heavier & bigger w/ more HP. Car should weigh no more than 3500lbs. BMW needs to use more CF panels as standard (the cost of CF is dropping). I'd be interested to know if they'll include adaptive suspension. If not I'll probably keep my F87 Comp (it looks curvier & has those beautiful proportions along w/ aggressive front facia). Not as squared off & boxy looking as the new M2 renders. The interior would be nice with carbon buckets & an that optional CF roof sounds great (a CF bonnet/hood would also be cool option), but those lights in front & rear are strange. I really wanted an M2CS but couldn't find one... Now they're selling for $115k

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Fingers-crossed you could test the G42 M240i and the G87 M2 Competition! Couldn‘t agree more with your thoughts about the design of the G42 and F87 M2/M2 Competition. A few days ago I saw the commercial, which made me „fall in love“ with the 2-series. „The Drift Mob“, filmed in South Africa, with the M235i. I compared this and other TV spots with the actual Commercial of the G42 M240i, there wasn‘t the same feeling..But I think nowadays it is „brave“ that BMW gives us a „small“ car with a inline 6 and rear-wheel drive. Let‘s see what the future will bring. All the best to the Simply Car Things-Family!🍀🙏🏽🙂

This M2 will be amazing. Pretty sure will be categorized as the best ///M yet. Or maybe the most overpowered ///M. They can’t give the M2 every option the M3/M4 get. It will destroy their sales. The carbon bucket seats will probably be available on a future Competition/CS edition. I’m surprised this one will have a carbon roof from the get go.
@freedbeefpontoons3 жыл бұрын
All the specs sound really good. It's interesting, BMW seems to be positioning this car as almost an M2.5. It'll likely be priced closer to the M3/M4 than previous generations and I think it'll move upmarket if it's getting things like a standard CF roof. When the M2 started out, it was a full step down from the M3/M4, but once the M2 Competition came out and kind of set the precedent for having an "S" engine in the chassis the car almost became a "short wheelbase M3/M4" more than that full step down like it used to be. I think with stuff like the no carbon buckets for the G87 or the lack of colors/no HUD with the F87, its really BMW trying to almost inject value into the bigger, more expensive cars. Because if BMW honestly gave the M2 a non-detuned S58 and some more options, nobody would buy an M4, because why would you (Unless you need AWD i guess.) The interesting thing will be to see how close the G87 gets to the G80/82/83 on price this time around. When the M2 came out in 2016, just five years ago it was a $50K and change car. I'm guessing it's going to be closer to $70K now. Also, side note, I really feel you on those F87 colors. I have a Hockenheim silver M2C and man...don't get me wrong it's a very pretty color, but when you're paying that much for a car, it would be nice to have more than 5 options. And yeah, basically every time I see another one, it looks like my twin.

I don't even understand how people can compare G87 and F87. F87 is built on the basis of a small family car with too many compromises none of us wants. G87 is a dedicated sports car platform. Lousy Zupra is based on this platform. This M2 will be something enthusiasts were waiting for a long time. It's a pity that it's a bit too late and just before eletification comes to wipe IC cars from the elite, but for real enthusiasts as long as there are gas stations around it should not be a problem. For those in doubt just look what is the driving position in G87 - the seats are placed in the car where the driver is sitting almost on a rear axle, which is a great balance. It's a real sports car, finally!

The bmw community for the most part needs to learn to accept change. Some of the most groundbreaking inventions or events where controversial. I have a BMW G82 X Drivre in Portimao frozen blue and I have been stopped by so many people in the va last few weeks that have told how amazing it looks. Mostly these people are probably not bmw Fanboys and had no expectations on the car and what it “should” have looked like according to “them”. I’ve had all the M3/M4 cars back to the E36 and that kidney grille was getting stale quite honestly. Also to answer the question what would the appeal be for the M4/M3 against the M2? Obviously as far as the M3 goes that questions answers itself just because it’s four doors. Secondly as I’m over 35yrs old an M2 seems just a little to “ricer” looking and unrefined, it doesn’t have the same road presence and as you said it’s stubby looking. Not taking away from its capabilities but If you’re in you’re late thirties you probably aren’t going to be to interested in this model. P.S i don’t where know this pig snout sh*t started but obviously this is a major exaggeration.

I think it'll be somewhere in between. A lot of people will prefer the f87 but it won't be as ugly as the new M3 and m4s. It will definitely feel more synthetic. If it doesn't come with wider fenders front and rear, it's a non-starter for me. If yes, this is really the real M3/4. The G87 proportions are just right as I found the F87 a bit short bus with a blocky/flat rear end. The size is right to get a manual trans, although the BMW shift action leaves a lot to be desired compared to Porsche/Honda.
@freedbeefpontoons3 жыл бұрын
Hard to tell with the camo, but if you look closely you can see that the G87 will be wider than the M240i version. It's easiest to tell around the front fenders, since the rears are already really flared on the non-M version. But if you look closely at the M2 under the camo at the front fenders you can see how much wider they are.
