This class discusses the Book of Amos, a prophet who was sent by God to deliver a message of judgment to the prosperous but prideful nation of Israel. Amos, a shepherd by trade, is portrayed as a direct and confrontational figure who calls out the sins and hypocrisy of the Israelites, including their oppression of the poor, their empty religious practices, and their reliance on military strength. It explores the historical context of Israel's success and the natural tendency towards pride that arose, as well as God's efforts to discipline and call the people back to repentance through various calamities.
