Wow. Usually people leverage their incompetence to keep you tied up on the simplest concepts for two hours without ever getting thru to them (even though you get thru to US, the viewers). This discussion illustrates what would happen if they’d just listen and let you cook. Absolutely inspiring.. I need to study the scriptures more

It seems the parable of the good Samaritan well showes that people can accept Christ without even knowing Christ, merely by becoming "mercy" and/or "charity", and basically knowing God in that manner because God himself is love. So it seems that literally people will receive the amounf of mercy they bring forth, as stated in James 2:13, even independent from them getting the Bible right, knowing about God, or believing they have been saved. I find that fascinating to understand because that proves that all those who love, know God, and those who know God, obtain life eternal, and with that everything else will fall into its proper place. So no, it doesnt need the perfect dogmatic understanding, not even perfect faith or works.. and so God, it seems, literally cares about our intents, about the different circumstances we are placed in and so forth.

One of the most incredible aspects of God's and Christ's promise to save the world is their certainty in fulfilling that promise. Christ has already paved the way for all of us to be saved, and ultimately, each of us will receive some measure of glory. Like a loving Father who desires the best for His children, God will guide us to where we can find the most happiness-but He won’t force us. Regardless of whether or not you believe in God, Christ's Atonement will still grant you some level of glory, light, and happiness. If you believe in God and Christ but struggle to follow them, they will still extend salvation to you, offering even more light because you have chosen to accept it. And if you believe, follow, and stay on the covenant path, Christ will help you grow, filling you with limitless light and truth, becoming like Them. I love that as Latter-day Saints, we aren't motivated by fear of "hell," but instead are progressing toward the goal of becoming more like our Heavenly Father and His Son. It’s unfortunate that some see this as blasphemous, as it’s one of the beautiful doctrines that has been lost to many over time. It’s also unfortunate that some Latter-day Saints feel undue stress, worrying they aren't "good enough"-not realizing that none of us are perfect, and that's okay. The key is to stay on the covenant path and keep growing. Cameron posed some excellent questions, and as always, Travis provided insightful explanations.

Two plus two is a bad example to portray opinion, because if you ask a mathmatician, he will tell you that two plus two is not always four. So, both can be and is truth depending on its conetext.

Super great discussion, but I believe there was a small window of clarity missed when Cameron thought it sounded ridiculous that only Latter-day Saints are those on “the straight and narrow path” leading to eternal life in its fullest. We believe that EVERYONE will be given the clear chance to receive the ordinances and covenants offered for this path, whether in this life or the next. Jacob Hansen from Thoughtful Faith said it well: “God will take us as far as we are willing to let Him.” Those who didn’t know that God could take them higher than just out of hell will be taught so and be given the invitation and opportunity to participate. It’s a chance given to everyone who has ever or will ever live on this earth, an idea that does not exist outside of our theology. I believe that misunderstanding comes from the mainstream Christian narrative that if you don’t accept Christ in this life you’re going to hell, which I think any other religion and even Atheism would also turn back to and say the same thing: “Doesn’t that sound ridiculous?”

If someone was born in Ethiopia and lived their entire life without learning about Christ, was the very purpose of their creation specific to their eternal damnation? Is that a merciful and all knowing God?
@truthbebold40092 ай бұрын
I'm not LDS but I don't believe in eternal damnation. That doesn't fit with a loving God. That doesn't fit the Bible either.
@SimonDaumMusic29 күн бұрын
Even in the Bible it teaches that those who obey the law naturally will be judged according to that. In addition Jesus gave the parable of the good Samaritan. The Jews actually considered the Samaritans to be pagans, worshipping God in false ways, getting the scriptures wrong etc. And yet Jesus considered him good, not because of is faith, works or correct doctrinal understanding, but merely because of him bringing forth mercy from a pure heart. James 2:13 lays out that what will triumph over Gods judgement basically is how much mercy we show towards others. If we take this further that means that if someone has faith to move mountains, brings forth good works, knows all of Gods mysteries, sacrifices his own life, even heals the sick, but shows no mercy and charity towards others, all these things are of no value before God. In the Parable, the good Samaritan, didnt seem to have any of these "typical Christian" things, he only had mercy, and it seems that was sufficient for Jesus to consider him "good".. In combination with LDS theology there is a perfect way prepared for all to come unto Christ, whether in this or in the next life. Everything else would prove God being a partial God.

1:55:00 I was under the impression that "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" and "The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles" were official, canonized scripture?
@TheYgds2 ай бұрын
Nope. They've never been presented for canonization, though they are good syntheses of the doctrine. In my opinion, some of the language may need tightening up and further elaboration to become canonized and hold against interrogation. Technically, only revelation or texts with a revelatory component are traditionally canonized. While the facts of the declarations are true and revelation may have played a part in spurring their composition, the documents themselves are not revelations as far as we know. I think all of the recent declarations have references to other scriptures as appeals for where the doctrine comes from, unlike the rest of scripture which speaks on its own without appeal to other scriptures for authority, though they may quote prior scripture.
@ColtonJPrice2 ай бұрын
They’re not canonized by the Church, but many Latter-day Saints, including myself, consider them to be scripture.
@Hol0gr4m2 ай бұрын
If it isn't canonized scripture, it is pretty darn close. If the qualification for scripture is that it is taught unanimously by all presently living Apostles and Prophets, I believe the Family Proclamation had all 15 signatures written under it by all of the brethren living when it was written.
