House can never exist in today's society or any society for that matter. His disregard for privacy, lack of compassion and his condescending demeanor are all traits that no one wants in a doctor or a boss. His desire for the answer to the puzzle always outweighs his desire to help the patient. Curing the patient just so happens to be a happy bonus if he solves the case. He breaks the first rule of medicine all the time, "Do no harm" in his quest for answers. I'm sure there are a lot of smart doctors out there, maybe even a doctor as smart as House, but their hands would always be tied and would never be able to make a proper diagnose without getting sued constantly. That what makes House MD a work of fiction set in a world of pure fantasy.

The purpose of his statement was to let them know they were in no way at fault because they did not know. Her mother and their father essentially lied to them. Sadly this happens a lot, some couples if they are adopted or if one of their parents abandoned them as a young child then it is possible for the half siblings or full blood siblings to end up together. I remember reading a news article about a couple who were actually twins, they both thought that they had the same birthday but because they did not look identical and because they were both adopted to two separate households, it was hard to tell if they were related, the only way to tell if they were twins was by DNA and of course hair/eye colour. They both were already married and had children before they found out and it destroyed their marriage and families, their kids were teenagers so their kids ended up resenting the couple even though it was not their fault. This is why it is so important to tell your children who their parents are and if they get adopted then they should be adopted together. I feel so bad for any couple out there who experienced this, it's horrible. The couple from the news article, they did not face any charges because they had no idea they were related, they did however got divorced and went their separate ways. The parents take it in turns to look after the children, the children live with the mother and the father lives on his own.

They fell deeply in love and became engaged. I can't remember how or why but somehow they discovered they were Full Biologically brother and sister. Both were crushed and devastated and immediately went into therapy. They decided to stay together as a couple and according to article they were researching which states accepted these kind of marriages so they could relocate. I could not believe the article showing a picture of them in a romantic kiss. They looked like twins. I'll never forget that article. It has haunted me ever since..I can't imagine.....

In 2002 there was a case like this when a couple (of 6 years) were injured in a car crash (bad) and they found out they both had the same father. They met in High school and went to college together both studying theoretical Math. The older genetic father was a Science professor (moms attended that college). The other "fathers" were quite surprised ( i would guess the Moms not as much). The comment from the couple was " we just clicked like we had known each other for years, loved the same things and always found it just easy to be together".

I was once told about a case where siblings with the same father married each other. The thing was that the father and the mom divorced and goes on their separated ways with the mom unknowingly pregnant at the time. The father remarried but never knew he had a son with the former wife and she also kept it hidden. Sadly enough both mom and father died even before their kids fully grown and never been introduced to each other. The case got worst that after they're married the moved to overseas due to the husband's work for almost 4 years. Cliche as it maybe, the only reason the couple had figured out due to the Son's grandmother recognized the father's photo kept by her granddaughter-in-law during a family gathering when they both return back to the country. The news was shocking not to mention the couple already had two kids at the time.

A former friend and colleague of mine about fifteen years ago inadvertently discovered that she and her husband were half siblings. They already had a baby daughter at the time. They had her tested and fortunately she didn't have any health conditions to worry about. Apparently the husband and wife were both adopted and both tracked down their birth mothers only to find it was the same person. I only found out after she quit her job. She had written an email to a few of us who she had been close to, explaining the whole bizarre story and why we probably wouldn't see or hear from her again. She said their marriage had begun to suffer after their discovery so they had decided to move away, wanting a fresh start, but I heard on the grapevine that they were divorced several months later. I've seen her around once or twice since then but it seemed like she was trying to avoid me, so I didn't approach her. I have thought about their family often, though. The daughter especially. She'd be in high school by now. I wonder if she knows and if she's ok.

I almost had a similar situation happen. When I was in high school this girl always flirted with me, and we talked a lot, but eventually stopped talking after I graduated from high school and moved away for university. A few years later I found out that her dad and my dad were first cousins. We weren’t super closely related, but still too closely for my comfort. I’m grateful that I moved away before we ended up getting intimate, because things seemed to be gradually going in that direction. 🤢 I have a rare surname in this area. Her parents divorced long ago and she always used her mother’s last name, and never mentioned to me that her father has the same last name as me. I’ve always been disturbed by this, because she never mentioned it to me, and she must have known that there was a possibility that we were related, and I can’t figure out why she never pointed out her father having the same surname as me. Hopefully it was a lack of common sense and not her intentionally concealing it.

I have Hereditary Angioedema and it isn't an easily treatable genetic disease. There are 3 different types of the condition and one of them isn't treatable, and unfortunately that is the one I have. It is usually caused by not having enough C1 Esterase in the blood, however type 3 has normal C1 inhibitors. Also the treatment for the condition is VERY EXPENSIVE and most people with the condition die because they can't afford treatment. 30% of all people with the condition die from it. However, the condition is only 50% inheritiable and it peters out more if one parent doesn't have the gene, so out of many family members (200+) only 4 of us have really bad symptoms of it. Luckily, none of us have died from the condition either, but through Angioedema studies I have met lots of young adults who unfortunately passed away from it. The symptoms start either in your 20s or 40s as well, I developed it in my 20s, but my Dad in his 40s and for us it was caused by extreme stress.

The loss of those children in our small city effected all the parents involved so much that two are now deceased and the other two are heavy addicts. It also effected so many people who knew them all. A tragedy.

Genetic attraction is a real thing. Not uncommon for relatives that didn't grow up together/know about each other in youth to be attracted to each other when they meet as adults.
@SpiritxEnigma Жыл бұрын
I’m dealing with this in the worst way. I only met my half-sister later in life when I was about 10 and she was like 20. Even then we never really talked or anything for about another 7 years, but she was in a toxic/abusive relationship for a decade & had 4 kids. 5 years ago we went on a road trip together and I just completely fell in love. We started getting closer then & she would always comfort me when I was depressed. She found out about my feelings & I could tell it made her uncomfortable. It didn’t bother me because I’ve gotta be real, I’m not right, mentally, nor have I ever had a gf because social anxiety was always my biggest burden. We were both the shy, oldest child of the same mother but different fathers. She’s literally the female version of me. I’m ashamed of this crush & I tried therapy but it eats me alive that we can’t be together. It doesn’t help that she’s currently living with me & our family & she’s been dating MY uncle on my dad’s side since last year. He’s basically doing the exact things I offered to do for her & her kids. If this were 6 years ago, I’d be happy that they’re together, but instead my self-esteem is destroyed because she kept it within my family & every favor/gift I’ve given her changed nothing. Obviously the blood relation is the key difference. I can’t help but still feel heartbroken tho & she knows it too. I was so hurt, that I became a daily alcoholic and ended up with bowel cancer. Now I’ve got about less than 3 years to live because I was too stubborn to let this sick infatuation go. I deserve this punishment at this point.

I ended up dating my cousin once without realizing it. And it turns out we both have the same rare genetic disorder. Also, siblings that weren’t raised as siblings and don’t know they’re siblings tend to be really attracted to each other. It’s a weird and gross fact. I heard that the main reason for this is that we tend to be more attracted to people who look like us.

@mpb34812 жыл бұрын
They were in shock and starting to panic. He said that to head off any guilt or loathing they might harbor for each other or themselves. In essence, he was saying that emotionally and psychologically they weren’t siblings and since they didn’t know, they shouldn’t think they were incestuous perverts or something which is the most probable conclusion they’d jump to about themselves. “They didn’t change each other’s diapers” means they didn’t grow up in the same house, they weren’t raised by the same set of parents, they never behaved or were treated as brother or sister. For all intents and purposes, they were neighbors who fell in love and got married. If anyone was at fault, it was their shared father and her mother for not telling them the truth especially when they started seeing each other.

In my state you have to get a blood test to make sure you aren't closely related before you are allowed to get married for this reason.
@omp1992 жыл бұрын
Ha ha, I'm pretty sure you've misunderstood that. It used to be that many states in the US required people to take blood tests before getting married, mostly to test for sexually transmitted diseases, but almost all states have dropped that requirement. I think that New York still requires tests for sickle-cell anaemia for some couples. But the results do not affect whether they are allowed to get married. And it was never about testing for relatedness.

I agree that people shouldn't lie about the child's bio parents but not all people who end up being a bio parent should be in a child's life because there's abusive parents. I can see a mother in particular lying about the bio father in order to protect the child especially if they are unable to prove the bio father is a danger so the law doesn't force the child to spend time with an abusive parent. However, the child once they're old enough to understand why mom hid the truth should be told and why it was hidden so they can do whatever they need to do with that info so they don't find themselves in a sticky situation that could have been avoided

They didn't know so it's not their fault, but if that happened to me, I think I'd fall right out of love the moment I find out. I met this guy in an inter-school festival, we were kind of drawn to each other and mutual attraction was clear not only to us but to our friends as well. However, when we learned each other's last names, all that attraction was gone in an instant. We both immediately suspected that we must be related because our last name is so uncommon. Turns out we are in fact cousins. It's hard to keep track of relatives when dad has 12 siblings and mum has 15 and they're scattered all over the country and abroad. I still feel sick whenever I remember. If it was a lost sibling, I think I'll be in a state of perpetual vomitting and just die of extreme revulsion. 🤢🤮☠️
