The way the show did returning characters this season was satisfying. The cameos of the people Bean killed in Hell, the laughing horse, the Vikings from season 1, Ursula etc, the show now can do this in an almost Easter egg type way.

Dagmar continues to be the weakest link of the show. She’s often used as an end of season deus ex machina, a means to facilitate sudden change and intrigue but that only worked the first time with the end of season one and start of season two. She’s still such a frustratingly vague character in terms of motivation, Inside Job did a much better job of the toxic parent relationship in one season than Disenchantment has done its whole runtime with Bean and Dagmar.

The most frustrating thing about her for me is the vague character motivation you mentioned. There are zero clues to what the hell she's doing. Her machinations seem tied to, but totally divorced from, Clyde and Becky's, the trøg's, and Hell's. And much of her actions in each sphere seem somewhat contrary to the others. Even with the Hell stuff, it's frustratingly unclear whether she wanted to be Queen of Hell or not, and if not did she just roll with it and is using it to further her real goals? She is the very incarnation of "evil, but vauge, sinister machinations that drive conflict." I think her character has real potential, especially as she does seem to be the ultimate Big Bad of the show; but, damn it, give her something clear as to _what does she really want._ I'm certain that they want her to be mysterious and that's where all of this is coming from, but there's "mysterious" and then there's "vauge to the point of disinterest."
@jordanread58292 жыл бұрын
@@scaper8 I think at this point her motivation is simply absolute power. And she is willing to use anyone who achieve that. Whether it is the trogs, her siblings, Steamland or even her own daughter.
@jbcatz52 жыл бұрын
@@jordanread5829 It’d be nice if we got more of her than the season openers and closers. Love is Hell hints that she was playing a long game to get Bean to that altar with Satan, but because Bean is enacting an escape attempt this never gets elaborated on in the episode. Bean Breaks Down, the season finale, implies Bean was told of Dagmar’s intentions but didn’t think it worth remembering (Bad Bean says she’s the Bean who remembers everything she’s seen and heard) but none of the onscreen interactions support this and you’d think Bean would take note especially after the season two opener. The writers didn’t plan out her arc, despite retroactive claims otherwise.

It’s another Steamland plot thread left dangling, along with the Archdruidess and her own connection to the city. About the ginger mermaid, it reminded me of a throaway line said by Mora's sister to Bean in Part 3: "So Bean, you have a thing for mermaids. First Saphirya and now Mora". Bean seemed confused and Mora quickly said "I don't care about what Bean did in the past". With this new season, it leads me to believe that the battle Mora mentioned while explaining the mermaid constellation was the battle we saw in Part 4, and that Saphirya was the ginger mermaid that was turned into a constellation and led the mermaids into their new home. Now, I think that Dagmar killed Saphirya, as part of her plan to take over Dreamland, and that Mora's sister has confused her with Bean. Which would explain why Mora's sister was acting so passive-aggressively towards Bean.

Something I’d like to see in Part 5 is Elfo’s growing disillusionment with humans after learning more about the history of Dreamland. That could lead to a big shake up with the status quo, something the show has had issues with in the past and be a big thing for Elfo as a character.

Landed in steam world, got a cruise ship, picked up Elmo, zodd etc. they spent the whole season to tie up loose story ends, bring all characters back, make sure everyone knows everyone, explain mysterious story parts, like the elf’s Trogs etc. They levelled the playfield and now we are off for a new 20 episode season with all new stories and interaction with the characters.On the outside the season is kinda weak, but it needed to be or else the show would be in a rut, plot would be stale and repeat itself, nothing new and fresh will happen. Even though both of them are a little brief I think they handled what was needed without inflating the episode run or cutting into an already criminally short season episode count. Also, Imma call it, Freckles is Yog, you heard it here first ladies, gentlemen, and those none binary. Yog never died, merely manipulated into a puppet form by the Maruvians. Hence why Freckles wants the power structure weakened, rightfully it's his , for me it'll all but confirm it if we see him trying to fuck with Dagmar whilst she's on the Dreamland Throne. We don't know a lot about Yog, but I don't think he was as shallow when it came to looks, he knew what Dagmar wanted. My favorite things about this season are Zog’s character development and him getting better in terms of his mental health, plus Jerry’s comeback

I thought the part with the worms was super creepy- when this show goes dark it can really go icky. The comedy continues to feel like a detour most of the time. It feels like they should have mainly made it an adventure show and that they're only doing comedy bc it's a Groening show

My prediction for the Freckles storyline is actually that he is controlled/personifying Yog, Zog's older Brother who was turned to stone years before the series started. Maybe once Zog was in line for the throne, they brought him back to life in Maru and convinced them to help her. Not to mention, they held back his voice during the entire flashback sequence with Zog.
@kevinhedman23142 жыл бұрын
You are forgetting an important detail. Zog would 100 percent recognize yogs voice.
@twilightrocketeer48402 жыл бұрын
@@kevinhedman2314 I agree in some respects, but it's also a possibility the voice is just so exaggerated that Zog hasnt noticed. He was just crazy when Freckles came into the story and could have just stopped questioning it in season 4. Who knows, it's a pretty loose theory as it is, just thought it would be a little fun to share.

I enjoyed this video. While I really enjoyed part 4 there was room for improvement. First thing is absence and lack of character like Prince Merkimer being completely absent, Pendergast’s fate if he went to heaven or hell and a lot less of Odval. I definitely agree that the first 3 episodes could’ve been worked better and that the plots felt rushed. Otherwise, I really enjoy Elfo’s and Miri’s character development. Seeing all of Bean’s enemies and people she has killed in hell or haunting her nightmares was one for my books. Also, I’m really hoping for [bad pun incoming] Mora of Bean’s relationship in part 5 because I fukin stan for Mora x Bean. I give this part 4, 8 out of 10. Great but with some room for improvement.
@hadessonofcronus18262 жыл бұрын
One of my biggest gripes was how Zog never health with Odval, he seemingly has all his memory back and knows what happened to him yet it just glosses over the fact that he tried to have him killed. It can only be justified slightly with Odval saving Bean from being shot by her Aunt, really that just shows that he isn't all bad or does have some principles. Ik Odval's quite a prevalent character but I felt annoyed there was no acknowledgement.

I enjoyed part 4, but the way it ended makes me really hope that they do a part 5 because the show can't just end with a cliffhanger like that leaving so many things unresolved so yeah a part 5 is definitely needed, but anyway i overall enjoyed part 4 despite it having it's ups and downs.

Unpopular opinion: that episode with the whole Hansel and Gretel thing that was basically solved in one episode, making it feel like a side quest was fun, and I love the cameos

I thought the same about Miri. York must be her father. I'm just a little bit confused because of this one thing Becky, Dagmar's sister, said to her... something like she chose the other side or so.

The character Big Joe coming back from every death, and flaming-arrow-to-the-chest guy always returning pretty much establishes that the Disenchantment team understands our concerns about deaths not seeming meaningful, and they aren't trying to make us an audience think a death is permanent, it's for the characters.

If youre right about Mop Girl it would probably support your theory about the theme of the show to be Unity. She would be the bridge to fix the damage the Ogg line and Bean have done.

So I just marathoned all four of your season recaps of this show and I just want to say you've given me a much greater appreciation for a show I was about to write off. I really feel like I should go back and watch it from the beginning to really appreciate it. Hopefully it gets renewed for at least one more season so we can get some answers to all the cliff hangers haha

I personally think that there's so much more to the sea trogs. The episode was really disturbing and it definetly left me with some theories: 1. I think that the sea trogs use the worms like the trogs use the sacred goo 2. I also think that sea trogs are elven AND mermaid-like. I think that this also can have some correlation to the big battle. Here's another theory I have: Freckles could be inhabited by Merkimer. Merkimer knows the castle and so does Freckles. This could also explain the absence of Merkimer in the season

I personally liked the first half of the season better. I feel that soon after as they settled back into Dreamland again, the relationship between the main 3 felt kinda off. The season 1 refrences were all over the season too. I noticed lots of ways they took characters off screen so the animation was easier. Also I knew that horse on the hill was gonna be laughing horse.

Something about the way she picks up the dagger , or holds it, before the flashback, it was like she was the one that was using it, like stabbing the mermaid, if the mystery murderer has Bean's powers, maybe its a memory she uncovered from a past life, it would be very adventure time

Elves are trogs who drank the goo... "This also raises questions about sea trogs," but where do the elf-like trolls from the vault heist episode fit into all of this? Also, in that episode, when Lucy is revealing that he was onto the fake elves' duplicity, he thought he had them figured out as dwarves in disguise. We haven't seen dwarves yet (to my knowledge), but if the demon thinks that dwarves can pass for elves, perhaps they're not all that different. So here's my take on this: Disenchantment IS in the same universe as Futurama but despite it's fantasy medieval setting, it's not an ancient civilization but probably a rebuilt civilization after one of the the destruction of modern civilization that we saw in more than one episode of Futurama. If I had to guess, elves and trogs and sea trogs and trolls and gnomes and ogres and pretty much every non-human thing we're seeing actually all lead back to humanity as either mutations... initially stimulated from radioactive fallout from the fall of civilization and then further mutated over the years under different factors. For example, let's say from human we got little humans and big humans... and then somewhere along the way "magic" is discovered and the little humans evolve into elves, with even more mutation leading to things like fairies while the big humans lead a life of "the strong shall survive" and into ogres over time with the biggest and strongest having "mating privileges" that ensured that big humans just got bigger (and likely less smart as those with the genetic potential for more smarts fell out of the gene pool). And, after ogres, we know there are even bigger humanoids running around with giants like Tess... probably either a further mutation of the "big humans" or an evolutionary offshoot of the ogres. All of this would explain why these creatures are still genetically compatible, giving us a possible half-elf with mop girl and Elfo being the otherwise very unlikely elf/ogre hybrid. If I had to guess about the gnomes, they took the opposite genetic path from ogres... with the small humans mutation breeding down into even smaller people over time, focusing more on intelligence over strength to give them their survival advantage.

I did not like how much effort they put into Zog's story line with the monks or whatever got completely overshadowed instantaneously. I guess its like a Bojack story, but he is shown stealing a bunch of gold from the sea slugs/trogs. It just seems like a useless story line for a show that seems to have every story be meaningful in the future. But, like stated in the video, they do seem to have large cliffhangers that disappear very quickly. I also want to say that Alva was being questioned a lot about the elevator, which was never brought up again. This would be something I would like to know more about. Did I forget/miss something?

Late to the party here but I also think that having Zog’s children finding love and relationships with other races (Derek and with a pixie, Bean with a mermaid) will also have some sort of significance as well. I mean, the series started out with Zog married to Oona - who wasn’t human either. Some sort of parable for overcoming prejudice or something.

In P2, there was a portrait of an old lady from the Maru Palace that didn't look like the others. (14:52, S2 Ep 1) She's holding a scroll and looks like the first Moon crown wearer. Before her none of the Maru rulers are wearing it. Wonder if she'll be important in next seasons.

I don’t know when all those bottles of magic goo popped into shows universe, but if Trogs and their society have been turning themselves into Trogs with it ever since the elves got America’d from Dreamland, then Dagmar more than likely knows there’s a more efficient way to consume it than eating brains. However, considering that Dagmar eating trog brains showed up as a vision during one of Bean’s dreams or drug trips (I don’t remember), it’s obviously payoff to something.

It seems like the biggest complaint people have is that they want more. I think it’s really easy to feel like you’re left hanging but like once we have all the seasons the show is going to be amazing to binge and watch all the way through! I mean, I’m kinda happy that my only complaint is I’m always left wanting more, it ensures I will come back. They seem to know what they are doing with the characters and I think they are doing a good job slowly building them yet still keeping the mystery. Futurama is an amazing series. I’m extremely satisfied with the way it ended and I think I will feel the same way about Disenchantment. I think by the end we will have all the answers and more but they’re not just going to give everything up right when you want it. Just my thoughts.

The Sacred Goo and its capabilities have been perhaps the most interesting plot thread for me ever since we were introduced to it in season 2, where its implied that Derek unwittingly feeding it to Slimy is what turned it from a tiny little rock creature into the giant kraken-y thing, so clearly it can have affects on non-saviors other than just turning them into Trogs. It does make me think of how the leader of the Trogs tried to tell Leavo before he drank it that "it gives you what you deserve". Perhaps the goo, or whatever magic lies within it felt Luci deserved wings, Leavo deserved to highlight the similarity between Elves and Trogs and Slimy somehow deserved to become a Kraken. There's also the matter of Leavo having dedicated his life to tracking down the Sacred Goo, albeit under the name "The Very Thing", and that being turned into a Trog was a letdown. Where did he find out about it and what did he think it would do? I doubt all of these questions will be answered in what remains of the story, but there's so much to unpack with something that hasn't actually had any real prominence until this season.

I have a question. Who kidnapped Luci at the end of the season 1 (episode 10)? At the beginning of the second season we learn, that he's in the bottle inside Dagmar's closet. But it wasn't Dagmar who kidnapped him. She was with Bean at the top of the castle. And Luci said: *gasp "You?!". So he obviously knew the captivator. Could it be that it was Freckles?

11:30 Johnny. Johnny. Remember the episode with Mora, Bean, and Elfo on the boat? The famous battle, where a famous mermaid was killed. The Battle of Falling water? These corpses are found right by the waterfall in Dreamland. I wonder. We have a seat of Elves under castles. We have a seat of Humans over it, and we see a part of the castle showing a Mermaid. Dreamland used to be ruled by an alliance between the three, and the castle was made of those. The Elves, the Humans, and the Mermaids. At some point, the Humans overthrew the Mermaids and the Elves, driving them out.
@scwh31812 жыл бұрын
One thing that annoys me about the show is how it seems to forget and lose interest in its own plotlines. It always comes back to them eventually, but characters go from being deeply concerned about things mysteries, completely forgetting them and then being concerned again at the drop of a hat. It's mostly with earlier seasons, but you see a bit this season, too. For instance, Cloyd and Becky turn into dolls and send the characters plummeting into the ocean. They have a wacky underground adventure, and come home... yet are seemingly unconcerned with the fact that those two both tried to kill them and are clearly still in the castle, and seem actually surprised when they turn up again for some reason. I think it's more of a writing issue than a character one. It's like the writers are juggling too many details at once, and hasn't thought them through quite well enough, and as a result, stuff just kind of happens sometimes. It's still a decent enough show, but whenever I watch it, I can't help feeling like it should be a bit better.
