What I find interesting about this video is the "big moment" is somewhat glossed over when that is in fact the biggest reason why the Amber hate is (was?) pretty strong. It's less character related and more writing related. This is stated in the video but it's quickly swept under for the admittedly more interesting character study, but I think it is a mistake to not stress how bad of a scene that was for Amber. I've watched Season 1 with multiple people and they all commented on how bad Mark was treating Amber, but the moment that Amber stated she knew he was a superhero and have "for weeks", that's when nearly all favor for Amber diminished. Because not only does it make Amber not make sense in the previous episode, it can also be taken a step further since that lack of harmony between the two episodes recontextualizes her character when you take it at face value. If Amber knew for weeks, and strongly values honesty, then why did she effectively lie to Mark in the previous episode? Why not commit to talking to him about it? For every benefit you can give to Amber for the "big moment" there's about twice as many ways that damages her character that you'd have to ignore. The writing does choose to ignore this in Season 2, which perhaps is a silent confirmation that it actually was a writing problem.

One thing I noticed about Amber is we don’t actually see her suffering the consequence of Mark’s lying in season 1 and being a superhero in season 2. She always TELLING Mark what happened or what he missed. Now we don’t need to see EVER single time Mark didn’t show up but I think there are two scenes from each season that would’ve made the audience more sympathetic to Amber. -In season 1 they should’ve add a scene where we see Amber waiting for Mark to show up to that dinner with her mom. There doesn’t even need to dialogue, it can be Amber waiting anxiously for Mark to show up and her mom giving Amber a questionable look. A scene like that would’ve made the audience feel bad for Amber. We all know Mark is trying to protect the world but Amber is suffering the consequences of the constant lying. So when we see Mark promise to be better for Amber later on we as the audience get annoy with Mark because we know he can’t do that. -Then for season 2, I think there should have been a scene of Amber learning her grandfather died (If my memory is correct this was when Mark went to space to help with Nolan) In this scene we should have Amber instinctively try to call Mark learning this news but it goes to voicemail. We can have the scene play out where Amber goes on this long and heartbreaking speech explaining that she wishes Mark was here for her to support her for this. However we see her look guilty as she goes on this speech before deciding to cancel the voicemail and never sending up. Showing once again how Amber is suffering the consequences. This time it hurts WAY more because Amber really is trying to be supportive of Mark and trying to be better. Even though she is trying that doesn’t mean it doesn’t bother her and see it. I think seeing these scenes instead of hearing them would have helped out a lot. Because as that one English teacher always said, “Show is better than telling”

Good point but there is another key issue not addressed. Family. You can choose to have a partner or not but family is always there. Should you come clean to family too? It’s just unavoidable to put them in danger. So the idea just runs into a brick wall. Overall, superheroes should just get with other superheroes. That avoids most of these problems.

The biggest problerm with Amber is that we DO NOT CARE about her feelings and problems. It's obvious her and Mark aren't going to be a couple. She's meaningless and her struggles don't matter. It's not a show about her, and the viewers would rather Mark spending time with someone more important like Eve or whatever else. This is a story about intergalactic war, nobody gives a fuck about a teenage girl's relationship problems. Sure, most of her actions and ideas are reasonable. But we don't even wanna hear her talk at all. And it is made even worse when she DOES say something actually stupid.

I understand some of her anger for not being there but if she knew he was invincible then how can she get mad at him for leaving to save her and William from the Re-anime Men what did she want him to do in that moment

Fun fact, the studio that animated this version of Spider-Man probably went by Rainmaker Studios at this time, BUT before then it was previously called Mainframe entertainment, the studio that did the CGI animation for shows like Shadow Raiders, Transformers: Beast Wars/Beast Machines, and Reboot as well as Scary Godmother, during their final days.

I think they planned his immortality from very early on, since as early as season 1 kenny is often extremely paranoid about anything remotely dangerous, and it ramps up as seasons progress, his entirely plotline in one season 3 episode was taking home ec because he was absolutely terrified of shop class

A stellar video, as always! You point out so many things I never considered before and connected so many dots. It was literally with your closing words that I made the (potential) connection between Sarah Lynn's dream of being an architect, and Bojack and Eddie rebuilding the house 🤯

Season 2 Amber and this relationship played out waaaay better than it did in the comics. It still made me sad but the comics breakup was MESSY I didn't even know how to handle myself afterwards. I was feeling more lost than Mark. The TV show breakup just felt bittersweet but maybe that's because I knew it was coming and I know I can somewhat trust Robert Kirkman to improve a story on adaptation to TV

If i may add another example to support you and Kaiserneko's side, Johnny Even DEATH OF SUPERMAN acknowledged this in the animated film ver. In which Superman, after hwaring how the Flash and his fiancee are getting married, he asks if Flash told her about his identity to which Flash said "of course i did i told her months ago" not when they started dating but months before the proposal and when Superman questioned it Aquaman added "oh Supes, you dont drop a bombshell like that on the honeymoon" So pretty much nearly every side of the comic book genre has answered this for fans and said how important it is to be honest with your significant other and how you have to not keep them in the dark on things like this or at the very least dont do like what Mark did.

Bruh, I acknowledge and understand a lot of the points made in this video, but what gets me is that Mark is still a person with his own emotional wants and needs. And if he can't satisfy them because of his superhero responsibilities and he distance himself from general civilians this would usually impact people psychologically, like how they treat others depending on who they are. And if that was the standard where superheroes just don't interact with other people that may create an especially dangerous social classism; like The Boys(?). And to the point of villains targeting loved ones close to superheroes whether they're aware of the danger or not, that's just the tip. Villains could target superheroes': residence or the general area, civilian workplace, or favorite hangout place. Or they could just doxx the superhero to the public and let chaos reign from that.

Yeah, no, she made it all about herself, the lie it is small compared to the secret, miniscule; she was petty and a bitch about it. It would be like being mad at someone for canceling because they had to go to chemotherapy, only they didn't want to talk to you about it yet because you've been dating 6 months. She improved in S2 though, made her more real.

Keep in mind when trying to relate episodes to certain timed jokes and their releases, some shows would release episodes out of order at the time. For example Saved By The Bell would release Season 1 episodes randomly in the middle of Season 3 for the first time. So trying to place certain episodes to certain seasons based on character appearance and references can be tricky. Even more so considering this sitcom is not real..

bro I just don't know why people don't get that a character can be unlikable AND understandable. her reasons for being upset were valid but she didn't go around it in the best way, and to a lesser extent the same applies to Mark people care more about picking sides than looking at the bigger picture
