So in Hungary South Park is dubbed. Chef's voice over was simply done again by the same actor. You could imagine the confusion around the character haha

Chef was lame, I was glad when he left. Singing and crude comedy are incongruent imo. It only kinda worked when he played a role analogous to Home Improvement's neighbor guy. Where he gives sage advice that the main characters hilariously misunderstand. The show historically works best when it relies on Cartman for the comedy. The ignorant adults are pretty funny too. Lately they've gotten a lot of great laughs from Randy too. I'd say Cartman and Randy Marsh are the two comedy gold mines.

That line about the Emancipation Proclamation from Chef and the response from the general in the movie is one of my all-time favorite moments from this series. It always leaves me laughing. I'm just glad Trey and Matt went out on good terms with Issac, as that cult is what is it: A cult. If anything, South Park helped so much in exposing their BS, that it's why most don't look at Scientology with good intentions anymore. May Issac's soul rest in the beyond for all the good he has done for music, movies, and pop culture in-general Also, hi Ceric lol. Or the actual VA for Ceric

Bro my favorite part of the coon and friends trilogy was when Kenny saw his parents getting arrested and he says “what the fuck” In his real voice but then shifts into “what the fuck 👨‍🦰“ that’s my favorite moment of Kenny in the show 😂😂

Even when I first saw this episode (the moment it first aired) I always saw the ''the dragons and zombies are coming'' joke as more aligned with the fact that GRRM being such a slow writer and it pertaining more to the books. The books are coming. When. Never. Even if it was during season 3 or 4 of the show GRRM was already infamous for being such a slow writer.

I think I’m one of the few people who has seen both and disagrees with this sentiment. I love every season of Rick and Morty and I feel like Solar Opposites has kinda fallen off in S3 or 4. I haven’t seen S5 yet and when I do I think I’ll rewatch the entire series since that greatly improves my feelings on shows. I just feel like S3 and 4 was when the family’s plots started to feel forgettable and S4 both side plots felt lost. Again maybe this rewatch will really help me, I’ll see.

I had this on VHS or dvd I can’t quite remember. I had a lot of spider man stuff as a kid. But I would watch this over and over and over. Looking back at it now I realize how bad it actually is but it will still always hold a special place with me because I watched it so much.

Honestly, I always felt even from the beginning of the show they always had Chef as the levelheaded mentor character. Yeah, he had his "singing songs related to sex and getting carried away with that" gimmick but like even from the first episode he was still seen as the only adult who not only had more general common sense but also believed the kids. Like his first interaction with the boys (BTW Chef is actually the SIXTH character to appear in the entire series after Stan, Kyle, Cartman, Kenny and Ike... unless you want to count the nameless visitors which I really don't. So yeah not only first adult character but again one of the first characters) is him asking if they heard about the aliens and if Cartman got an anal probe because yeah Chef is the only one who actually BELIEVES them about the aliens unlike Miss Crabtree or Mr. Garrison as even when Cartman's farting fire Garrison still doesn't believe anything's really specifically wrong. And when they point out no one else believes them thus why they can't leave school to search for Ike, Chef pulls the fire alarm to allow them to go search... well in like the uber expanded original cut he gave Cartman like a super pepper that made him shoot out flames which is the reason they were able to leave (also the reason that Cartman was later farting fire in the original) but eh I think the fire alarm is better but the point is Chef was looking out and helping them from the start. So though we do see him grow more as a character and become a bit more of a serious mentor esque role, it was one he always had from the start. And yeah I always did love Chef and was super bummed after the whole Scientology thing happened. Like I do love "The Return of Chef" as an episode (far more then "Trapped In The Closet" honestly) but I would have loved more if Chef was around. And yeah Matt and Trey have admitted how there is sort of a whole in the show without him. That was specifically pointed out in "The List" commentary saying that the whole ghost of Abe Lincoln thing was done since that sort of role would normally have gone to Chef but like he wasn't around so had to think of something else.

Funny thing, I used to do yard work in a house near Memphis when I was in college. They said it belonged to someone famous used to live in that house, but I didn’t recognize the name. Then I started watching South Park and it hit me, oh that’s Issac Hayes’ old house (this was way after he passed).

My dad had on his work laptop in 1999, a screensaver with south park, one was chef's song and a few others like mr garrison doing elton john. I'd drive him nuts playing salty balls over and over. Oh yeah,. cartman doing sailing away was another. And ozzy saying thank you chef My greatest memories of chef was that and people singing chef songs on the bus. Rip
