Maaaaaan, I really wish this quest had been designed better, along with the Discard mechanic in general. Summoning imps every turn feels very flavourful and Warlock-like, but it's just so appallingly bad.

MockRock it’s not that it’s bad, it’s that discard mechanics aren’t built very well towards control. An infinite effective 6/4 every turn is incredibly good for grinding down the opponent’s resources in most circumstances.

jocaguz18 that would be way too good. What it should do is discard specific cards but still be random. Stuff like hand positioning, cost, and card types being the main categories i can think of, with the truly strong discard cards like doomguard just staying the same. That alongside cards that benefit more from discard mechanics in a control type of deck would make the archetype good.

After summoning the portal, newly summoned imps should be improved the more cards you discard, this would make quest exponentially stronger as the game goes on, and rewards you for finishing it earlier

I agree. In general, he made a lot of mistakes this game, but that was the most obvious one. Instead of a 4/4 on the board, with a dead 4/3 in hand that requires a discard, he could have had a 4/3 on the board and a 6/6 that grows stronger in hand. He would have been able to play an extra 6/6 the next turn.

He 100% should have killed the questing instead of the hench-clan thug, though. If the miracle rogue played more than two cards, the questing adventurer would have been a bigger threat than the hench-clan thug would've been, assuming he also attacked once to buff the thug. And he ended up playing a lot more than two cards, making a massive adventurer he couldn't possibly have gotten rid of. Hench-clan thug can only gain +1/+1 a turn max, while questing can spiral hard out of control very quickly. He completely ignored that and killed the thug, then seemed to realize his mistake when he had to choose between the questing adventurer and auctioneer.

But... I get the quest off consistently on turn 5 by just cataclysming and lose most of the time because the reward sucks... Why do you get to win with a deck that's not even as good in theory because after you complete the quest you get lower value cards? The deck can work pretty well in wild, I actually run it on EU and it does pretty well (50% win rate with 201 games, 101 wins, 100 losses). Very different build though. You threw in some cards which are, frankly, counterproductive and didn't include some cards that I would consider core cards to this deck (Lana'thel and howlfiend are standard still, right? I know Mal's imp is Kara which is wild, and that's a card that I honestly can't see this deck really working without).

If you see this comment please thumbs it up or something so that I know that it sent. Also, a few pointers: 1) You're looking to hard mulligan for mal's imp and cata 2) ideal play that you're going for is mal's imp, coin, cata on turn 4 which will give you quest on curve AND a handful of options so that you're not top decking 3) Discard as many cards as you can until you get Lana'thel. That vampire woman has saved my backside a lot with this deck, but she needs a strong amount of attack so she can heal you properly when you play her (probably late game-ish time) 4) If you're going first, try to tap and play imp on turn 3 if you have cata in hand. Not often, but maybe 20% of the time, people will ignore the imp and still go for your face. Cata+imp on turn 5 is slow and can lead to overdrawing. 5) Rin, Mal'Ganis and Lana'thel are cards that you want to try and avoid discarding but it's them or not playing cata on turn 4, throw them out and play cata 6) As tempting as it might be, unless you're going against a hard aggro deck (like silverhand pala), use your turns to play qquest on turn 1, life tap on turn 2, life tap on turn 3, then see points 2 & 4 and play appropriately.

Just more cards like Zavas would be fine. 4/5 mana 2/2 that gets +1/+1 when discarded. Or a minion that 'upgrades' (for example maybe a 3 mana 2/2, that becomes a 4 mana 4/4, and finally a 4 mana 5/5 with lifesteal) when discarded but only has two upgrades rather than infinite scaling.

The problem with cards that benefit from being discarded is that it feels really bad when your discard misses. I think a discard effect like "discard the left most card in your hand" would be a better way to keep discard sort of random while still being able to protect important cards.

i am a discard warlock main , and i am here to tell u that discard warlock ain't bad , i got a 44% win rate in R20 , at least u can win.(ok it's bad) and as far as i know, the best strategy is to discard all your hand on turn3/4 like soulfire face and open portal in t6/7 , then your opponent will concede because of butthurt before they find out that u are still very weak even if the portal is opened at the another day , druid bring me to legend in ease.

i got 2 variation(i play wild mostly) , first is aggro but no quest , u just cram up all discard card that can gain u tempo ,"go face" cards , good card like flame imp and kobold librarian , no big minion or guldan , maybe some counter card for druid second is built around quest ,most discard card, especially important : soularium , the card that make your portal open at T5 , let it discards your card just for the quest , spellstone for healing , zavas if you have dust. I put jaraxxus for late game , because quest reward are really weak. my play style are not very into the late game ,so i just put defile or hellfire. And something i am still not sure is it good or not , I put stormwind champion to strengthen the quest reward the second deck is still not that slow cause u will draw massively , if u get a good hand , u will fatigue around T15 and your own HP will be the main problem , most control deck have a litte brust damage that can kill u ( even when they still have AOE on their hand) if u always have good hand , second deck can kill your opponent as fast as the first one , but the first style is much more consistent(aggro) BUT discard warlock is weak , healing Zoo can play 11/9 at T1 but you can't , druid can kill u with any OTK deck , other control deck are more solid in the late game ( at least they are not in fatigue when you are ) So I said the prime winning strategy is "your opponent concede" is not joking ( in some degree) , they don't know how weak you are still after you open the portal , or they concede because they respect u You will win not because u are so strong in any aspect , is because your opponent don't know you ( even a 3/8 taunt in T4 can be surprise)

Nether portal should get stronger the longer it has been on the field, like every 2 or so turns the imps it summons get more attack (but not more health so they're still easily removed). Discarding 6 cards is not only difficult but a massive resource dump, and Nether Portal is hot garbage.

@Icuit rogue has little cards in deck and only another spider spawn guy as a threat. Both evis and 1 cold blood were used at this point so that auctioneer wouldn't draw into anything he cant deal with especially with over 20 health left. The auctioneer was going to turn into a fatigue machine with I believe 7 cards left in deck and him having 2 shivs which turns that into 3. The questing is by far the bigger threat since it got up to 11/X.

Yeah exactly, he used 2 saps, one Evis, one Cold Blood, Edwin, both Questings, there was very little in the way of threat left in his deck. Just one evis, one brittish pig, and one Fal'dorei. Killing the Auctioneer was favourable to the rogue, and if Toast hadn't drawn multiple Voidlords back to back, and/or the rogue had a hoot hoot or something, that questing could have severely punished Toast.

I didn't know toast accepted player submitted decks. If that the case, I would really like if you could showcase my odd mage, reno rogue, discard lock, and tyrantus druid. I think they all have serious potential but I just dont know what could be missing :/. Maybe you could refine them more? Edit: They are Wild format decks.

Quest warlock is so bad deck. It cannot be neither called midrange or control. Someone may say that "of course, it cannot be midrange" but I feel a discard midrange warlock will do better than this. The problem with control is the discard mechanic itself is anti-synergistic. The quest asks you to discard 6 cards which mean you will have 6 less cards in hand which mean you need to draw 6 more cards to compensate. This means the quest is already pushing you 6 cards into fatigue and 6 fewer turns for you "infinity" imps. I don't know what kind of deck you expected to grind out when Quest warlock will automatically lose when the control opponent decides to for the fatigue game. And if you decide to not draws for resources, you will be overwhelmed by your opponent because how low impactful is the quest.
