The other reason is because they are part of a commercial industry (NFL, MLB, etc) that has become rich enough to pay these people a lot. How did they get rich? Fans. People like you and I. They are stars. That kind of money just doesn’t exist in many industries. Now, would you or I go breaking up “fatbergs” for what these guys are getting paid? I don’t know. Chances are they work for Public Works and/or it’s a government job. They probably get paid a lot more than I do and have much better health care than mine. Ironically, not likely. There are very few bacteria that eat fat on its own, and while the organics do harbour potentially harmful bacteria, when you fat with masonry you get saponification of the fats, (hence why they are white and not yellow.). This creates a surfactant such that it is hard for bacteria to form large colonies in such an environment. (this is also why too much fat is bad for your local waste treatment plant too.) But I would keep my mouth closed personally.

actually ive done jobs like this and yeah they should be wearing rescue rope to a full body harness and a self contained breathing apparatus, and gas monitors. h2s is a naturally occuring gas that can go from 1ppm to 700ppm in matters of minutes at that rate one lung full could make you drop dead

I find this video quite interesting myself as a sewer pump technician. The fatbergs you see here are actually very common in lift stations and treatment plants. Hopefully videos like this bring more awareness to making the lives of your local municipal workers easier. Fatbergs like this are capable of bringing lift stations to a stop and flooding people's basements with raw sewage. Fatbergs are the nicer bits of the sewer system. You guys should see the hair monsters that can spawn in a sewer.
