Sir can you explain this question relating to this explanation: Consider a hard disk with 16 recording surfaces (0-15) having 16384 cylinders (0-16383) and each cylinder contains 64 sectors (0-63). Data storage capacity in each sector is 512 bytes. Data are organized cylinder-wise and the addressing format is. A file of size 42797 KB is stored in the disk and the starting disk location of the file is . What is the cylinder number of the last sector of the file, if it is stored in a contiguous manner? A 1281 B 1282 C 1283 1284 I could not understand much about it

Try this way...one cylinder will have how much data? it will have 16(surface) * 64(sector) * 512bytes(each sector capacity) you divide this with file size 42797 x 2^10bytes / 2^4 * 2^6 * 2^9 = it will give you a number of sectors which will be 83.58...that means 83 sectors won't enough so you add 1 and it would be 84 cylinders will be enough to hold entire file. Alternatively way. 42797Kb/512(1 sector) = 85594(Sectors) 85594/64(1 surface) = 1337.40 surfaces 1337.40/16(1 cyclinder has 16 clinder) = 83.58 (83+1=84 cylinders)
