I'd like a VT as well but with a 4020 turning about 100 HP I'm pretty much limited to a ten footer and like you said, it's not in the budget. I'll be hitting my corn stalks with my old AW John Deere disk and probably seed with my FBB drill. I just got the drill for planting hay and teff grass so I'll try it out with something that doesn't matter as much first.

Just run it 2 inches deep at 7 mph like them "How Farms Work" boys run their "vertical tillage" disk LOL:) Same job lot cheaper LOL:) OL J R :)

Could you reduce the angle of the gangs on that disk? Soybean farmer did that and essentially made a poor man’s VT…just a thought.

I can but they don't go all the way straight. I used the least angle when I did the soybean stubble where it worked well but that didn't cover anything in the corn stubble. The best combination here was full angle and shallow depth.

They may as Wes has helped TC out before but don't forget he also has all of his own to do as well it is why I try to do everything I can as it isn't just cost it's availability. It is why we got our own used bale wrapper as we lost a field of hay when the weather turned. I was still a kid and dad went on holiday thinking it would be ready to bale when he came back instead when he came back it rained for a week and a half. When we saw one of the contractors we have used dad had said it was a shame as we probably could have baled it as haylage, their answer was you could have baled it but there wouldn't have been anyone to wrap it as everyone had been booked solid and the ones he had done last weren't going to be much good either as they had been unwrapped so long they were heating up.
