@msimonson plus this was way before people even started sampling drums. it's from a old beat box so it's not like i jacked some other producer's ish. the only reason why i showed where i got the snare from is because it was a hip hop record. (i thought it was pretty obvious where i got it from) otherwise i'd never tell where i get my drums from. peace.

@JimastaJ i did this video out of sequence. i purposely did the bassline first because that's the most frequent question i get asked on how i do it. i always start with drums/percussion, then the sample, then bassline, then whatever else i add to the track.

@msimonson that's the point. i eq'd it the way i wanted it to sound. it's called sound sculpting. that way it's harder for the average listener to tell where you got it from. normally i don't jack snares from hip hop records, but every once in a while i'll make an exception. i mean the song is from 1979. it's still around the same era of soul, funk, jazz, etc. i would sample. all the greats sampled from early hip hop records. just look up "You Know My Steez"

no disrespect, but if you read one of my earlier comments i played the bass first because i'm frequently asked to demonstrate basslines in my videos. i made this track years ago and of course with sampling it's not in perfect pitch so you have to tune it to match. i definiely CANNOT play, at least not proficiently so it does take me a while to figure out. but i can play by ear and that's about it. i couldn't tell you where "C" is on a keyboard and i didn't use a midi keyboard either. all MPC!

the beat was originally made in "that" era of hip hop. early to mid 2000's. someone requested me to make a video of this beat from my old sound click page lol

if you thought i was faking the funk on playing those bass notes and sampled them you're wrong. you can take any sample and map it out on the pads so it plays with note variation. it's called 16 levels. if you watch my filipremo video you can clearly see that i'm actually playing the bell notes on the mpc. no need for a keyboard. it's easier, but for me i like to do everything on one machine with no extra devices. and fyi sampling is a lot more than adding a drum groove
