For several years, it's been my dream to sail on Disney Cruise Line's (former) flagship, the Disney Fantasy, in one of her 21 suites.They call it their Concierge rooms and today I want to review my experience sailing onboard in one of those elusive rooms, how I did it and most importantly... if it's worth the money.

If you want some idea of just HOW overpriced even ordinary cabins are on Disney, my wife and I were planning a June 2023 Alaska cruise (for our 30th anniversary)…For a standard Accessible Balcony cabin on the Disney Wonder 7 night with stops in Juneau, Skagway and Victoria, this would’ve been $9000…not even for a suite, just a standard accessible 425 sq ft room….A comparably sized cabin on Royal Caribbean’s Ovation of the Seas, which made two extra port calls, WAS SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS LESS!! This was enough to actually afford an entire second cruise, a 19 night Australia to Honolulu cruise stopping in New Zealand, Tahiti and Bora Bora, and in the same 425 sq ft Accessible balcony cabin…So, NO…not worth it

We’ve done concierge on 3 sailings and I agree, as nice as concierge is, it is not “worth” the price. I believe it’s worth trying it once just to experience, especially if you want to reserve a cabana, a sought after expedition, or it’s on a very special/unique cruise, but make no mistake you are paying for the privilege of being in an elevated class. Staying concierge actually made me feel better about booking normal rooms. All concierge perks fit on only one sheet of paper and boil down to lounge access and early bookings, and since concierge is usually twice the cost of a regular room you’re better off doing 2 sailings for the cost of one in concierge.
@valeriepark9444
@valeriepark9444 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it seems like the sort of people who would routinely book concierge are the "country club" types who don't want to "mix with lower classes". They're paying for exclusivity, full stop.

“Value” is a relative term. I don’t think you will ever find a luxury, concierge like service that is “worth it” when you add up the cost of the benefits you get. The value is really in two things high income earners often want: time and less hassle. If you make 800k a year, work 60-80 hours a week, and can only get away for a few weeks each year, you prioritize time and stress relief when you’re on vacation. 30k isn’t really a huge amount in that context, but if it gives you more time to do what you want or makes the planning less of a hassle, it is suddenly worth it.

Sure you can! MSC Yacht Club includes MUCH MORE exclusive experiences such as: a 24/7 bar included, stocked minibar included, fine dining exclusive restaurant only for others in the Yacht Club induced, private deck with swimming pool included, and your own Buttler! And all of these exclusive features are often even cheaper than what he paid for his room even at half price!

I would love to see your take on the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. It has received terrible word of mouth but it's a interesting concept IMO. A hybrid of dinner theater, theme hotel and cruise experience. It looks like deal's are becoming available because of low bookings.

@soapboxgamer9877 Жыл бұрын
From my nerd friends: If you can immerse yourself in the story, and like role-playing, the Galactic Starcruiser weekend is fantastic. But, it definitely takes someone who wants immersion. If you don't want to look like an idiot in costume, talking about how the resistance must be crushed beneath the heel of law and order (or how the oppressive puppet "government" of the first order must be stopped at all costs) -- then yeah. It would probably suck a lot.

The Fantasy is my favorite as well. I would never do concierge as I just don't believe its worth the insane price. We love our standard aft verandah. The service is already beyond exceptional too. People complain about decor being "dated"?? Its based on classic ocean liner design which is downright gorgeous. Its rich, luxurious, and makes you feel like royalty. Thats one of the many reasons I was not a fan of the Wish. It felt cheap and sterile... I guess those people complaining about the classic ships can just go on the Wish. Great video!

Having done concierge on the Dream and, recently, on the Wish. I agree that the value is just not there, especially on the Dream and Fantasy. The Wish has a much better lounge and we spent a large portion of our time there, the bartenders were fantastic. We felt there was “better” value on the Wish, but still not enough to justify the price. Disney Cruise Line Concierge is nice for a splurge, if you can save up for it, but certainly does not provide an experience worthy of the price. Great video, as always!😊

The Haven from NCL is one of the best ship within a ship luxury concepts. You get all the perks from staying in there regardless of cabin and offer way more perks than Disney has. More space, exclusive restaurants, pools, butler service throughout the ship and more. Oh and the price for it is MUCH less. I booked a 10 day mediterranean cruise for this May for 3 people in a 2 bedroom suite on the NCL Epic, and all in with travel protection and there free at sea items, it was $15k. And if we added another person it would only be $50 for the room and then gratuities ect on top of that.

I was also on NCL epic and was NOT a fan to be honest. It’s clear the ships design had two things in mind 1) to route everyone through the casino no matter what 2) to have the maximum amount of cabins with decks. This resulted in extremely small and claustrophobia inducing cabins compared to the industry standard. Service was also below average. I’ve taken many cruises but I firmly believe that will be my last one.

I have never felt more like a princess in my life, it was an amazing experience and truly one you would never forget. Also having Palo come to your room is a good cheat code to get kids under 18 to eat it, because it is an adult only restaurant.

Just in comparison of a similar class of room. I went on Oasis of the Seas back in Summer 2022 outta New York for a 7 night Bahamas cruise. We stayed in a 1 bedroom Aquatheater suite which is in Royal Caribbean Sky Class of rooms. It’s the second highest tier behind Star class. For 4 guests it was around 12k. Comparing amenities however, the room was good size; about 500 sq ft but had a massive balcony with 270 degrees views of the back and side of the ship along with a amazing view of the aqua theater shows. The room also includes dining at the suites only restaurant Coastal Kitchen for breakfast lunch and dinner. The food is higher quality than normal main dining. It also gives you priority boarding which saved us nearly 2 hrs of waiting in line. You also get priority debarkation off the ship for shore excursions and you get reserved seating at all of the shows. You also have access to the suite lounge which has little plates and appetizers along with a free cocktail hour. They also have free beer you can take back to your room at anytime. For the price point it was well worth the money, I cannot imagine spending nearly 30k for a similar product on Disney just cause it’s Disney. The name isn’t worth an extra 10k.

Honestly while it sounds like Royal Caribbean’s product is pretty good, the 12,000 for the equivalent room that we stayed in sounds better on Disney actually

@@BrightSunTravels I looked at a concierge room for June 2024, same month we travelled and it’s 21k for the cheapest concierge room on a 7 night for 4 guests. Your saying the extra 9k is worth it 😬 I’m sure that Disney cruises are great I just can’t imagine spending that much for Disney world at sea

Thanks for the objective review Jake. Having sailed DCL, I know it's expensive, but this takes pricey to the next level. I think I'll stick with the Royals, Carnivals and NCLs of the world.

A grand a day vs (in your other video) a grand a day at an on property at Disney, seems like a good deal. I will do this at some point. Love the Fantasy.

I’ve been extremely happy with the standard balcony cabins and even able to snag a cabana once. Concierge looks neat but definitely not worth the cost unless someone else is paying 😂

We have Disney Aulani here. I took a look at their rooms and there is nothing like what they have on the ship. Very pedestrian. And it's fully booked for at least three months that I looked at! And they change their prices based on season and availability. Price I found was $1.5k for their mediocre room with a "partial" ocean view. Unless you have kids with a Disney neuroses, never mind.

Wow, so that makes me feel better about my normal inside cabin, I sort of don't think that is worthwhile. I will hang out with the normal folks. We are going on the magic in January! I supper appreciate this video!

There’s other options with other lines that you get MORE benefits and the same luxury at a much cheaper price than Disney! Check out MSC Yacht Club, you can often get a inside room in the Yacht Club on a week long cruise for less than he paid at half price on Disney!

Ive been on the Fantasy only as a "regular" passenger and it seems very close to what you showed here (minus the room size/hot tub) but how often are you going to really be in the room anyway when there is so much to do elsewhere in the ship?

When it comes down to pricing vs stuff you get (value/bang for the buck) this is more proof that Disney has become the Apple of cruise lines (not even just their cruise line Disney in general).

This was interesting to see how some people cruise and what they're willing to pay for it. I have young kids, and I don't cruise Disney because their normal cabin prices are so damn expensive. I'm sure the experience is excellent, but I doubt I'd book one of these cabins even if I were independently wealthy. I'd probably book an elevated experience on one of the other cruise lines for a lot cheaper. That being said, I'm not a Disney person, so the whole Disney thing doesn't appeal to me particularly.

As someone who can't afford that price, but that has gone to the best hotels of Mexico, I would stick to hotels, amazing price, beach, activities, food and drinks included in the whole price. 1 week for 8k USD.

I would like to se you review the standard experience for the Fantasy (or one of the other ships of its line). Because it's always been a small dream of mine to ride a Disney cruise and, should that day ever get to come, I would like am honest idea of what it's actually like beforehand.

We recently came off the Disney Wonder on a 7 Night Concierge trip down the Mexican Riviera from San Diego that we managed to book for only $2,000 more than a Deluxe Family Verandah. At that price, it was most definitely worth it for everything you get. Our Concierge staff was incredible, too. Now when it exceeds that price bump is where it comes to question if it's truly worth it. Next year's Thanksgiving cruise on the Fantasy will run about $6k more with Concierge. Not so sure that's worth it.

I’ve been on 5 Disney Cruises, and I do agree that concierge is most likely not worth it. You spend so little time in your room with all the activities that it can often only be a place to sleep during your cruise. The only time I think it might be worth it is on a transatlantic cruise since you spend so much time on the ship. Overall though Disney cruises are amazing, glad you got to experience the Fantasy!

I would agree with you. Free snacks for lunch and an exclusive daytime lounge are meaningless if you're gonna be out and about all day. Same thing with the daytime perks at the Disney Resorts - you're going to be at the park all day. Why the heck would you be munching on free finger food in an empty hotel lounge?

I suspect the main thing with Disney that differs from other cruise lines, premium or otherwise, is that if you looked at the demographics of Disney cruisers, they probably are cruising once in a lifetime or exclusively with Disney. We're talking families celebrating their grandparents 50th anniversaries, or having saved for years just to take this one cruise one time. That's just a gut feeling, I have no data to support it other than my own experiences cruising Disney, but it's why there is both a higher price and a more level experience for all classes of passenger. That's why they can get away with offering a 7 day cabin at the same price as a month and a half three continent cruise on another line--the clientele is just different, they are looking for a once in a lifetime experience that emotionally is likely to justify a higher price and were never even in the market for equivalently priced but more expansive experiences elsewhere.
