man i went to animal kingdom 2 days ago and i used genie plus for kiliminjaro safaris, navi river journey, and flight of passage. walked on to everest and kali river rapids with no more that a 35 minute wait on those. went to epcot the next day on 4th of july and did not use a single lightning lane and still rode everything but frozen. even rode guardians of the galaxy twice

That sounds like a great trip so far - nicely done! Personally, I don’t use Genie Plus for Epcot and Animal Kingdom because - as you discovered - you can manage those parks without it even on busy holiday weekends. That said, it is super nice to hop in those Lightning Lanes when we make these videos. Hope the rest of your trip goes as smoothly as Epcot and DAK! 😃

Hi Rob, thank you for such a helpful video! You’re my new favorite Disney channel! You always point out so many extra details that others don’t mention, and I really appreciate that so much, like how long to refresh, show a Cast Member an issue or book first then cancel members of your party as needed! I also love how informative you are without all the extra fluff, and I find your graphics and screen shots super helpful! The Gremlins you note are especially beneficial because people don’t realize how many hiccups they will encounter while using Genie+ in the parks. That was the case for me the first time I used it. By the way, the experience you had with Mickey and Minnie was worth the price of admission! How did you get them to do that? That was super cute! Also, the food you orders looks so delicious! I do have a bunch of questions 🤔! What would be your Genie+ order if rain was not part of the forecast? Would people in standing in the standby line, when a ride breaks down, get a bonus Lightning Lane experience pass without having booked a ride through Genie+? Where did you get your cute rain jacket?what brand is it? Loved your coordinating ears you wore with it, too! What park would you hop to, from Animal Kingdom?

For me, the only thing I would change in the order is I would do Everest later in the day because it is my favorite ride so it’s nice to have a fun ride to look forward to. That said, it tends to have a somewhat short wait later in the day as people hop to other parks. It is up to cast members’ discretion when they give folks in the standby queue a bonus Lightning Lane. I have seen it happen, but it is not common and usually happens just for people who were really close to boarding. For Genie Plus, they always give it to you. The Tiki Room rain jacket can be bought in the parks right now. I got mine on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood Studios. Thanks for the compliment! As for park hopping from DAK, I always suggest Magic Kingdom since it usually closes two hours later than the other parks and has so much to do that it can be hard to fit in one day. I'm heading to Disney World for the first time with a party of 7. From what I gather, Disney slots means you need to walk around the park to hit the popular rides and then you can mellow out and book shows and smaller rides at your leisure. If this is incorrect, please let me know. And, do the rides have a parent swap when you have young kids that can't ride?

When you explained how to cancel some members of the party and how you had to press cancel, before you said, “it can be scary to do this.” Right before you said that, I felt a small wave of anxiety 😆🤣. But you said don’t worry and I laughed because you read my mind 😂🤣. As far as your socks in a plastic bag idea- that’s definitely a good one. I was also going to say I’ve got a similar tip; I pack a pair of flip flops in my bag so I can wear them specifically on water rides. I change into them and put a poncho on before the water rides so I’m not going to be wet all day long. I put my tennis shoes in a disposable shower cap so I won’t get debris from my shoes on the other items in my bag. When I’m done with my water ride, I grab my tennis shoes out of the shower cap and put the flip flops into the same shower cap and I’m ready to continue my day, soggy shoe and sock free 😊👍.

I had a question about the gremlin for the 8am slot. Since it’s by chance we’ll get a redemption pass, is it worth screen capturing and then waiting in line when you get to the park to get a redemption pass? I imagine 7AM I get the gremlin for 8AM slot. At that moment, do I screen capture, close the app, then walk over to the park, wait in line, tell them what happened and then hopefully we get a pass? THEN I book another ride? I almost feel like it’s not worth it if the line is long to talk to guest services. Preparing for the worst scenario and also my impatience BF who probably will question this method.

Hi Alex! I recommend quickly screenshotting it and then booking another LL asap. When you get to the park, go immediately to Guest Relations which is near the entrance and ask them very kindly if they can help you with the LL you lost. You might get lucky as we did and end up better off than you were had you not gotten the gremlin. 😂 Thanks for watching! 😃

If you were going to AK, planned to rope drop, had DAS, and had reservations at Tusker House at 8:15am…. Is there anything that you think you could accomplish within that short amount of time? 😅😅😅

Do you have early entry? If yes, then definitely. You could do Na’vi River Journey easily if you were there a little before the early entry rope drop. If not, I’d say your best bet would be to check out some of the animal exhibits on your way into the park and grab a DAS return time for Flight of Passage. That way you can use the time you’re eating breakfast to wait in the longest virtual line in the park. Hope that helps!

Fortunately, we were able to purchase it at the same time we booked our tickets. I had DREADED using this until I came across your videos shortly before this trip. You have been a God-send! What originally had been dreaded has now become just fine. Genie Plus was one of my reasons for not wanting to renew my AP , as we travel from 1/2 country away, and after visiting WDW for 50 years I didn’t want to learn yet another Disney implemented system. The gremlin screen could come up for any reason I think screen shot-ing and waiting at guest relations takes not only time from cast members and my day it's not worth the hassle to try to get extra passes. If everyone heeded this instruction it would be extra headaches all around. Can someone do it? Yes. But if everyone did it it would be an issue. It could gremlin for many reasons. That screen isn't a guarantee.

Thanks so much for watching! Definitely I would recommend staying in one group. If you split up, it will be difficult to book rides at the same time and you are not penalized for having a large group like you were with FastPass. The same reservations show up for everyone, whether you are a party of 1 or a party of 12 (which is the max). Hope that helps!

Great question: the max is currently 12 and the good news is that party size does not affect your ability to find and book the same Lightning Lanes as everyone else. This was not the same with FastPass and it is one of the few improvements over the old system. Thanks for watching!

Hello! Great question. You USED to have to play the slots until you got a time you liked. Now, with the ability to modify, you can book the best you can get and then modify to play the slots and try to get something better. I think this video was before we could modify. Thanks for watching! 😃

Question: do you recommend playing the slots again if the Genie + give your the ride you want, but not at the time slot you want? Is it risky to lose it? Hello! I sometimes dream about Genie Plus, too. 😂 The only times I will typically take the first time I get is right at 7am when everyone is grabbing their first Lightning Lane or if I happen to get a great return time right away (a time that is within 30 minutes or so). Otherwise, I will click on “edit selections” on the top board and choose a couple of rides I want to focus on, then I’ll refresh for at least five minutes (ie playing the Genie Slots) before I give up on getting a better time. As with real slots, sometimes I decide to cut my losses after several minutes of times getting worse and worse, but I would say that is the exception rather than the rule - I almost always get a great return time with a little patience. Hey Jolene - I don’t have a map, but they’re both pretty easy to find as long as you’re walking on the path from Africa into Asia. You’ll see that the road forks and you’ll go to the right for the tree of life view. Just keep right until you see a path that goes to your right down by the water. The seating area is also easy, just go to the left where the road forks and it’s just ahead on the left. Hope you have a great time at Animal Kingdom!

If I get a genie+ reservation for the 10 people in my group and 2 don’t want to ride, will I be able to make another Genie+ reservation for the entire 10 of us after the 8 of us ride, or will that push us into the 120 rule?

Good question. So if you book a Lightning Lane for 10 people and 2 don’t want to ride, you can cancel for those two. Just tap into the Lightning Lane and click the link that says cancel. It will let you choose who you want to cancel for. At this point, those two could book something else. If you want everyone to ride together again, they need to either not book something else or book something and use it before you book the next ride for all 10. What is your suggestion for Avatar Flight of Passage if you are not staying on Disney property? Rope drop or wait a few hours?

Hi Samuel! I don’t recommend rope dropping FOP if you aren’t there for early entry. My preference is actually to make it the last thing you do. As long as you are in line 1 minute before park close, you can ride. As a bonus, Pandora looks absolutely stunning at night. I’d rope drop Kilimanjaro Safaris or Everest instead. When playing the slot how do I know that the time I got is a good or amazing times don’t I just pick the first one that pops up

Hi Danny! Much like real slots, knowing when to stop playing is the key and it’s really hard to know for sure. My rule of thumb is that if it is a slow day, I aim for less than 30 minutes from the time I book to the beginning of the return time (5-15 for less popular attractions). If it is an average day, 30 minutes to and hour is good, but I’ll try to get closer to 30 if I can. For really busy days when the return time starts out many hours away, I’ll just aim for less than 2 hours so at least I’m doing better than if I used the 2 hour rule. Good luck! 🍀🧞‍♂️🎰

Hi , how do you book your lightening lanes etc when your planning to park hop, do you have to wait until you’ve hopped to your second park before you try and get your lightening lanes and or virtual lines, I have bookings for Hollywood studios and then MK, but on both days I’m planning to hop to Epcot and then hop next day from MK to AK but I’m very unsure how to get on those rides in my hopper parks, hope that makes sense. Hi Sharon! You can start booking for any park you wish at any time. The catch is that booking in your second park of the day is a bit more complicated. Your tip board will be set to the park where you have a reservation and the trick of editing your selections to show select rides at the top of your list only works in that park. You have to manually switch to the other park and you have to select all the people you want to include in the reservation each time you book. It won’t have everyone automatically set like it does in your first park. For this reason, we recommend using the tap-in, tap-out method of playing the Genie Slots when you are booking for the second park. You can see a demonstration/explanation of that toward the end of the 27 tips video or the Epcot and Hollywood Studios genie videos as we use that technique in those. Better than socks: Water shoes. They're light, easily packable and will save your day. If it's going to rain or you're going on a water ride, just swap those on, and put your shoes and socks in your dry backpack so they stay that way.

I love this idea! I’ve started packing sandals for the water rides and that works, but they’re too bulky. I’m thinking about investing in some cheap and lightweight flip-flops and give that a whirl. The good thing about water shoes or good sandals is that you can wear them for longer periods if it floods/monsoons. Thanks for sharing this tip! 😃

@@EarScouts Agreed! I've worn the water shoes for hours in the park and been pretty okay. I'd definitely recommend some that have drain holes in the soles. The Disney water can get pretty deep in places, especially during prolonged downpours. I've also stayed away from sandals just for the walkability of a shoe. I can't keep wet sandals from slipping off my feet when I walk because I have ridiculous clown feet. But shoes have no such limitations for me. I sometimes even wear a pair of thin wool merino socks with water shoes, as they provide a bit of a buffer and keep my feet from getting too cold when they're wet for extended time periods and prevent blisters.

Do you ride Flight of Passage standby?

We almost always ride Flight of Passage standby as the last ride of the night. When you get in line just a minute or two before park close, they will let you stay as long as it takes to ride (so long as the ride doesn't break down, but this is rare with FOP). Plus, the wait time is almost always inflated right before park close. You can't guarantee it, but it will usually be about half of whatever is posted. This is something they do to prevent loads of people from getting in the most popular queues in the park right before close.

Thank you Thank you Thank you. We just got back from Disney and your videos have been so helpful. I watched the 27 tips one before going and then rewatched and then watched the Magic Kingdom video. You do a great job showing us the app and what it looks like. I do wish I had seen this one before we started our experience because I had that gremlin Day One at 7 am trying to book the first Lightning Lane. It all worked out but I think your tips would have helped me not panic. I do have a question we considered. We have a party of four and often playing the slots our times never changed at all. Admittedly we didn't have your patience and would usually just take the time offered and then work a schedule around it. We never had trouble getting done what we wanted. Do you think you get better times based on a smaller party size? You usually have a group of two. We booked Kali for our kids only because we didn't want to get wet and had no issues. Just wondering you thoughts. PLEASE KEEP DOING THESE VIDEOS THEY ARE GREAT!!!!

He stressed me out and I live here. 🤣 Unlike the old FastPass system, Genie is not affected by party size. It really is just based on how much time you want to spend refreshing and there are times when it seems like it won’t budge (though it almost always will…eventually). The key is to find that balance. If you got everything you wanted to get done, it sounds like you got that balance right. No need to stare at your iPhone screen any longer than you have to. 😆 Thanks again for watching - so glad to hear you had a good trip!

I always try to do the Individual Attraction Lightning Lane that is not available with Genie Plus during early entry, so that would leave the rides you can get with the Genie for later in the day. Hi Charlotte! My best tip would probably be persistence. When I know I want to eat somewhere, I will pop open the My Disney Experience app a few times a day whenever I have some down time and pull up the restaurant. It’s easier to check available times by looking up the restaurant and checking availability rather than clicking on dates and browsing through all the restaurants that are available. People cancel reservations all the time, so it’s just a matter of being on the app when one has come available. I tend to have the most luck closer to the date because a lot of people cancel somewhat last minute. Hope that helps!

It depends. If you have early park entry, I’d recommend rope dropping the ride you can’t get with Genie Plus (Mine Train, Rise of the Resistance, Flight of Passage). If you don’t have early entry, I don’t see a huge benefit to not grabbing a LL right at park open and using it right away so you can book the next. Most rides will already have a line from the early entry guests, so they will still take longer to ride than using a LL. The possible exception to that would be Magic Kingdom where much of the park isn’t open for early entry, but I still used LL for Jungle Cruise in our MK Genie video and was on the very first boat. I would have had a ten minute or so wait without LL, which is still great for Jungle Cruise, but not as good as what I got with my LL. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for watching!
