yeah, sadly it's completly impossible. Especially in the american landcape. In the end it's a company that produces a product that consumers judge. No matter the content people will project onto and interpred it, according to their agenda. Disney as a company is directly impacted by political descisions, be it landownership in florida, be it taxes/subsidies, or immigration laws. So naturally those in charge will try to navigate and manipulate to their advantage/ damage reduction. It's money tthat keeps a company alive, it just so happens that making people enjoy themselves makes them give you more of their money for it. Also a huge amount of people in america don't even seem to have a general idea anymore of what "right the problems of the world" is. Now it's about who disrespects and lies the most and elect that product of their hate as their leader. It's not about solutions, it's not even about problems, but just "feelings". The drama around Rachel proves this perfectly.

Politics and personalities aside, I wouldn't touch this movie with a ten-foot pole. The trailer looked dark, the CGI looked awful, and the new details of the plot sound dreadful. One of the first clips I saw was the new Whistle While You Work video. In the clip Snow White assigns tasks to the seven hard-working men and sings while they clean the cottage. In the original, she worked alongside the animals in hopes that she would earn her keep. It was visually dreadful and the entitled imagery of a princess who puts the already hard-working residents to work was off-putting. On a positive note, Rachel has a great voice but it's not enough to draw me to the theater or even Disney+.

Releasing this movie will hurt the Disney brand and the legacy of Snow White. I won't go see this movie in theaters. I don't feel comfortable financially supporting a production that hates me. I may watch it on Disney+ or if there's a free viewing like on a cruise ship out of morbid curiosity, however I'm not sure I want to allow this movie to ever enter my consciousness even under those circumstances.
@raymondboe8247Күн бұрын
I think if Disney wants to strengthen their brand. They should scrap this movie, apologize, and launch a celebration for the original animated film with an 4k UHD steelbook release designed like the opening scene storybook, other merchandise, park integration, etc. You can take my idea for free Disney, you're welcome.

Last year and I want to say it was when the new haunted Mansion movie with Danny DeVito was in the movie house maybe or maybe it was the spring another movie but they ran the trailer for Snow White. As soon as I heard the hi-ho I went. Oh no, I said out loud. Oh no!... There's a saying "if it ain't baroque don't fix it". They don't have any new ideas and they're rehashing old ones and destroying them. When it's a cartoon, there's no realism. You know it's a cartoon. And they start putting people in there. You're giving these fantasy Legends these grim fairy tales real faces. And they were Grimm tales. Disney needs somebody new to jump in there and start throwing out realistic ideas.

I loves me some Disney: give me the parks, the animations, Star Wars, Marvel… I’m down for it all and I do my best to don’t complain. I LOVED taking my kids to Disneyland the past couple years for their first and subsequent trips, and I love sitting down for family movie night where we fire up the Disney+ and bust out the classics. With that said I’ve had a harder time introducing my kids to some of the newer stuff. Live action just isn’t the same, and I feel like the quality of the story telling has been compromised… I can’t figure out if it’s a lack of new creativity or some sort of PC agenda that doesn’t match the core of the Disney fan base. Whatever it is I wish they’d come up with the next innovation rather than just redoing that which has already been done. My family and I are going out to Moana 2, we’re excited for Skeleton Crew, but we won’t be doing live action Snow White.

It's been pointed out by a few that that "appology" of Zegler's was correctly punctuated and capitalised, whereas most of her posts are all lower case, suggesting it was written for her, probably by Disney

The problem with anything Disney these days is no one trust anything they make because if you do not like it they call you names and say you are a bigot, whatever happened to just not liking something, plus Disney has outpriced almost everyone from enjoying anything Disney, There stuff in the stores comes from countries that pay kids to make the product at pennies a day for labor and then they sell in Disney stores for really nothing under 40.00 dollars. I grew up with Disney everything was Mickey Mouse, Disneyland etc grew up in Garden Grove so I am all about Disney, But Disney these days is very not Disney, Not the movies not the parks not the merch, it is so sad how and what Disney has become. I still Love Disney but do not love the management. Still keep renewing my key every year though.

You’ve applied the 2.5 multiplier incorrectly. That does indicate how much box office is needed to break even, but it’s not the size of the budget. On average, the studio only gets around 50% of the box office-the other half goes to distributors and theaters. So the box office needs to be double the budget for Disney to break even. On top of that is the marketing costs, and that’s why the multiplier is 2.5x or 3x the production budget instead of 2x.

She definitely could have chosen her words more carefully when explaining that they were modernizing a 90 year old movie. She definitely has lacked the filter one needs when representing all audiences Disney properties. But to say that people didn’t object to her casting before that is ignoring something pretty significant I think. Lot of a certain type of person was waiting to pounce on any misstep she made, and unfortunately she provided them.

Disney has lots of modern day problems like this and Snow White is going to prove the error of their ways. I'm glad you are expanding your horizon and looking into these things now Mr Provost. I enjoy your content. I love old school Disney stuff. But the company is going down the wrong path.

First: great journalism Chris. You are a much better reporter than a lot of talking heads that one can see in news channels. Second: (as a Disney's big fan), it is a big opportunity to get rid of all producers, writers, directors, etc. that , being protected by their own wooke bubble, has produced really bad films such as Lighyear, Jungle Cruise, that one about an all inclusive group that nobody watched, etc. I am not planning to see "live" Snowwhite

A big no, I won't be watching this film. Disney should not have messed around w/ the original Snow White for so many reasons. I saw some of the trailer on another channel. Even w/o knowing the controversies surrounding the film, the trailer made me cringe...the human characters, the CGI characters...just no! Like many others, I think Disney should be creating new stories. They certainly have some of the best talent in the world working there. And, in the future, maybe they should be a little more careful about who they hire to play an iconic character. Disney should put this film 'in the vault', as it were, but I don't think they will if they have already announced March 21 as the premier.

Our family will not be watching Disneys live action version of Snow White. As a parent & educator I feel it’s important to lead by example. Many of the people in Hollywood are sharing their political & personal views in a manner that’s been unnecessarily vicious towards others. Disney needs to get back to the days where the actors & actresses they hire & support set the standards for others. Disney patrons needs to remind them their words come with consequences & to think before they speak or share with the world. We need to focus on sending the right message to the children of today & future generations. I don’t have to agree with your views to appreciate your talents in the workplace but I will not support a message of hate regardless of which side of the aisle you sit on. Kindness costs nothing to give but is worth its weight in gold. Chris, to both you & your wife, thank you for leading by example for your viewers & others. 😊

Thank you for a very good post, Chris! Regarding the movie: I agree with those who have said that Disney should stop and cut its losses. Maybe they can use some of that money to have a "What Can We Learn From This" retreat with some psychologists and anthropologists who understand people. The company loves to use quotes from Walt Disney when it helps them make more money but they need to reexamine how he treated his stars and what he expected of them in public. He held them accountable but today's company seems to be afraid to do that.

The thing about this film is that it doesn’t need to be good and it can be controversial and it doesn’t matter if it gets much of an audience. It is 100% about “evergreening” the artistic visuals to keep Snow White out of Public Domain as the copyright expires in 2032. That is 8 years away! I don’t think it matters how much it is going to cost. But it does need to be released.

I want to see a finished product even if it’s going to underperform. Not because I’m expecting anything fantastic but more cause it’s going to be interesting to see what all this chaos built up to. If it never comes out we’re just going to forever wonder and it’ll be lost media and I don’t like things being lost to time. People went in wanting to dislike Ziegler in the role just cause the ethnicity thing (personally I thought it was an overreaction, especially since the 2012 Blancanieves already had a Latina Snow White), then it went thermonuclear when she gave people reasons to be fiercely opposed to her specifically in the role (by bashing the original which is just a bad idea to put it mildly). THEN there was the Dinklage fiasco (sorry, dude, but the dwarves don’t live in a cave. If you’re going to bash the classic at least know your facts lol) and Disney changing the dwarves to a merry band of misfits or something to appease his outrage… Only to spent a ton to retool it with CGI dwarves? What a mess! That had to have cost Disney hundreds of millions. Also we’ve seen this all unfold before. WB’s Flash movie bombed, given much they sunk into it only for the lead actor Ezra Miller being a worse scandal generator than even Rachel (she never did anything criminal or violent like he did). Funny thing is, I actually really like Rachel Ziegler as Lucy Gray in the Hunger Games Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. She actually would have been a perfect casting choice for Esmeralda (Lucy Gray was basically if Esmeralda were in THG). It would’ve even made the activist talk she does at least track for the role. With Snow White we don’t expect this ambitious, headstrong queen in waiting… we expect a lighthearted and kind-spirited girl who makes friends with everyone and who is cheerful and caring. We don’t need to force her to be someone she’s not. It’s an over correction to imply that there was something wrong with her being focused on friendship and simple acts of kindness in the first place when there wasn’t. Also Lily Collin’s Snow White in Mirror Mirror already struck a great balance by being smart and capable while being cheerful and sweet. Disney’s new remake isn’t even reinventing the wheel in terms of giving Snow White a little bit of edge. If anything maybe it’ll discourage Disney from the remakes. I don’t hate the remakes. Most are okay (Cinderella’s the only one that’s on par with the original), but none of the live action remakes are particularly necessary since the original Disney versions are fantastic.
