Friendly reminder that typically, animated films do not cost 300 million to make. Puss in boots had a budget of 120m and Into the Spiderverse had one of 90m. Wild robot was only 78m. 200m+ for an animated film is just ridiculous.
@KeyofM5521 күн бұрын
Yeah, and considering Disney paid nearly 200 million for 8 30 minute episodes of the Acolyte, I'm thinking some live actions aren't so budget friendly after all Not to mention they're still animating for the majority of these "live actions", it's just in a more realistic CGI
@icecreamhero237521 күн бұрын
To be fair: Disney and Pixar always strove to be the best of the best and literally invent new 3d technology every time they make a movie. That 3d technology eventually gets passed on to other companies. For example, in the first Incredibles, they figured out how to make 3d skin look good. When making Original Toy Story they used the humans sparingly because they looked plasticy. Historically Disney has been innovating in the field of animation since day 1. I think that is why the budgets are so big. Also, they usually make their money back look at Inside Out 2.
@KeyofM5521 күн бұрын
@@icecreamhero2375 True, but imo the innovation ended at Encanto (when they animated 16 different types of hair which is mad impressive). The recent movies, like Lightyear, Strange World, and even Elemental felt more like stuff they've already done. Also, with the exception of Elemental, all those movies flopped. At this point, I'm not sure where their money is going.
@chrisproductions626221 күн бұрын
Producers and Shareholders think that pushing more money on Animation will make it better, when in reality it'll either end in disaster or be the best thing since Disney's first feature film. Artists always work their best when we have limitations, we always focus on what we can do with the budget we have to make something amazing rather than demanding more.
@icecreamhero237521 күн бұрын
@@chrisproductions6262 I think in Disney's case it does because they pass down the technology they make to make the movies down to other companies eventually. Also Animators are underpaid. They don't need less money. The money needs to be spent better.

Actually and suprisingly, the 101 Dalmatians live action was released in 1996 with a DVD Sequel in 2002 i think. I consider it to actually be a really good live action. But heres the thing, when they were making it, the creators werent calling it a "Live Action copy". They genuinley made a new original story that focused more on the human storyline with Roger being a video game desighner and Anita having Cruella as her boss. It was quite mature too and didnt speak down to it's audience due to it taking away any dialouge between the dogs. Plus, the frickin doctor House plays the guy that kidnaps the puppies so that's a win. Lol.

Same with the lion king. It wasnt made in secret but was made to be something as a filler before Pokahontas. Pokahontas flopped due to its misrepresentation of culture and boring story, lion king is remembered as a classic. I do want to see more of scar in an aside miniseries, cos it doesn't make sense how he went from a soyboy to a scheming psychopath in the original. They take a lot of inspiration from Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet, who not try modern prose like Streetcar named Desire (good interpretation of somebody hiding themselves in a veil of lies and being destroyed as they are unravelled, Scar could be amazing if he was inspired by Blanche).
@marcellalong20 күн бұрын
@inventorofideas7604 so what I vaguely remember about the original story is that Scar's actual name was Taka, meaning garbage or waste. His name Scar only came after he got his big one from... I want to say a hunting accident. I mean, if my parents named me trash, I wouldn't be happy.
@inventorofideas760420 күн бұрын
@marcellalong true. In the film the scar comes from defending mufasa, which is poignant since scar chooses to save him despite gunning for the position of king, which he will not do in the future. I mean he was born the runt of the litter, and was hated by his father for not fulfilling his perfect image of king. Scar's father is fully responsible for who he became imo, he approved of his cowardice and grew that entitlement that he will be king. Mufasa remained humble, and that's what made him brave, compassionate and empathetic.

Let me just comment on something... Disney is already going into the ground at this point because of all their attempts to get some of the old glory of the old days (early 2000's) because back then they wanted to genuinely make good stories, good films, the business was made for the actual giving of entertainment. Right now? It's nothing more than them trying just to grab more money, some of the live action remakes were actually good and golden pieces, the first batch was good, but then they started to milk it dry and keep on remaking more live actions, why? Cuz they HOPE that people will somehow feel the "magic" given into those old movies and show love to the live remakes... It's a shameful money grab... And Sequels? That's them trying to earn more money in the same idea, they lost their imagination and now are trying to stay afloat by making these half-baked (garbage) originals, bad sequels and live remakes... Honestly, I'm loosing hope for any more future Disney projects...

The difference between the live action Alice and Wonderland and the current state of live action Disney films is Tim Burten and Johnny Depp were attached to the live action Alice in Wonderland. Burten and Depp brought something new and fresh to the story while respecting the original. These new live action Disney films don't do that.

I think if they are really just wanting to do the live action stuff. The only one that really could actually be good is the Hunchback of Notre Dame, there's some untapped potential from the OG that could be explored better in a live action setting due to it not seeming it's aimed for kids. (Then again, they could just ruin it, idk.)
@inventorofideas760420 күн бұрын
They did with the sequel. Brother Bear would be extremely good if the context was changed to be more of a thriller than a musical. Loved the film but Phil Collins was not good in it.

If Disney could focus in good old school stories.. about traditional families.. about Christian concepts.. Heroes vs villains..go back to what worked . Stop putting politics into their movies , no current events.. Remember people want to escape this world and its problems. Have stores about other stuff.. anything else but what's going on in this world

@@inventorofideas7604 Yeah, Mufasa wasn't woke, but it didn't really try anything new. After all the woke flops, my opinion is that Disney is a bit nervous to go beyond existing IP and try something new. Hence the sequels and prequels

It's not like Disney hasn't gone through the "sequel era" before. Now people claim all those direct-to-DVD sequels are good. Hardly the reason they're falling off.

One of the first Disney sequels that went direct-to-video was Cinderella 2 It came out along with a few other animated sequels so Cinderella 2 was glossed over and no-one remembers it but if any of you ever get a chance to watch it, I highly recommend it 💙💖👗

tbf Zootopia fans realy really ASKED for a sequel because the ending really just felt like the beginning of Judy's and Nick's adventures. I am worried what they will do with it, because the world-building can be easily broken into something that the most die-hard fans will hate like if they disprove the possibility of Judy and Nick dating, or introduce new animals without giving good explanation how or why they weren't present in the first movie.

I kind of love the live action Alice in Wonderland films, and the Jungle Book live action Movie was also really good too. To me, I think Disney thought they can put less effort into their Live Action stuff, so instead of getting directors who can work within Limitations to create fun and amazing works, they hire directors who know how to pump out low tier garbage in less than 3 years and spend as little money as possible Alice in Wonderland, Through The Looking Glass and Jungle Book are the only 3 live action Remake Films from Disney that are any good, in my opinion.

im genuinely saddened by their choice to make Wish the 100th anniversary movie celebration. like, i get that going back to the type of animation Disney is known for would be really expensive, but like, thats YOUR 100TH BRITHDAY! it would be so much more appropriate to celebrate something so HUGE AND LONG-LASTING with something that youre MOST KNOWN FOR TO BE THE HEART OF YOUR COMPANY

I for one also feel worried about the direction of Disney with them milking existing franchises, although one spinoff I would like them to make is Metro: A spinoff of the Cars series based on the NYC Subway. This movie was in the works during the mid 2010s, but was canceled due to the poor performance of Planes Fire and Rescue, with concept art of the film being leaked in 2022. Since there isn't a Cars like movie for trains other than the Polar Express (seasonal) and Thomas the Tank Engine (arguably a kids show), Metro would combine the trains community with the Disney Pixar Cars Fandom, thus resulting in potentially the highest grossing film for Disney by giving the train community a movie that they can relate to, in addition to portraying public transit in a more positive light by showcasing its benefits to billions of people who don't live in cities.

The only Disney sequel I *love* loved is Bambi 2. TLK 2 was good, not as high quality as TLK 1 imo but also not nearly as moving as Bambi 2. Bambi 2 had the charm and heart of a classic Disney tale and that's why I love it soo much
