Rachel Made her disaster interview almost 2 years ago. Disney has had that long to very publicly fire her, to buy some good will and open the door for a tax write off, like they did with Batgirl. Cash out and very publicly say "We are really tired of actors tanking our investments for their egos. So we are tanking her ego, with our investment. To recoup our losses we are rereleasing the original animated feature in theatres." Then they print money and win. But that aint what they are gonna do.

I haven't heard any commentator mention the most important moral of the 1937 film. True beauty is within. The evil queen is beautiful outside but rotten within, so she ages and loses her beauty. Snow White survives and triumphs because of her inner qualities. The most important being kindness. The man commissioned to kill her doesn't because of her inner qualities. The 7 dwarfs initially are going to get rid of her until her inner qualities and willingness to work hard become clear. The entire story arc is pitched around these ideas. Snow White even becomes more beautiful in the eyes of the dwarves after they get to know her inner qualities. Feminine qualities and traditional skill sets are disparaged by everyone today, but they are qualities of greatness and within everyone's grasp. Snow White is gentle and kind. She knows how to make a house into a home, and her loving nature is powerfully transformative. We know that when Snow White becomes a queen in her own right, she will do good for the kingdom that marrying the prince will eventually bring her.

Peter Dinklage really ticked me off with that whole thing. He seems to forget that him becoming a mainstream actor as a dwarf was so rare that it's really never even been done before. Other dwarf actors have to take roles specifically for dwarves, which are few and far between. And it would have been the highlight of their careers for 7 of them to get roles in a big budget Disney movie, and he completely blew it for them. He's an arrogant schmuck who's completely forgotten where he started.

They remain timeless bc human struggles don’t change. They change place and time, but hunger and fear are felt the same way. And so is hope. So it’s pointless to modernize fairy tales--they are timeless bc they deal with human struggles, not with agendas. Walt knew how to capture humanity. His company today only wants money, so if HR says filling diversify boxes with give them money, Disney will do that. It’s not about telling stories anymore. “Wish” is what Disney is today: a failure.

I grew up in an abusive home, and I remember watching Snow White and connecting with her kindness. No matter how much evil and unfairness was thrown at her, she never lost her heart and her love for others. This was something that I was not taught within my home, but it inspired me to push through and spread kindness towards others. I would even follow my mom around in stores and apologize to people who she was rude to and thank them for their help. In a world where everyone is divided and we are so ready to jump down everyone's throats over any perceived slight, a character who reminds us how much power kindness holds would go a long way, so of course, Disney has to change her.
@skimt781814 күн бұрын
I find it ironic that these modern adaptations claim to “empower” women by stripping away the very qualities that once made characters like Snow White strong in a more nuanced, feminine way. The original Snow White showed her courage through kindness, nurturing, and emotional resilience. She didn’t need to reject men or act “tough” to overcome adversity; her compassion and empathy were her superpowers. By insisting Snow White must now become a “girl boss who doesn’t need anyone,” the filmmakers seem to imply that gentleness and warmth are signs of weakness. But isn’t that the real misogyny? Treating traditionally feminine traits-like caring for others or showing vulnerability-as somehow lesser? It sends a message that a woman can’t be strong while also embodying those qualities. Moreover, it’s frustrating when any criticism of these changes gets dismissed as “misogynistic.” Wanting to preserve a beloved character’s original strengths and personality is not the same as wanting women to be weak or dependent. Rather, it’s pointing out that true empowerment means allowing women to be fully realized individuals-yes, even women who are nurturing and, sometimes, want love in their lives. Simply put, these adaptations often reduce “feminism” to a rejection of all things traditionally feminine, which ironically undercuts the idea of celebrating women for who they really are. Characters like the original Snow White did triumph through love and kindness. If modern filmmakers truly want to empower female characters, they should celebrate those traits instead of throwing them away.

Hear hear. I agree 100% with your comment. There are traits that these people don't seem to understand or realise the true potential. Corporate disney literally was built on this original movie. So much so that it's headquarters was built to remind them of it! But current management HATES Walt and Roy, so they do whatever they can to destroy what he built. Feelling that THEY know better than he did. In the movie the magic mirror NEVER said Snow was the prettiest or most beautiful in the land, it said she was the FAIREST in the land. It was the evil queen that took that to mean external beauty. Snow had an inner beauty that was even stronger than her outer beauty. All who came in contact with her felt it. From the Queen, it made her mad with jealousy, the huntsman sent to kill her, who was said to be ruthless, felt it and rather than kill her warned her, sent her away, and lied to the queen to try to protect her. The animals who knew to stay away from humans still came to her and then lead her to the dwarfs home. The prince who saw her and fell in love with her from the very moment he was with her, to the dwarfes themselves. Who from Doc to even grumpy, came to give up their old lives to improve themselves because of her. Zegler called the prince a stalker. He wasn't. The backstory that was changed became that he went back to the castle to find her, was told she was gone and went to search for her. Only finding her in a glass casket, thought to be dead, by all. He then gave her a love's true kiss of goodbye. But that woke her up. Not as Zegler and corporate disney was trying to push, that he forced himself on her. They rode off together because she loved him and her loved her, NOT that he saved her because he didn't She saved everybody by changing them into being better than they were.

This recent fascination with "girl boss" in America (esp. media meant for children) worries me. I work with kids in the mental health field and I honestly think that the *classic* Disney princesses were better role models for young girls, compared to what we're getting now. Children are not trying emulate kind princesses who earn respect through tribulation/suffering, but instead think that you need to be a "boss" for others to like you. And unfortunately, being a "boss" means being #1, being controlling of other people's behavior and then thinking that anyone who is disagreeing with you (or doesn't want to play with you) must be in the wrong. So I end up working with girls as young as 9 years-old who may grow up to be neurotic narcissists. I know this video is about Disney, but to this day they remain the go-to producer of movies for kids that parents will always put on. Of course, they're not the only one's responsible. The celebrity worship, the fascination with the fake world of social media, and the concerning admiration for KZbinrs/TikTokers are also important factors. I just bring it up here because I really don't think what Disney is doing right now is producing good media for children. It honestly feels like it's made by adults and for adults who hated their controlling parents or felt jilted by society in some way. Few of these remakes feel like they were done for the love of the craft or the story. Instead, they're just petty revenge stories and middle fingers to the rest of the world.

Snow White was a girl boss. She was completely innocent yet escaped multiple m^rder attempts, the unknown wilderness at night, evil curses, and temporary death. Yet she remained sweet, kind, endlessly hard working, optimistic, and loving through her extreme trauma. She remained pure, good, compassionate, and giving. But yeah, making the red-haired Danish girl into a black mermaid was... odd. It's like making a Black Panther remake deep in Africa in a few years but making the protagonist a white guy with red hair, stating: "My parents named me black... because I was born... in the darkness..." And then all the people in the African tribe being inclusive, from white to Asian to Black and at least half of them identify as a different race or gender.

Instead of watching the remake, have your kids watch the OG Snow White, it STILL holds up today and sets good precedence for your daughters - you don't HAVE to be a girlboss to be awesome and fantastic, you don't HAVE to look down on romance to be completely happy. Not all of us wants to be a successful CEO of a company surrounded by money, do you have to be incredibly successful in order to be happy? HELL no! Success is subjective. It just so happens 100 years ago people were dealing with actual struggle so they understood what it meant to actual overcome. Because they lived it.
@sandyberger-r9j14 күн бұрын
No, no, no- feminism was never about hating men, but about being treated fairly, like getting the same wages for the same work. My mom worked as a photographer and got just a fraction of the money her male colleague earned because he was a man and she would marry. That’s what feminism wanted to change. Up to today, the gender pay gap still exists and women are worse off if the couple has children. It’s usually the mother who puts her career on the back burner and if the man divorces her because the children are grown up, she gets no financial support because she can work, but her ex husband is in a much better position due to his experience.

I'm currently a cast member at Disneyland, and while I'm not a part of entertainment and characters, I'm somewhat known in my work area as the (work area)'s designated Snow White. They know how much I love the movie and its history, and when I dress up as her at cons and expos I get nothing but compliments at how accurately I look and sound like her. I've even had guests at work approach me asking if I play her despite not being dressed as her. As much as I am aware that Walt didn't want Snow White to be remade or altered, I'll be honest, if I ever had so much as a chance to audition for the role, I would've been bawling my eyes out, praying I could portray the character as close to what Walt would've approved as possible. Heck, I wouldn't have cared if I had a near-minimum paycheck if it helped create a better movie. But no... Instead...this whiney, self centered, egotistical brat is the chosen one, bashing on the film she is starring in and tearing down everything this movie represented in her path. Demanding she be paid "for every minute this movie is streamed" while joking about her co-star's scenes be cut. I've now went through the sad phase, passed the disappointed phase and have now reached a point where I see this film with nothingness. Truly, it's ironic that a title that was a major historical moment for Disney in the win will now possibly become a historical loss for them.

Dont know if you're still gaming at all, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Horizon series and Aloy. Whenever the modern girlboss is brought up, I always think of her and how she is, at least to me, almost the reverse of the trope if you get what I mean. At least currently. Aloy in Zero Dawn is very much a 'girlboss' in a way. Strong, perfect, doing almost everything on her own. However what interests me is the fact she is kinda forced to be this way in her upbringing in the story. Being born an outcast and shunned her whole life has kinda turned her into the 'modern girlboss' trope. But as the story progresses and especially in Forbidden West, she learns that she can't do everything on her own. She needs allies, friends even in order to help her. She isn't perfect at all, despite being pretty much raised that way out of necessity, you know? And some plot points that say she's the one and only person who can save the world. She's the reverse girlboss in my opinion, and I love hearing how others view her as well. And I hope they continue on this path with the character in the third game.

The more I think about it... Disney had the perfect chance to honor Snow White and make it better, by giving the dwarfs more depth and character, but instead, they’ve erased what made them memorable. They didn’t need to rewrite the whole narrative-just a few subtle touches could’ve made all the difference. A sly smirk here, a clever glance there, or an unexpected moment of resourcefulness would’ve turned them into standout characters while keeping the charm of the original. Imagine leaving the cinema thinking, “Those dwarfs deserve their own origin movie,” instead of cringing at a lifeless, overly cautious adaptation. Can you imagine? "Dwarfs: The 7 Origins" - show us where they came from, what banded them together, why they're mining, what pasts shaped them into their narrative characters. What made the original great wasn’t just the simplicity-it was the heart, humor, and relatability of its characters. Disney could’ve kept that magic while layering in more substance, giving each dwarf their own unique strengths and a bigger role in the story. By taking a more addative approach, they could’ve created something audiences would remember and celebrate, not something they want to forget. Instead, they went full-on woke and inclusive, destroying potentially billions of USD in potential ongoing revenue for decades to come. I'm not sad about that, I'm just astonished at how dumb they are over there at Disney.

The mention of male character being hard to animate is simply not true, as real people were first filmed and literally traced frame by frame in order to get some lifelike movements. I think the worst part of disneys new era Snow White, is seeing things like Once Upon a Time's Snow White/ Mary Margret. She was strong, brave, kind, and a total baddie with MULTIPLE weapons! She was such a well rounded character, yet still, when needed, forgiving and gracefully, Snow White. Why disney BOTCHED it like a bad plastic surgery, idk. There's truly no excuse for this. They simply refused to cast properly. Look at the dwarves. Who in their right mind would hear the public wants actual little people representation, and fires everyone, including the ONE little person they hired??

While this is valid I’m not too worried about it because if our OL can hold the opposing team on pass rush the we have time to throw, if they can push them on runs the. We can move the rock on the ground. Don’t need something nobody has ever seen, just need something nobody can stop. On that note, Go Lions, like you better than the other teams in the playoffs.
