My favorite fun fact about Tangled is how there were so many actresses considered for the role of Rapunzel; Reese Witherspoon, Kristen Chenoweth, Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel. But Mandy Moore was such a perfect fit for Rapunzel and I'm so happy that Mandy still talks highly of the movie and that she still is voicing Rapunzel in both guest appearances and the Tangled Series.

I always feel Disney's strongest films are the ones where they don't even pretend to do a straight adaptation of an existing story, but simply take the basic idea(s) of an existing story and create an entirely original story around it -- Dumbo, Lady and the Tramp, Robin Hood, The Rescuers, Frozen... and Tangled.

It's a quick moment in the movie, but my friend was the hand model for when Rapunzel is knitting. The animators wanted to get it right and it's something that is very appreciated by crafters since it's almost always animated wrong.

Punzie is my Fav which is why I'll be having a Tangled theme wedding when I get married lol I also grew up watching Barbie as Rapunzel and feel like Disney got SOME inspiration on that because they both wear similar color dresses as well as they both like to paint. But storywise they're both their own different versions of the original story.

I truly fell back in love with Disney films when I saw Tangled in theaters. My grandmother was passing away and I was battling severe depression. This movie brought me back to life and helped me find my passion for Disney again. Great informative episode Sarah!

Tangled is definitely one of my favourite Disney movies, I was so sad to learn it did not achieve the commercial success that it hoped for because they were worked so hard on it. I wonder if so many of us grown ups enjoyed Tangled because it's plot/character archs/jokes were a little more adult and that's why it wasn't a rave with kids. I noticed they definitely kiddied up Frozen with a lot of slapstick and cheesy jokes and I wonder if it was because of the response from Tangled. Thoughts anyone?

I’m happily surprised that you covered a more recent film! Tangled was the movie that made me fall back in love with Disney movies and Disney princesses (it also helped that I am a huge fan of Mandy Moore). It became my favorite movie and princess until Frozen came out, but it’s still in my Top 5. And “I See The Light” is one of my favorite songs and scenes. Flynn IS the hottest prince, however, LOL! Future suggestions: Brave for Mother’s Day and The Incredibles in preparation of the sequel!

I know that you like to skip around the decades, but I would suggest Moana, Wreck It Ralph & Big Hero 6. As far as what I like about Tangled, I would definitely have to say how Flynn and Rapunzel are willing to risk their lives for the other person in the end (this self sacrificing love is not portrayed enough in movies) and the humor.

Qualifiers are unclear and it’s usually which studios put the most money into their marketing that get nominated - which is another reason it’s surprising tangled wasn’t nominated. Disney has tons of money.

Tangled is my favourite Disney movie of all time. To me, it symbolises my love of Disney as it is the film that made me start loving it all over again. Its songs are amongst my favourites of all time, especially I See The Light, which is just such a gorgeous song in terms of both lyric and tune. I just love, love, love this film!

It is however called 'Rapunzel' here in Belgium. I hate that they always do that. Same for Moana...who is called Vaiana here. Hate it! Just keep 1 title/name. Anyway :) I LOVE Tangled! Since my childhood, The Little Mermaid was my fave, and still is...but in 2010 Rapunzel joined Ariel right there on the top of my list. I just loved the movie, the story, Pascal and Maximus are both cute and hilarious(dare I say it? Even better then Olaf!). It makes me so emotional every single time and the extra reason why it's my favourite? My daughter was born in 2010. Tangled was the first Disney movie she watched from beginning to end and Rapunzel was her first favourite Disney princess and when we went to Disneyland Paris and went to go meet a princess(they kept it a secret which princess you would get in the Princess Pavilion), .... the princess was Rapunzel. Obviously my poor mother heart melted and I stood there, watching my daughter hugging our favourite princess and I cried .... I was so emotional that even cast members came to me to ask if I was ok. :) I will never forget that.

Aww that's not your fault :) They should have done the research and then named her Vaiana everywhere(or any other name). There's even a place where she's called Oceania?! Can it be more confusing? I really had to learn myself to say 'tangled' when I was talking about 'Rapunzel' to English speaking friends...now I even say 'Tangled' instead of Rapunzel in Dutch :p But when we go to Disneyland Paris...it's quite confusing because we can't speak French, so we speak English in the parks...so 'Vaiana' signed my daughter's autograph book with 'Moana'. Which we don't mind, but it was a bit confusing for my daughter in the beginning.

Tangled is better than Frozen in every single way. It was completely hosed out an Animated Feature nomination apparently because of a technicality. There were not enough animated films released in 2010 for 5 nominations and as a result, Despicable Me got hosed as well. I also recognize I See the Light as the REAL Best Song winner for that year.

I agree with you -- I actually think _Tangled_ is the best of the "princess" movies, I guess because all the characters are so strong... My mom could have never made the claim that Rapunzel is "not very bright", as she did with Snow White.

In one of the original tales that I read (I see you found a picture from one of my story books, too! :D Yay, memories!) she fled to the desert to give birth. Also, at one point, the film was going to be called Rapunzel Unbraided, and have a completely different story where modern people and the fairy tale characters switch places! It would have been nice to keep the old title but have the rest of the movie be how it is now. I feel like they took a page out of Aladdin's book because Flynn is a bit like him (fights for himself, loner who falls in love, also a thief) and Rapunzel is a bit like Jasmine (trapped, eager to see the world outside, resourceful) One of Flynn's concept art's looks like Kristoff! I bet they kept that design in mind for the future! One image they used for a concept is the famous painting The Swing, as they wanted the film to look like a moving painting. I followed the news for this movie ever since it was announced in like, 2008, devouring every tiny piece of news I could get. I remember those days. Rapunzel is my favorite! Thanks for posting this!
