Disney MGM Studios from August 1989

If you've listened to podcast Episode 10 of the Retro Disney World Podcast: "Hooray for Floridawood" (www.retrodisney...) you may be wondering where some of the attraction sound bites originated from. Well Todd has just shared nearly 40 minutes of footage from his trip in August 1989 that was used for parts of the podcast. The video starts out at 6:30am, the sun is just coming up for a very early 7am opening.
Apparently back then The Great Movie Ride was the place to go first thing in the morning! Then we are off to the Backstage Studio Tour, which takes up nearly half of the video! From there we watch a good portion of the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular which has not changed over the years but this particular day the trap door in the final scene was working. Some quick footage of Star Tours under construction is followed by the Dip Mobile, NY Street, shots around the park, night shots, The Roger Rabbit/Acme Cartoon area and some more final shots around the park.
Its amazing to watch what has, and what hasn't changed over the years. Of course the park is going to go under a massive change in the next handful of years.

***** Love your video! Even though DHS AKA MGM is my favorite park of all time, I only have one thing to say: When the Wicked Witch of the West pops up, I was in complete awe because of it's impact back in May of 1989. This A-100 Audio-Animatronic is, to me, my favorite Animatronic in any theme parks, especially in any Disney parks, in general. April 12, 2015 was day I rode The Great Movie Ride for the first time, and I was in awe of the Wizard of Oz sequence. Seeing this video and comparing it to the TCM updated version, I see no changes to the Wicked Witch, even though she had new cosmetic/technical changes over the years. And I enjoyed your Hooray for Floridawood podcast. Keep it up, brohams. "I'll see you at the Movies."

I also don't know if anybody remembers but I remember going here when WCW was filming monday nitro there in the summer of 96 because of the Olympics. Hulk Hogan had just joined the NWO and my dad was like. "He is a bad guy now?"

What did people do at the studios park before Tower of Terror, Rockin Rollercoaster, Starwars, and Toy Story ?😮

At the time the park open, there was two main rides: Great Movie Ride and the Backstage Tour (later known as Studio Backlot Tour). The Backstage Tour was originally two hours long that included the tram tour and the walking portion of the tour where you could see what’s filming in one of the three sound stages. The park was a real place production studio at the time it open until the mid 2000s. I missed the original concept of Disney MGM/ Hollywood Studios of behind the scenes movie production. It has now gone downhill with no studio theme at all.
