She could literally be green and it would have no affect on The story. The little mermaid isn’t apart of anyone’s culture. It’s a children’s story that we watched as kids and as a black man yes I watched it. I had the vhs. Mulan, Merida, tiana, Pocahontas, moana are all characters whose Race/culture is draped in the story. Cinderella, belle, Ariel, aurora, rapunzel, Elsa, Anna can literally be white, black, pink, blue or green because there race has nothing to do with the story. Also, I’m pretty sure you mean white washing. White washing is making cleopatra white, making Jesus white, making the last samurai white, making a Japanese anime character white. Cultural appropriation is taking something from another culture and passing it off as your own. Just because they are casting black women In more roles now, doesn’t mean that there are many opportunities. There were 6 ladies on this stage and only one of them is black. That is a total lack of diversity.
