You cannot really speak ancient greek. We know how it might have sounded because of literature and it is similar to modern greek in many ways, but I don't think you could find anyone that could translate the whole movie and then speak in ancient Greek for two hours. My native language is English, while also knowing Italian, but for some reason, Norwegian culture and its language really appeal to me, and as such, I began learning it at the start of the year. It’s the nicest of the Germanic languages, in my opinion; not as coarse as German, abrupt and non-phonetic as Danish, nor overly tonal like Swedish. It’s a lovely thing to hear, and on par with the likes of Greek, in my book.

Oh, you're from Sweden? No offence meant to you or your country. What I meant, is that ofc Sweden has some good things about it, but I personally find Sweden to be the most boring out of the bunch. I personally have nothing against the cold, I usually sleep in minus degrees actually :P But I do think that the culture and language in other Scandinavian countries are more unique and interesting. Danish sounds very happy. Finnish sounds kinda exotic. Norwegian sounds like singing. My description of Icelandic would probably be biased since I'm Icelandic. And Swedish just sounds like a dull mixture of them all to me. Anyways, hope you have a nice day/night :)

John Smith - English (British) ~ *hears American accent*
@RwoRomeo8 жыл бұрын
I've read that today's american accent is actually how british people used to talk long ago, and that british accent is actually how the e'glish language came to evolve in its native land. Might it serve as an explanation?
@MydieLy8 жыл бұрын
I would doubt that to be wholly true. The American accent, with the more guttural sound, especially with the 'r' bears resemblance to characteristics in Irish accents, but is a congolmeration of many other accents by emigrated Europeans, like for example Dutch, German, even Spanish traces (even though you'd find only the slightest traces of it nowadays, barely discernable for most ears). It weren't, after all, just English people who went to settle there, even though the prevalence of British (!) and the won wars were the reason English became the language in use.
@cassieosbourne76668 жыл бұрын
+RwoRomeo Not quiet. A lot of the Puritans who went to America (fleeing Charles II) were from quite far out in the country (eg Devon and the West Country). John Smith, however was from London and given that he was a sailor/soldier he would have been from the East End dock land area. He would have spoken with a heavy Cockney accent. I think what you're thinking of is the Australia. When the convicts went over many of them were (again) from a very poor background, as you can imagine, and often drank a lot of alcohol (which was safer than water). The Australian accent came from a slurred Cockney one.
@turysta25758 жыл бұрын
I mean, why would we be crying? Haha :3 We know John Smith is British.
@mackenzieking65708 жыл бұрын
Are we all forgetting that the accent we call English nowadays actually started during the industrial revolution to distinguish between the classes and new money versus old money. Thus the American accent in some ways is closer to the original English accent then the current British one

Serene B. Yahya some like it in formal some in Egyptian it’s normal to have different views of a thing But I think there are more Egyptian lovers rather than in it formal Arabic because of when Disney started to put the cartoons in formal Arabic there was a campaign to change it and remake it in Egyptian dialect

why does John Smith sound American if he's English lol
@FlyMeUpSoHigh7 жыл бұрын
WhenYouWantDeath technically, American English accent is closer to the older English accent. The English just started using the posh accent partly to distinguish themselves from their American brethren, turning their old accent into the American English accent. But Disney screwed up that story so much they probably didn't think that deeply into accents 😒

I heard it was the Southern Accent that sounds most like Colonial English.

Ian G Did you know that most fairy-tales are written by Germans, but the most important and noticable of all those are the ones written by the "Gebrüder Grimm" (the brothers Grimm), but I'm not sure if the Beauty and the Beast counts to those...
@iang80327 жыл бұрын
I am German actually, so yeah. I grew up with these storys :) Beauty and the Beast however was a french fairytale; I don't have in mind that Grimms ever did a version of that one. Not sure what the authors name was though.... uh **peeks into wikipedia** aaand wiki spits out Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve whose novel originally was called "La Belle et la bête". I destinctly can remember that my mum read me a German translation of that original story once that was called "Die Schöne und das Tier" instead of Disneys "Die Schöne und das Biest".

Ian G Sleeping Beauty wasn't a Brothers Grimm story, at least not from the beginning, I don't remember where it's from but these "native languages isn't where their stories are from but where it took place based on clothes and buildings. For example Cinderella is originally a Brothers Grimm story, a Germán story but still many believe the movie takes place in France because the buildings and clothing looks most similar to what they looked like in France at that time.
