One tip I have for the blocks in the dungeon - as soon as you jump on one, stand still. As you do stand still, after a second or so, Aladdin will bob his head out (the looking around animation when standing still). When he does it the first time, jump on the next block. (just like the guy does in 33:11)

There is another move Aladdin can do. If you are standing still, hold up while standing still and press the Attack Button at once, you will do a multiple upward side to side slash. You can keep tapping the Attack Button while holding up to do many upward side to side slashes in succession. It's excellent for defense when enemies are attacking you on both sides or if things are flying towards you. Finally, if you have to attack enemies in a tight spot, it's a good technique to use.

Loved this game as a kid! You're not collecting 3 halves of the scarab in the desert level, it's the same half 3 times. It flies away when you touch it the first 2 times. The 2nd half is from the first boss of the next stage. If you look close, you can see there's a graphical difference for each half.

Why have you never used the sword from the crouch position? When you strike from the crouch your attack has more distance and you avoid some attacks from the enemies (especially that big muscular guard). Also, I think in the desert there aren't three parts of scarab - it's just one half that flies away the first two times you try to grab it.

It's funny, for some reason my brain always sorted this game into SIX levels rather than the ten it actually has. I think mainly because I counted levels 2 and 3 as 1-2 and 1-3 and level 7 as 3-2. No idea why I did this. It's a bit sad that Blue Sky didn't get to finish Aladdin, would've been neat to see what they came up with at least, but perhaps this turned out for the best. Blue Sky went on to make one of my favorite action/run and gun games on the Genesis two years later: Vectorman, not to mention the EXCELLENT Jurassic Park sequel: Rampage Edition (another favorite, thanks to UrinatingTree for alerting me to its existence as a separate game from the original so long ago, as I thought it was just an upgraded version of the original until I watched his review of it) a year before that. Also, Virgin's final product is one of my favorite Genesis games. I was one of those kids fortunate enough to have both 16 bit consoles so it was never a matter of having to choose in that regard. I also played the SNES version and while I hated it back then, it's definitely a solid game in its own right and I definitely love it now. I just prefer this Aladdin. I don't know if it's those certain animations (getting the guard's pants to drop cracks me up even today), or the atmosphere, or the soundtrack... but something about this just feels better to me.

I remember a couple times in my childhood that I managed to soft-lock the game during the Jafar fight. If you get up close to him and fire apples at turbo speed, Jafar will sometimes flat-out disappear and his second form won't start. ...It might even happen after his second form. I don't remember which form does this because I haven't played Aladdin in 18 years. But I do remember soft-locking the Jafar fight because I threw apples at him too close and too quickly. ...Also, the Genesis version IMO is still the best. I mean, what is Aladdin if he doesn't swing a weapon? The sound of clanking swords if both you and the enemy swing simultaneously is a nice attention to detail that I think gets overlooked.

I played this game so much as a kid that I could breeze through the game on the highest difficulty setting. When we learned about the debug mode, we explored all over the levels to find anything we didn't see normally. So, I ended up exploring as much as I could to find it all (fortunately, the game doesn't have a time limit). When I played the SNES version the first time, it was something of a shock seeing it didn't look as good (IMO) and didn't have the sword. It was still fun, but the Genesis version was superior (again, IMO).
