A great thing about "The Emperor's New Groove" is that the humor is timeless. Every single joke still sticks the landing even after 20 years. It doesn't rely heavily on humor that might be dated, as far to my knowledge. It's why this still stands the test of time.

So true. Today the humor in animated films is all fart jokes, slapstick and pop-cultural references. This, however, works so well because it's a character-driven buddy comedy where the humor derives mostly from the characters and their interaction with each other and from the finely-crafted situation comedy.

Fall in a moat, come out with a crocodile biting your butt and you'd say in annoyance "Why do we even have *that* lever?". Then smack the crocodile to make it go away." Yzma (stares in confusion at Kronk): "Okaaayyyyyyyyyy." Kronk: "I guess I'll have to pull the right lever then." Kronk pulls the other lever and the floor drops under Yzma and she screams and falls into the moat. Kronk: "Oh! There it is." Yzma then comes out with a crocodile biting her butt and an annoyed look on her face.

Kuzco was only 17 years old and given all the factors it’s really no wonder he turned out the way he did (being raised by Yzma for instance). lol. This is my favorite Disney movie I can watch it a thousand times and never get tired of it.

I remember watching this movie with the commentary from the filmmakers a little while ago, and they said that it was really tricky to get that right balance of ego-centrism from Kuzco, while still having him be sympathetic enough for the audience to want to watch him grow (very similar to Woody in the original 'Toy Story')! I think one big thing that helped is that the movie opens with showing Kuzco sitting in the rain as a llama suffering the aftermath of his selfishness (accompanied with the narration), and setting up that this is what will happen to him if he doesn't improve his ways, and showing how he will improve over the course of the movie BEFORE returning to that scene by the middle of the movie (where he breaks the 4th wall by saying, "Who are you kidding, pal?! They saw the whole thing, they KNOW what happened!", when you would typically not expect such a 4th wall break to work for such a scene)! Alos, Yzma mentioned in her tirade scene after Kuzco casually fires her "I practically raised him!", and Kronk remarks, "Yeah, you'd think he'd have turned out better."

The Emperor’s New Groove along with Lilo and Stitch are in my opinion the Two Best Films that Walt Disney Animation Studios have ever made and this was a great Review of The Emperor’s New Groove and I would love to see Animat do a Review of Lilo and Stitch since he did this Film
@jbcatz53 жыл бұрын
Lilo and Stitch really nails the human story, and the B-plot with Nani and social services as represented by Cobra Bubbles resonates more emotionally than the A-plot with the aliens. It’s the first animated Disney film to explore what it means to lose a parent, a very common trope in Disney films, and have that be a driving force. Lilo only adopts Stitch because Nani is overcompensating as a parent figure after losing both their parents, something the eight year old Lilo doesn’t realise. It’s also an angle for older viewers, something that holds more meaning when you understand Nani’s dilemma better. Among the human cast there are no bad guys, but Cobra’s mission is at odds with Nani wanting her and Lilo to remain together and we can understand why he’s valid in doing what he does. Gantu is there as a final boss to have a conventional bad guy, and he’s defeated as easily as he is in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep as the boss for Aqua’s Deep Space storyline (seriously, Critical Mode is the only place he’s anywhere near a decent challenge).

Kuzco is awesome, even before his redemption. He's one of those likeable jerks we see in movies. He's an asshole at the beginning, but is fun to watch simultaneously. His redemption also worked too, from beginning to end. His talk with Pacha at the end perfectly sums up his development while still being in character. David Spade's delivery certainly helped a great deal.

This movie deserves the animat seal of approval and since Gumby the movie is next, I hope he doesn’t give it the animat seal of garbage.

Depends on what cut of the movie he views. There’s the theatrical cut and then a director’s cut that shortens the film.

I love Emporers new groove. It was one of the first movies I remember seeing in theaters (Toy Story 2 and Tarzan were the first ones I remember seeing.) But because of that it's a favorite for my Mom, sister's and me. We quote this movie ALL the time!

I don't think any Disney movie has had as much pure entertainment value for me more than this one 😊

I gotta watch the movie, like I know that it has a big cult status. Gumby: The Movie is next, all I will say is that the movie will be an interesting experience, but it received mixed reviews and became a box-office bomb. As for the Gumby series itself, it was very weird during the 1950s, but then became better as time progresses. Then again, in the modern world, Gumby is now forgotten.

A definite classic with a lot of hilarious moments. I still really enjoy the many quotable scenes, and I absolutely love the villains, up to the point where I find myself liking them more than the main heroes (nothing against the good guys at all, I just think the villains are more hilarious). And it looks like we're going into claymation territory with the Gumby Movie next. That's gonna be interesting.

I feel that for Kingdom of the Sun to have worked, it needed the team from Aladdin.

So I watched Home on the Range on Disney+ for the first time since it came out to be if it was as bad as I remembered from when I was a teen and I gotta say, for that to have worked it needed the Groove team in the driver's seat.

This movie is proof that kids movies don't have to be rushed or just a way for parents to distract their kids for an hour
