Mulan’s father says “I’m blessed with two daughters.” He is against the traditional belief because he loves his family and thinks his daughters are no less valuable than sons. It is just the same as what Mulan does, which is loving family so much and would be against the public views to protect family.

It's true for our tradition too. When my father tells others that he has 2 daughter's they always say that it's a shame he doesn't have a son to continue his line. My mother cannot bear another child . I'll never forget the day my father told a man that he is blessed to have his two daughters, right after the man said he felt sorry for my father. That was the day I finally love my gender. But still sometimes I feel bad for my father cause where we live it is a traditional belief that if a man doesn't have a son than he is not considered a man. Also if a woman gets married she should leave her family to become a part of her husband's family. So if me and my sister gets married than my parents will be by themselves. I may never get married to have family of my own cause I want to take care of my parents , in the future I'll search for a man who will except me and my parents, a man who doesn't care what others will think of him cause we have another stupid belief that if a man lives with his wife and her parents he is not a real man. But it's 2020 and maybe in the future things will be different.

It’s not based on a true story is based on a Chinese legend and story. So it’s not accurate. Also there is different versions of the Chinese Mulan story, in many there is a witch that turns in to a falcon and helped the army fight. Similar to the one in the animated Mulan movie which helped the Hans just gain information.

@@rissarae3 Well, no. Women though were not considered strong, witches/priestesses/shamans were either feared or revered. That's one of the reasons that despite it being a very patriarchal society, most of Asians myths have very powerful goddesses. The biggest clue is the phoenix, it's the Yin to a dragon's Yang. So though the rules bound the women, the people knew that female power is to be respected.

the point of making the live action was to honor the chinese culture and their legendary poem. Disney said that this live action inspired by both "the animated 1998" and the "ballad of mulan" The animated vs live action : 1) The animated mulan used "Fa" as mulan surname instead of "Hua"(mandarin) but the correct one is Hua because "Fa" is the other dialect in china (southern china) which is cantonese that people in hongkong and guangdong use to communicate and since mulan lived in nothern china not southern china. (HUA MULAN = BLOSSOM MAGNOLIA) 2) the phoenix(feng huang) is a great replacement of mushu. Feng huang symbolizes graceful and both genders man and woman and it suits mulan character as well . But i think the way that the father said "the phoenix raises from the ashes" was reffering to a greek phoenix. 3) The loom . The ballad of mulan story starts with mulan weaving in front of doorway with the sound of creaking (which is shown in the 2nd trailer mulan) and prove that mulan wasnt tomboy at all she is feminine. 4) the imperial army coming with the conscriptions scroll which is both(animated and live action showed us) 5)the emperor who in ancient times was considered as "son of heaven" . So if he bowed to mulan and gave her his medallion, her status would pretty much be higher than "god" thats why they took it off. 6) mulan father was a noble war hero (has been told in both version) 7) the place where mulan lived in the live action its "HAKKA house" located in fujian province in china and not true because its not located in nothern china(nothern wei dynasty), so the animated mulan house was right since every buildings r different based on every dynasty. 8) in the animated mulan has a dog named "little brother" instead an actual brother but in the live action they twisted it to an actual human named "cricket" 9) the aesthetic side with the two rabbits metaphor. When mulan riding with blackwind she finds out two rabbits running side by side and she couldnt tell which is female and which one is male because the 2 rabbits ran fast. And its actually symbolizes the gender equality with men and woman. 10) xiang lang (witch) - (the development character of the falcon from the animated) - live action 2020. There is no witches in china but there is evil spirits in chinese mythology called "fox spirits" or the "nine tailed" and often take a form of a woman and has the power to deceive human with the practice of taoism which is what disney has taken that concept. Disney making this live action with the REALITY concept of life and the SERIOUSNESS of the war and still dont lost the magic that every disney movie has by making it different and AUTHENTIC . 11) the replacement of the name of shan yue to bori khan . In the ballad saying that the nothern invaders(turkic or mongols) called their leader as KHAN but bori actually was not the real name of their KHAN. 12) her comrades visit her in her village (has shown in both version) 13) the hair cutting scene . In china ancient times woman and man have long hair but styled im a different way . Man made bun and woman comb their hair and hair cutting was considered as direspectful and disgrace to your parents. In the ballad told that mulan's identity has never revealed during the 12 years of war, she is the one who revealed herself when her comrades visited her in her village by wearing her ols feminine dress and wore the comb.
