l come from China. This movie means a lot to me. I am an only child in my family which means i have to take on all the responsibilities for the whole family alone when my parents are getting older and older. Meanwhile, i have to fight against some unfair treatment on women from time to time. MULAN is just a great example for me.She is not a princess but a common girl just like you and me facing with the same delimma.I got lots of power from her when l was very nervous and exhausted. I gusse maybe this is why the story of MULAN can be spread worldwide and reserved for thousands of years.

This is probably Disney's best scene showing a character's internal struggle between who she is and who she's expected to be, something I'm sure everyone deals with at least once in their life. I get chills when she wipes one half of her make-up off and just looks, as if desperately searching and longing for a way to please everyone and bring honor to her family, but also stay true to herself.. Lea Salonga was disappointed when they did not put the entire song in the movie. So whenever she gets a chance she sings the whole song especially during Disney's anniversary or at every concert she has to do. It has such a strong message about finding yourself and when you finally did you had to conceal who you truly are and your heart is bursting from the pain of wanting to release yourself and be free to show the real you to those you love so they can be proud of you. I love the full version of Lea Salonga. The lyrics was just so amazing. They don't even have the same lyrics as what Christina sang. The one that Lea sings really reflects the movie from beginning to end. With Christina it was all about when she was already hiding her identity as a male soldier.

Idk what you mean by “made to listen”, both are great to listen at and both conveys different emotions. Lea’s is more like the princess-y type. It made me think that she’s still going to hide her true self and is just telling us what she’s been doing. Christina’s version is more pop and made me think she’s almost had it with hiding and is about to break free from her old self. In a way, the two versions are like the two mulans in the song, one is the princess still hiding, the other is the warrior out in the open.

But again, sleeping beauty is a fable, maleficent is the same if anything to the queen in snow white, power, control, greed and or beauty and appearance are there themes.

I don't think that Christina's version is as impactful and doesn't quite emotionally empathise the conflict that Mulan is having with herself through her journey of finding herself and where she belongs, because a lot of us have all come at this crossroads in our lives were we feel like we don't belong and how we feel like we don't know who we are - I've personally gone through that myself, but I know myself a lot better now, I don't doubt myself that much anymore, I've gone through a lot of challenges, and I know that I do belong in this world, and Mulan and many other Disney's films have helped say how I feel with their characters. I feel as though Lea's version gives you all of that and more. You can truly feel Mulan's struggle with the original, the lyrics are beautiful, and ironically reflect Mulans feelings and it has always provoked something in me, and I always end up crying as I can empathise with her even though hers is more to do with breaking away from what is traditionally expected from her, I've always felt the pressure of other people expecting me to act, feel, and be somebody that I am not, and having them not like who I actually am. How a lot of people just expect me to follow what they do, to think the same way as them, or to act in the same way but I'm not that person, I am my own person and I won't EVER try and be like somebody else, a lot of people have tried to get me to be like them, to think in the same way as them, but when I don't conform to any of that and I stay true to myself, where I can think, feel, and form my own opinions on things on my own they don't like that, they don't like that I don't go along with what they believe so they drop me or don't want to know me. I see so many girls fall into that trap of wanting to act and do what other people are doing, to follow what so many other girls are doing rather than follow their own path, rather than doing something for themselves or make their own judgement or opinion on something and really come into their own as an individual. I love Mulan, and everything about the film, she indeed inspires me to be the best that I can be and I think she does that for so many of us Disney fans where ever we are in the world. Don't ever let people make you feel less than great about who you are, just because you don't think the same as they do, don't act in the same way, or that you don't have the same world views/ beliefs, or opinions to them or the same ideas or values, because there's nothing wrong with that, that there's nothing wrong with disagreeing or rejecting an idea if it doesn't represent who you are and you're in your right to do that, so don't let it get to you if someone tries to make you feel bad for believing something different to them, if they cannot respectfully disagree with you, but still want to find something in common with you and to connect with you regardless then that's on them and not you. Don't let them make you doubt yourself and think you're the one with the problem when you're the one embracing who you truly are, and that you embrace being an individual while they are too concerned with following what other people are doing, and then try and become like those people. You matter. Your feelings matter, You exist. For those of you who are dealing with this, if it's depressing you or it's made you become anxious, then I hope my words can help you feel a lot better.

When I first came out as trans (ftm) 3 years ago, I thought this song was pretty accurate to how I felt. Everyone around me saw a girl, my family saw me as their sister/daughter/granddaughter ect. But I couldn't fit that role for them because it just wasn't who I was. "when will my reflection show who I am inside?" speaks very true to how I felt and still feel. I see that this post was 2 years ago, so I hope it worked out for you. It didn't for me. Both are great! Lea's rendition is just perfect. The producers did picked the best to sing the song. And Cristina's version is the pop version used to promote and for the CBB of Mulan. Both did exceptionally and will be both in the books for a very very very long time.

I can relate to this song because while I've never had any serious issues with parents or other people, I always lacked self esteem. Like I felt 'different' and 'shy', and didn't live up to standards (or that I was letting people down). When I was in my 20s I used to listen to this song all the time because, even though it's a sad song, somehow I felt at peace with it. Maybe because it made me realize I'm not the only person who felt "lost" (I realize now that being in your 20s is an emotionally confusing time in your life - you're still 'growing up').

I'm mixed and "ghetto" brothers and sisters pick on me because I'm bisexual, an anime fan, scene, and atheist. And they're not the only ones. I really like the Lea salonga and Suhyun's version..i don't think the english version suits this song really well. Don't get me wrong christina aguilera's voice has her own plus BUT for a disney song that's supposed to tell A STORY, her interpretation of reflection focuses too much on her own vocal abilities and she puts too much ornaments in it. It's like she doesn't care what the song's about at all and just tries to sing greatly, it doesn't sound natural
