Welcome back, Foolish Mortals and Happy Haunts! Today, we're unlocking the doors to Disney's Old Key West Resort, the very first Disney Vacation Club Resort that holds a special place in the hearts of many Disney Vacation Club Members. 🌴💙
Our return visit comes after quite some time, and we're excited to give this resort another shot. You see, our last stay wasn't exactly a walk in the park, but we're all about second chances! 😅

I can't imagine anyone giving OKW a terrible review. OKW is my favorite resort, so chill, staff is so incredibly nice, just a great place to stay.

My wife and I stayed at OKW in September of 2020: soon after the reopening of the parks after the unfortunate thing. Still very empty; the boat to Disney Springs wasn't running, and the resort felt almost deserted. We were in a top floor one bedroom; spectacular and enormous room, incredible view. Had our own kitchen and laundry room, both a big plus, and overall it was a wonderful and restful place when we were there. That being said, I'd say that we were practically the only people in the entire building, so not too loud at all. Our main issue was the bus service; pro tip--use the peninsular bus stop, as that is the first and largely guarantees you an empty bus. I agree--the studios in particular could use a refresh. BADLY. Getting room of that carpet to start.

This was so helpful. But for an annual trip to Disney for marathon weekend, knowing I will be at the resort more then the parks, I am rethinking my reservation there and may switch to another deluxe. tbd.

Old Key West rooms were last refurbished in 2019. I don't think I would call them dated. I think it's safe to say you just don't care for Old Key West and that's okay. Unless you have real noisy neighbors, we didn't hear anyone in our villa, and we had a door connecting to another room that was occupied as well. We also found that our villa at Old Key West was cleaner than other Disney Vacation Club Resorts, especially after just staying at Polynesian. That resort had some major cleanliness and operation issues.

You're absolutely right. We don't care for Old Key West and that is ok. 😉 Not every resort is going to be for everyone and we're not shy about that when doing our reviews. That said, we call it like it is when doing our reviews and try to keep our personal preferences out of it as much as we can. For example, the rooms don't feel "dated" to us 'case they're not our style; it's the condition as well as how the room stacks up to other resorts that have been updated/refurbished in the same timeframe. One super basic example that comes to mind is the safe with a key versus a digital code [which has become standard everywhere else]. There were a few other things that we outlined in our full review of this resort as well. That all having been said, regardless of our personal preferences, we think that a resort like Old Key West which was renovated so recently [which we later learned was in 2019] deserves better as do those who own contracts there. That said, it was ABSOLUTELY one of the cleanest rooms we've stayed in at Walt Disney World in a long time. Most definitely the cleanest Disney Vacation Club Resort we've stayed at in the past 12 months. I'm curious about something though, if you don't mind taking the time to answer: Do you usually stay in a Deluxe Studio or a bigger room? I ask because, I've heard such differing opinions about OKW [specifically when it comes to things like noise and privacy]. From what I've been able to gather thus far, it seems like most of the people staying in 1BR Villas or bigger don't run into the same types of issues that you get when staying in a Deluxe Studio and I'm just curious what your experience is, if you don't mind sharing. Does Aruba in the Caribbean have connecting rooms? Are they noisier than regular rooms?

I'm not sure about whether or not the Aruba section of the resort specifically has adjoining rooms. What I can tell you is that in all the rooms I have stayed at in the past, I have never noticed rooms being louder when they are adjoined unless they are at a DVC Resort. The loudest being Old Key West.
