Interesting fact. Walt chose the location of WDW after flying over it in his private plane scouting for just the right spot. After doing so the plane headed back west and while refueling Walt found out President Kennedy had been assasinated. Yep both events happened the same day.

Which was also the day that Gilligan's Island was filming the pilot, including the beginning sequence at the marina. If you pay close attention, you can even see the flags at half staff as a result.

if you watch the start of gilligan's island- look for the flags in the background, they are at 1/2 staff because as it was filmed word came of the president's death and they were lowered.

When I worked there, I was told that it stood for "Human Feces," not "Honey." I personally never had to encounter a Code H, but I definitely had a Code V once. It happened right before the car was supposed to take off, but I held it from going because he just didn't look good at all. Not 5 seconds later, Code V happened all over the load station floor. Poor kid's clam chowder didn't stand a chance against those tummy nerves. Good thing we were in an open-air attraction...

When I worked down there in 2005, I got told by quite a few cast members that when dealing with an overly obnoxious or infuriating guest, to give your biggest,brightest, cheeriest smile and in your best "Disney voice" tell the guest to, "Have a DISNEY day!" It was basically how to tell a guest to go f**k themselves without actually saying it. To this day I'll still occasionally do that when I get annoyed with people.

A few comments regarding your content: • The tunnels beneath the surface level of Walt Disney World are officially called Utility Corridors, or "Utilidors" for short. • Winnie the Pooh is English, and therefore ineligible to be President of the United States. • River Country closed over eleven years after the incident with the dead kid. Declining attendance due to that death was NOT the reason it was closed. Disney frequently shuts down under performing attractions, and Disney's Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon were vastly more popular, which led to River Country's demise. • I never heard about that small plane that crashed into Epcot's parking lot, but I do know that Walt Disney World is a "no fly zone," meaning the FAA doesn't allow any aircraft to pass overhead except in cases of emergency. So it was unlikely that the passengers of that plane were flying over to take in the view of WDW. If they did, they were breaking the law. • Discovery Island was shut down and its residents transferred to Animal Kingdom when it opened. This was a planned event, and Discovery Island wasn't shut down for lack of attendance.

😮River Country closed to other guests, and let the campers at Fort Wilderness use it. I was one of them with my family of 8. It did close on Nov 2, 2001, but wasn't supposed to stay closed. However, due to the other water parks being more patronized, 9/11, and a FL law regarding the type of water that needed to be used, specifically chlorinated water. There was also concern about how the critters that would go in and get sick. Alligators enjoyed it too. We thought it was OK, but definitely not Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon. It permanently closed on Jan 20, 2005.

@cijmo

This is predominantly the history of the park. At 18:26 they tell you that "H" is a poop code. Please don't start "running as far away as possible" because it's crowded ... and it's mob mentality and if you start running as far away as possible, others will too, having no idea that it's just poop that you're running from.
@SmallSpoonBrigade
@SmallSpoonBrigade 3 ай бұрын
Also, keep in mind that the reason for code words is to keep people from panicking. If there's anything that legitimately warrants running, it won't be expressed via codewords. It will be something more along the lines of "run for your life, the dinosaurs have broken out of their enclosures and have developed a taste for human flesh" sort of thing. Or, maybe that's more of a Universal parks problem.

Former Cast Member here. I remember cleaning up two code H's. One of them was on my first day of training. Also, funny/disgusting code V story below. After doing a trash run, I was getting ready to sweep until I could go on my break. Then I get a call to help another custodian with a code V, and to bring extra Voban (sawdust like powder that absorbs the moisture and smell). I arrive to the location where we were eventually joined by two more cast members to deter guests. Somehow, one woman slipped past us and stepped bare foot through the whole mess. We tried to tell her but were stunned silent by what we were watching.

I would posit to you that Walt, having grown up at a time and place where central sewer systems were rare at best, would have been more aware of this and is the real basis for the H designation than this tenuous H = Honey = Pooh = someone carped in public you describe.

Communities & neighborhoods w/HOA that must follow strict guidelines are not much different than what the original EPCOT would've been. Residents also don't or can't vote in most communities. They have to abide by rules & regulations -- especially if you're a renter, not a home-owner. Even so, many neighborhoods are quite strict, even if you're an owner. You also wouldn't have lived at EPCOT permanently, only as long as you worked as a cast-member or Walt Disney World employee.

Honestly, from an environmental perspective, im glad that dino island is abandoned. Considering what birds were shown in the segment, it’s most likely a rookery now! It’s where herons, ibises, and other similar birds raise their young

I was 14 miles from Disneyland in 1955 when it opened. I could see the fireworks 🎆 from my backyard. We rarely visited there. I can remember when they built the Matterhorn. And I remember when Disneyland in Florida was a rumor met with disbelief.

I went to Space Mountain when it first opened, and was a lot rougher than it is now. I was ok for that, but we went to the Monsanto 360-degree theatre, and lunch decided it wanted out. My grandmother took me to the attendant at the door and we were told we couldn't leave until the ride was over. Then she took another look at me, flung the door open and said BATHROOM AROUND THAT CORNER! I barely made it.

They brought back the communal underwear with their "reusable mask" where during COVID they gave the mask out with the costumes and forced you to returned them so they can give them to other cast members. I once got a mask that smelled like someone's cigarette breath. I ripped it and turned it back in for another.

All I can say is that if my loved one's ashes are thrown into a landfil, Disney will have funerals to attend... Disney staff typically call for a HEPA vacuum clean up, and the ashes are just thrown into a dumpster. Human ashes are seen as a biohazard... Fine... But Disney will face a violent wrath when they have to deal with the families of the deceased. Disrespectful beyond compare, heartless, and while yes... It is illegal to dump ashes on property without the owner's permission. It's a sin to disrespect the dead like that...

"No matter how much Disney World tries to control the environment within its gates, the outside world can still find a way in" Well, until 9/11 - ever since, Disney airspace is class E, allowing only FAA-authorized flights to fly, but only 18,000 feet. So commercial airliners are fine, but your typical Cessna (like the one in the story) cannot come within 3 nautical miles without special permission.

My thought exactly although I did stick with it to spot how many mistakes another 'Disney expert' made. I don't think you can blame the plane crash in the EPCOT carpark on Disney. As for the 'totalitarian' city of EPCOT, yeah I don't buy that one as Walt was only copying the models of Bourneville and Port Sunlight.
