So Brickey, this is not the first of your videos that I have seen you use video from Imagineering and make it understandable to the everyday person. In as much, you do an amazing job of it. When I first watched the video you used I had no problem understanding it, but when I showed it to some friends they really couldn't understand half of it and I had a hard time trying to explain it. I'm going to show them this video later and see just how much it helps them. I will report back to let you know. You are amazing Sir, Thank You.

So Brickey, not only do I tip my hat to you for upgrading my knowledge of Disney Parks, but also bow to you as you are a better teacher than Disney or I. My friends now have a much better understanding of how tomorrow's AI driven robots will most likely work. After rewatching this video with them they noticed something I thought I was seeing, so we searched for guest videos of the little guys. In almost all of them there's what we figure has to be a plain clothed cast member/puppeteer for each bot on stage with a touchscreen controller in the background. This just seems odd for something that is supposed to be autonomous. Is this something you knew about, or an observation just coming to light. I have to ask because everything stated about the little guys is that they are completely AI. As always a huge thanks for being the projector of Disney knowledge.

Those little droids are always a hit a draw a great crowd when they come out to entertain the citizens and visitors of Batuu. Some of the best is their interactions with the stormtroopers.

Love these deep dives - the emergence of these three little bots is the first time in ages that Galaxy's Edge has come to life and started approaching the potential of the initial designs - can't wait to see where these tests lead to. There are so many nooks and crannies that various droids and creatures could be placed to populate Batuu (and other lands!). Keep these coming Brickey!

Really enjoying your content. So glad I found this channel. I'd love to see some bits on the makings of odd stuff. Things like the weird plastic looking wood (that I think is real) they use everywhere. There's tons of weird and wonderful stuff like that you could look at that I think would be fascinating.

Forget the performers. The MASSIVE opportunity for Disney is to employ proven, commercially available robots to support CMs NOW! Cleaning floors, Delivering food to tables & hotel rooms and delivering packages/inventory across the parks and the resorts.

This looks a lot like a real-world implementation of something used in 3D animation called motion matching. The object has a controller with access to a large catalog of animation clips, and it can blend together pieces of any of these clips depending on how the object is being directed to move. In games or other 3D applications, it can create much more realistic and context-appropriate movement in characters and other objects, very much like we see with these droids.

This is so cool. But frankly, a meet and greet with a robot Mickey or worse, robot Cinderella would freak me the H out. Some jobs I prefer remain human. 😂

It would be kewl if Disney would take a Star Wars show with the droids on the road -- not a Broadway show but something smaller/experience based. Personally I don't need a ride. Actually if they just visited several of the conventions around the country they'd generate a lot of ticket sales.

Wait staff in a typical restaurant spend 60% of their time walking and carrying stuff, not improving the Guest experience nor the restaurant's bottom line. They are reliable and simple to use. America is decades behind in the productivity they provide.

There is one big difference in robotics that I find interesting, and curious if/when it will change. When a Human is walking we are perceiving the environment we are walking in and subconsciously adjusting out walk. We do this proactively 90% of the time. What I mean by that is you are walking up to say a set of stairs, you know that you have to treat those stairs differently before you actually get to them. Or a better example you are walking onto a skating rink or a frozen pond. You know the ice is slippery before you step on it, so you are already preparing yourself to treat it accordingly. In this video you see the clips of the robot walking over the loose boards. A person, again sees this and prepares to adjust accordingly. Most of the time robots however are reactive instead of proactive. They don't perceive that they are about to walk onto a slippery surface, or a surface with loose material. They just walk and then as their limbs start flailing they simply (not that it is simple at all) react to what is happening based on what they've learned to keep their feet. We do this as well of course when we are surprised. Oh didn't see that ice there. But the key difference is the vast majority of the time we know what we are walking into and prepare for it, while the opposite is true for robots. The vast majority of the time they have no idea and simply react to what is happening. This is a fundamental difference, not just in walking but in many scenarios that separates how we behave versus how they behave, which is why I find artificial sensing so interesting. Whether is be a robot or a car, more of its logic is based on reaction because it doesn't really perceive and analyze the world and project forward in time the way we do. For now.

It’s truly fascinating because everything you explained beautifully is naked to the human eye. Which makes this reverse problem solving seem as if it’s actually happening the way we process the world. I drive a fully autonomous car and being a good driver is all about predicting the other guy not reacting to the other guy. The car has some prediction capabilities but it still requires a human that can clearly make a judgement call that this box coming up in the road is going to be a problem. I should take back over. When these cars crash it’s normally because the human didn’t step in to intervene. Great comment I too am fascinated by this and it was hard to keep this video 15 minutes hahaha

@@HeyBrickey Same. I drive a Tesla and use FSD regularly but I'm always ready to step in when I need to. Tesla is actually starting to implement things like recognizing brake lights means maybe I should prepare to slow down, or hazards meaning I should go around. It is fascinating.

At the speed AI is evolving, these little bots will seem really primitive 5 years from now. Who knows, maybe in a decade we’ll have little sentient robots walking around Galaxy’s Edge.

Yeah, they make Boston dynamics look like a bunch of amateurs building robots. These little guys at Disney have more motion and better balance than any robot that has been built in 20 years. Disney has surpassed every robotics company out there.

Umm I would seriously question this statement. It’s one thing to make small robots with low CoG working in defined terrain and a very preplanned way with limited movement ranges and a completely different task making robots with perception to make decisions and having them change their CoG, COm drastically and undergo a crazy range of dynamic movement like Atlas and Spot. But I agree that what Disney Imagineering has achieved with control and smoothness of movement in such a small package is nothing short of remarkable.
