The Wild was actually a collaboration between Disney and C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures, which is a Canadian CGI studio, this was its first and only animated feature. C.O.R.E. had collaborated with Disney before, such as Flubber 1996 and Beverly Hills Chihuahua, but ultimately, C.O.R.E. went defunct in 2010, and left behind this blotch carrying the Disney banner.

Katzenberg (Dreamworks) infamously stole ideas from other studios and rushed their projects out first, to make the other guys look like *they* ripped *them* off Culturally speaking it worked for Madagascar, it’s the more fondly remembered and Wild gets called the rip-off; but it didn’t work for Antz, most people prefer Bug’s Life and don’t care if it came out after, myself included

That's false. it is included as the 46th film in the series, replacing Dinosaur not Chicken little when looking at some European lists of animated Disney films. It isn't, though, included on Disney's animation studio's list when looking at their film list, but that list does include both Dinosaur and Chicken little.

My theory is that first they made this as a more serious movie, then Madagascar came out, and two correctioms were made to compete with Madagascar: 1) Humor was added (explaining why it looks rushed and out of place). 2) It was decided the island wouldn't be featured in marketing to avoid Madagascar comparissons. So they had to market the hell out of New York.

I mean don't get me wrong, the CPZ is lovely and all, but it's way too small to fit most of the animals featured in either movie; the Bronx zoo is right there and it can fit all the animals featured in either film. NYC/S isn't just Manhattan (there's a whole other 4 boroughs in the city).

Even in the scene where they travel the Times Square there isn't a single human being in the background. They turned Manhattan into a liminal space in this movie.

I only remember this movie because the DVD my grandma got had a Silent Hill preview after the "You wouldn't steal a car" bit. I was alone when I watched it and that preview gave me nightmares, so much so that I can't remember the story of The Wild and had avoided rewatching it.

Yo, I actually remember this film very fondly. I remember watching it with my dad when I was little and we still sing the "pretty nice day" song. It's one of those things/movies I like not necessarily because of the plot or writing themselves, but the laughs I had when I was little. At least I remember the dub being funny (portuguese version at least, um salve pros meus mano brasuca)

I didn’t have a lot of Disney movies growing up, but oddly enough I had this one on DVD as well as Madagascar. I remember thinking how dumb this movie was and it was the Walmart version of the Lion King and Madagascar. Really the only part I liked was Nigel being turned into a god, everything else just felt so off. Do the Lion King 2 please!
