The old black and white picture of the Japanese family is obviously Hiro's and Tadashi's grandfather and great-grandparents. Because colour pictures came to be a long time ago now, the family and their room in the picture look of pre-WWII era dress and design, and BH6 is obviously set somewhat in the technological future, putting a lot of age on that picture.

oneMeVz Well, the clothes are actually just traditional Japanese dress which is basically worn for any formal occasion, like for the "nice" family photos (e.g. the ones you'd go to a professional photographer for). And being in monochrome doesn't automatically mean that the photo is old since even modern IRL tech could do that very easily if so desired. Meaning that the kid in that photo could be a younger Tadashi and his parents before Hiro was born, explaining why there was only one kid in the photo.

ok so this is an intersting idea but 1. The portals are not time travel at all, they are teleportation. 2. that family photo is clearly an old one ( in black and white) and is probably not even of Tadashi. 3. There are photos of Hiro and Tadashi together as kids. If Tadashi was actually Hiro, then young Tadashi would look like Hiro, but they clearly have differences. 4. Baymax refers to Hiro as, Hiro. So why would he refer to him as Tadashi and Hiro? Baymax is very literal and they would have the same DNA and body scan and everything. 5. Hiro most likely has no other friends because he graduated so early, and his main thing is staying inside making robots and then going to bot fights. 6. He got Tadashi's "office" after he signed up for college because...well it was vacant. He had his hat because he picked it up right after Tadashi died. 7. Hiro circled ares with bot fights on a map, and Tadashi has probably picked him up before, and knew where to find him 8. Is it so hard to believe that Tadashi just knows Hiro well enough that he can manipulate him? 9. Tadashi is clearly smart, and is always looking out for his brother, that is why he knew Krei had the microbot. 10. Tadashi could not have set up another portal, because Krei was the only one with that technology and it was on the island. Plus, it was broken. There is no way he could have snuck the portal in in a half a second. 11. the clock is probably just Disney being lazy...not even they would animate a moving clock. 12. Abigail didn't age because the event happend just months, possibly weeks prior. 13. Hiro has an epic gap in his teeth, and teeth are one thing that every person has different. If Tadashi was Hiro, they would have the same gap, unless Hiro/Tadashi got braces at like age 5. I'm sorry to be that person but these are just my thoughts...

I think Tadashi is still alive, cuz like, he ran in literally just before the explosion, so he probably saw whatever was going to actually explode and ducked behind something in an attempt to preserve his own life. There were plenty of objects in there that would offer up some kind of protection at least from the blast. Tadashi was probably burned pretty badly in the actual flames that came after the blast, and we all know what happened to Prince Zuko: severe disfiguring. Tadashi would look significantly different with those scars, and with everyone already believing that he's dead, trying to convince everyone that it's him would more likely than not be pointless. But after doing that area-wide scan, Baymax would have detected Tadashi and therefore still insist to Hiro that he's here and alive. If the gang ever did run into Tadashi on the streets, it probably would take Baymax to convince them that it's really him.

taokoyaki also remember that he would have seen Callaghan doing what he did, and that basic paranoia of endangering those he's close to would also make it harder for him to go home and let them know he's alive since he'd seen what he did and that Callaghan was so determined to stop anyone he felt was in the way or knew what he was doing. Tadashi would feel he needed to wait until the threat of Callaghan was neutralized before going back to his friends and family.

With most of your theories, I can kinda get, but this one... feels like too much of a stretch. Like. *way* too much of a stretch. What gain would Hiro have from lying to his family in such a drastic fashion? Why would he de-age when going back in time? Why wouldn't Baymax recognize them as the same person and call them by the same name? Not to mention it is _completely_ out-of-character for Hiro to go back and try to save his brother; By the end of the movie, he has accepted the death and moved on, and I think Hiro's smart enough and genera-savvy enough to know not to meddle with time... ...and I haven't even _gotten_ to the Bootstrap Timetravel Paradox he'd create by doing so. In your theory, Hiro goes back in time to save Tadashi, aka his older self... so why did *that* Hiro decide to go back in time? Was it to save _his_ Tadashi? If so, then why did _that_ Tadashi go back in time? At some point, there'd be a Hiro without a Tadashi, and he'd be the Hiro who started this cycle. If so... why did _that_ Hiro decide to go back in time? And, better yet, because he'd not be in a butterfly-effected timeline... It would have to be one *massive* coincidence that would cause an *entirely identical time de-aging mishap* to occur. Also, even if you want to make the argument that Abigail "time-travels" (even though she's not moving at lightspeed, she's just in suspended animation or hypersleep, which Baymax even states), the time-travel shown is the "moving forward in time" variant, which is _drastically_ different from the "moving backwards through time", to the point where one is sci-fi and the other is pure fantasy. And Big Hero 6 has more-or-less _tried_ to have some degree of believably in terms of the sci-fi. So it's not _really_ fitting for the film to make _this_ large a stretch in the suspension of disbelief. ...Long story short, I just think your theory is a little too many kilometers outside of the ballpark on this one.

I was having similar doubts as you, and the only way I could explain it what's that the story in the movie is only the second time line. Meaning in the original timeline something went horribly wrong (Probably someone using Hiros inventions for great evil/destruction)and so original Hiro went back in time (you just have to accept the aging backward thing) and pretended to be his past self's big brother, aka Tadashi. The movie is only the second timeline meaning that when "Tadashi" dies he's dead for good and when Hiro saves the day at the end of the movie he has no reason to continue the loop

Woah woah woah. Hold on, dude. Number one: If Baymax scanned both of them, then why did it call them both by different names if they’re the same person? And number two: Tadasho must be at least 18, cause in the movie, he’s not locked up with minors, like the other dudes. If Hiro went back into the past and met his baby self and became his older brother or something, then what the heck. He’d be way younger, not about 8-10 like in the 2:57 picture. Number three: certainly someone would notice two kids. Number four: If Tadashi and him were the same person, they’d have the same fingerprints. It’s mostly the fingerprint thing, and Baymax calling them by different names. Even if Tadashi burned off his fingerprints someone would notice. Plus, then wouldn’t Baymax point out a glitch if there’s two Tadashis, due to familial dna? Either Tadashi got his molecules all rearranged and burned off his fingerprints and the cops didn’t notice (And Baymax not noticing the scarring or burns), or they’re not the same. Or Tadashi just messed with Baymax to say they’re different to throw off the scent, but the cops would still notice, and the burns would still be there.

This really is a stretch. There's also the bootstrap paradox involved: There has to be a timeline wherein there was no Tadashi in the first place....Yes, Time Travel's weird, but for Hiro to ever be sent back in time using the portal, to ever upgrade Baymax and become Big Hero 6, there would have needed to be a catalyst (aka Tadashi's death), and if Tadashi never existed, Hiro never would have went into the portal.

If you do adopt yourself and make yourself a genius, that self of yours are likely to not continue the same timeline of which you have lived in, causing him not to be able to do the choise you make, thus creating a paradox. J's talking about using the portal to go back in time, etc. The events leading up to Hiro using the portal in the first place is by creating Big Hero 6, upgrading Baymax, etc. and none of that would have happened had Tadashi not died. How could Baymax even be created if there was no Tadashi *to* create him? There needs to be a "patient zero" universe in which there was a Tadashi to create Baymax and then "die." If Hiro is Tadashi, where's that patient zero universe?

That works under the assumption that time travel can't have causal loops. For example, say someone receives a message from their future self, but is too excited about the existence of time travel to pay attention to the message before they have to go back to the future. This individual then realizes their mistake, worries, and tries to figure out what the message was going to be. They discover that the message was not to worry about the future, and then goes back in time to tell their past self that message, only to not be listened to because their past self was too excited about the existence of time travel to pay attention to the message before their future self had to go back to the future. In this example, time continues along a single path that loops around itself. In the example you listed, time travels among several parallel paths, and there are small paths between these parallel paths that travel to different points along the parallel paths. Alternate universes, in other words.

The symbol on Tadashi's hat is the logo for the superhero Sunfire, a character from the Big Hero 6 comics. Maybe Callahan started the fire by making one of the experiments spiral out of control (similar to the energy device in Spider Man 2.) My theory is that, somehow, when Tadashi goes into the building, the firey experiment turns Tadashi into Sunfire and he will return as him (perhaps through absorbing the radiation of the blast.)

I'm for it, but my issue with it is that if Tadashi is still alive then why hasn't he contacted Hiro or Aunt Cas in Weeks/Months to let them know that he's ok. It's more cruel to allow them to believe that he's dead for this enormous amount of time rather than contacting them at some kind of distance to let them know that he's dangerous to be around. Also when Baymax scans the city he would have located Tadashi and then told Hiro so that he could improve Hiro's mental state.

We Review Everything! Perhaps the radiation warped Tadashi's DNA on some level (if my Sunfire theory is true), so he wouldn't have found him on the scan as Tadashi's signature wouldn't have matched his signature before his death. Also perhaps Baymax didn't make the connection. His programming might be slightly single minded. He knows that Tadashi is dead. His current understanding of Tadashi's presence is that he lives on in the videos in Baymax's software, hence 'Tadashi is here.' Because of this, he may not have even considered that Tadashi is possibly alive. He still has Tadashi's medical programming; he possesses the basic understanding of healthcare, which would suggest that he is programmed to believe that when someone is dead, they're dead. I think it's more likely that Tadashi has been turned evil/been brainwashed/lost his way. That's why he didn't contact his family. Also, it would offer an interesting parallel to the first movie. Tadashi worked so hard to bring Hiro on the right path in life, change his frame of mind and to use his gifts for something positive. If my theory is true, Hiro will have to do the same for Tadashi.
