Disney Villain Non-Lethal Fates: Got off Easy to Worse Than Death
Disney. From its inception nearly 100 years ago, the company has produced countless characters. From classic movies such as Pinocchio to more modern films like Big Hero Six, we have seen plenty of villains get their comeuppance… But that doesn’t always mean that they take the big dirt nap. From characters seeing the error of their ways… to being trapped or arrested… to probably actually wishing for death, today we’re going to explore the fates of the villains who weren’t killed.

The Coachman was a fairly realistic situation. Cruela was also slandered/shamed by Roger's popular song. Which pretty much caused her a great deal of public damage. Not sure how easy that is for a business person. Han's likely would have been executed for attempting to steal a throne. Which would have started a war an other problems.

Hans’s plan was stupid anyway. It wouldn’t have worked even if Elsa and Ana had died. He was from a whole different country and had not been in a serious relationship with either of the sisters. Someone from Arendelle would have likely been chosen to be the new ruler.

I’m quite surprised the Coachman got no comeuppance as the Hayes code was still in effect at the time, and said that villains must get negative repercussion for their actions, and the Coachman did some of the most disgusting things any villain did in any animated film.

Thanks. I was trying to remember if the Hayes Code was in effect by the time of the movie or not. Maybe because animation wasn't watched as carefully? It should be noted that Professor Callahan didn't know that his daughter was trapped in an alternate dimension... he thought she was dead, and using the portal was an attempt at murder (namely a poetic one). He was surprised when Hiro and Baymax found out that his daughter was likely still alive. And now that he dose know for a fact that she is in good health, his chance at redemption is pretty high.

I'm not entirely sure what all the "other punishment" entailed of that Hans got, but in that one short "Frozen Fever" it shows Elsa sneezing a giant snowball when trying to blow the birthday bugle. Said snowball is launched into the Southern Isles where we see Hans having to shovel all of the manure out of the horse stalls. Then the giant snowball comes hurdling towards him and pushes him face first into the manure pile.

1.) I remember reading somewhere that the original Pinocchio has a deleted scene where the coachman is arrested and the kids are freed. And my personal headcanon is that Pinocchio alerted the authorities after he became a real boy. 2.) Lady Tramaine and Drizella were actually forced to become servants at the castle in the third Cinderella movie (Anastasia redeemed herself) after the two used Fairy Godmother's wand to cause trouble.

I'll say this. Hans getting more genuine consequences for his actions in retellings was nice to see. On the season of Once Upon a Time that served as a much better sequel to Frozen, Hans returned with an army only to be bested once more, and in Kingdom Hearts 3 his evil actions cause him to be transformed into a Heartless and subsequently killed by Sora. On that note, becoming a Heartless is in and of itself a fate worse than death, having the evil and malice in your heart transform you into a mindless monster whose only thought is to turn every living thing around it into more Heartless.

And Shere Khan, who would probably be somewhere in the final section. The reason for it is mainly because he has a flaming branch tied in his tail, which if it tightened enough, would’ve been difficult to remove and he does run away after seeing it. He does reappear in the second film (2003) where he is even more intimidating towards Mowgli. Medusa from the rescuers would also be in the same section (last one), mainly because it’s not shown if her alligators were able to climb up or knock down the pole she was holding onto to keep them from her. If they did, it was probably shown offscreen.

Actually, I disagree with Sir Ector. I admit that he's not the best father you can have out there (especially shown through him calling Arthur "Wart), but let's think about it. His "Four hours of extra kitchen duty" wasn't out of malevolence; Arthur HAD gone running off into the woods which was described as, "Swarming with wolves." Remember, Sir Ector WAS upset about Arthur running off like that, so we know he cared. Put yourself in his shoes, your son (foster or not) goes running off into a dangerous location that he should know better than to do, and he comes back with a "I'm sorry Sir." No, I really don't think that "I'm sorry" IS enough! Arthur needs to learn that there are consequences to his actions. It's a disciplinary action. Later, when he gets more demerits, he WAS late to whatever it was he was doing and then he comes in with a story that, be honest, you'd NEVER believe! Again, a disciplinary action, Arthur was late and to Sir Ector's knowledge, he lied to him about why. Then we get his reaction to the kitchen cleaning. Merlin's "You call washing dishes and sweeping floors a work of evil?" misses the point. It wasn't WHAT the dishes, mop, and broom were doing, it's that they had been enchanted. Again, put yourself in his shoes, you come into your kitchen and you see flying dishes and cleaning equipment moving on its own when it clearly shouldn't be. Your initial reaction probably WOULD be panic and now that you see that Merlin is legitimate powerful, your imagination starts to run wild with fear. So in comes Arthur, who had popped off when he was given a task to complete, starts running off his mouth and isn't getting your cues to just shut up. OF COURSE he's going to get punished! I daresay we've ALL been there, some probably on both sides now! While Sir Ector's demeanor when he announces a new squire for Kay was jerkish, Arthur really and truly did bring it upon himself. Don't forget, Sir Ector made Arthur his first choice for Kay's squire, thereby giving him a chance to eventually become a knight, and that DOES require a little something called, DISCIPLINE! So, while I wouldn't want Sir Ector as a father, I have to say, he wasn't a villain, but the disciplinary adult.

Why did I have to scroll so far to find this. I honestly agree with you. He was looking out for Arthur to what you could say is the best of his abilities trying to raise him to be a good and strong man like he had done with Kay. Kay’s behavior can be chalked up to touchy older brother syndrome. I know plenty of older brother like that. Also Kay probably had to do the same thing as Arthur and simply “Did his time”

The Straight-To-DVD Sequels, as Infamous as a lot of them may be, gave a handful of Villains their punishments. Cruella De Vil was arrested and later Sent to an Asylum in Patch's London Adventure. Lady Tremaine along with Drizella were turned into Toads in Cinderella 3, and in the post credit scene, turned back into Humans wearing Servant Rags. Whenever anyone questions how it is that I can talk shit about what is allegedly Disney's greatest movie of all time, I only need mention two things: "Pleasure Island" and "The Coachman". Pleasure Island because Disney completely overhauled the original symbolism from "a lack of an education dooms you to a fate of manual labor, and people will try to take advantage of that" to "don't be a jackass". And The Coachman because that is where Disney DOES remain faithful to the original. They cut out the symbolism but left the villain getting away with it. AKA the EXACT OPPOSITE of what they should have done for a Disney movie.

I don't disagree with your line of thinking, and in most cases I would agree that the villain should never get away with the evil they do, but in Pinnoccio it weirdly made sense for it to turn out the way it did because the coachman was meant to teach him a lesson. It was a very close call, but it got the message across. But that's not to say the Coachman could NEVER be punished, because one of his victims got away and could tell people what happened. Gepetto could go to authorities and tell them that somebody was breaking the law and taking the boys to Pleasure Island. It may take some work, but they can and could catch him and make him pay.

Though no events from ENS were mentioned in KNG either. Based on this, I personally like to think they take place in separate universes; basically separate canons. Yzma is alive in the ENS universe. But she POSSIBLY died in the KNG universe. That said though, she has survived some pretty ridiculous stuff, especially for her age. Her surviving the demon hatchlings isn't exactly off the table.

You know... there's one villain that I am surprised wasn't in this list... Dr. Facilier, the witchdoctor from Princess and the Frog. Sure, he gets dragged into his grave, and it's implied he was killed... but I'd wager he wasn't. Instead, he'd probably be suffering a similar fate to Hades, though on a smaller scale, since he is mortal... though I imagine the spirits wouldn't let him die, but also because... well... the Styx is incredibly painful, so Hades is still in a far worse situation. Reasoning for my theory, by the way, is because of the nature of voodoo and it's applications for torture. It doesn't usually kill, but make others suffer.

In fact being a cat comes with a ton of perks. Since she was turned into a baby cat she probably has a longer life span ahead of her than she would have had in her human form. They didn't make her go to jail or anything just got watched by her old henchman, that's kinda super light considering her crime was attempted murder of her own sovereign just for firing her. Hopefully in the live-action Pinocchio, the coachman gets what’s coming to him. Maybe he gets eaten by Monstro after Pinocchio and Gepeto escape. Hades end doesn’t make sense. He is the god of death, he should be able to escape the River of Styx, let alone be able to cross it without needing Charon to fairy him. I don’t know if they will make a live action Hercules, but here are a few changes I would want to see. 1. Hades want to take over Mount Olympus because it’s his birthright and Zeus tricked him out of Olympus and fabricated the story that he(Zeus) took out all the titans. 2. Phil wants to train the greatest hero just like how his master trained Perseus, who got his own constellation in the night sky. 3. Hercules’s first monster is the Nimean Lion 4. Hades does end up in the River of Styx after getting punched, but it’s more like he is taking a swim.

Hercules was one of Zeus' many bastard sons, it wasn't Hades but Hera who wanted to kill him. The twelve labours? Hercules punishment after murdering his wife (Meagra... yeah, he killed her) and his sons in a fit of rage. Hades interacted with Heracles once, when he came into the Underworld to fetch Cerberus as the 12th labour. (He permitted it, as long as Hercules did not use any weapons to subdue his dog). Oh and Tanathos is the god of death and Hades is the Ruler of the afterlife as well as the god of wealth. In Cinderella 3, Lady Tremaine and Drizella end up getting turned into frogs, and then later end up as maids. In 101 Dalmatians 2, Cruella goes insane and gets thrown into an asylum, possibly leading to the live-action 102 Dalmatians, where she loses her entire fortune and gets arrested. In Kronk's New Groove, Yzma becomes human again, but then gets turned into a bunny, and in the TV sequel, The Emperor's New School, she ends up being forced to be Kronk's secretary. With Edgar being sent to Timbuktu, it's possible he died of thirst during the trip. Hans punishment in Frozen Fever is shown to be having to work in the royal stables, shoveling manure. Jafar actually dies in Return Of Jafar, and in an episode crossover of Hercules/Aladdin, he gets dragged into the River Styx. Seeing as Hades is trapped in the River Styx, his fate is basically the same as all the damned souls who end up in it.

depending on how importent the trade is the duke is in potentialy big trouble, also if he is the subject of some king or something like that he might be in a even bigger trouble. oh and the other guy from that movie is defenitly in some big trouble for the crap he tryed to do unless he is a royal prince or something like that he would most likely not have nearly the same level of protection that the duke have, and monarcs dont like it when their subjects makes a political incident like that. its frowned on to the degree that your family lose a large part ir not all their land and fortune and might be exiled to some area far away in the kingdom or teritory controlled and to the degree to the main person doing the deed that its a large chance to get hanged or a lot of other nasty ways to die. hanging and beheading is some of the cleanest ways unless other punishments are done first. if done in the correct way getting hanged will break your neck, but you might also have your head riped of your body or slowely choke to death all depending on the length of the rope. having your head choped of if done correctly is quick but some executioners did not do it well. there is acctualy a book wirthen by a executioner i think from what is now germany.

In the Sega Genesis game, Pinocchio kicks the coachman off a cliff. Also, Cruella's car doesn't just crash, it gets smashed to pieces. Plus, she and her minions also wound up wrecking a telephone pole, which they're likely to get arrested for. Plus, since they never got paid, Horace and Jasper are likely to testify against her in court.

You guys didn't bring sequels into consideration: Yzma regained her human form in the sequel, so in my opinion she got off easy. Jafar died at the end of The Return of Jafar when his lamp was destroyed (Iago kicked it into lava). So yes, he suffered a lethal fate.

Some enemies (Aunt Sarah in "Lady and the Tramp", the knights in "Sword in the Stone", and the human brother in "Brother Bear") fit a fourth category: "turned into friends". Also, they forgot about the gossiping elephants in "Dumbo", who also get off easy. They just get shelled with peanuts.

Frozen: From a certain point of view, Hans and the Duke can be seen as the ones more concerned about the people. First off, Elsa, whether intentionally or not, did freeze up the entire region within her kingdom, and ran away, with no interest of returning, or taking responsibility, to the point that she was willing to kill her own soldiers and citizens. (Which, Hans of everyone saved from Elsa.) In the meantime, Anna, handed the keys to the kingdom to Hans to run things, while she ditched, yes to chase down her sister, but she had very little interest in actually doing her job, as Hans got to Elsa before Anna. One can argue that she abandoned her duties as a princess. Hans and the Duke actually ran things in the frozen city rather responsibly, and considered the well-being of the citizenry, going so far that Hans himself was delivering the blankets to all the people, even forgoing his own well-being. I'd actually be concerned that no one in the kingdom chose Hans, since he was the one who ran everything and took care of things. Elsa and Anna flouted their responsibilities to run away, and rather live like spoiled girls. In fact, Elsa and Anna's parents are the evil ones in the movie. Instead of trying to solve the problem, they taught their daughters to run away from issues. Not to mention, they didn't educate their daughters. It's bad enough, that Pocahontas is probably better educated and more literate than the two of them... And Pocahontas was not exposed to reading and writing, until after she met John Smith.

You forgot Dr. Facilier, In the movie The Princess and The Frog (2005), when he gets dragged to the underworld, he is dragged to hell to be tortured forever. His song "Are you ready" even plays before going to hell (The Other Side portrayed in the film), knowing damn well what is gonna happen to him. He is alive, being tortured in hell, wishing for death.

Interesting list. Here are some of my thoughts with info from sequels and other knowledge. ~Lady Tremaine was turned into a frog and scullery maid at the end of Cinderella 3, but she doesn't face harsher consequences in the second film or the third one for her actions. It's even stated in a book called Cinderella's Diary or something that they were still invited to the wedding in the original film but were sat next to the kitchens so Cinderella wouldn't necessarily have to see or speak to them. In short, they really got of lucky. (Anastasia has a redemption arc in the 2nd and 3rd movie) ~Yzma was turned into a cat at the end of the first film but she became mostly human again in Kronk's New Groove. The end of that film has her transform into a rabbit and be potentially "eaten" by hawk babies. And anybody in this comments section bringing up the television series; I'm pretty sure that takes place between the first and second film chronologically. All in all; Yzma has a pretty bad fate in the end (if you believe she was eaten; if not, then I'm not sure where she would fall tbh) ~Edgar did most likely die in that trunk if we're being honest, ngl ~Jafar does die in the 2nd film. He teams up with Hades on the show Hercules, where they try to take down Aladdin, then Hercules. Not inaccurate placement for just the first film though.

Technically he got the ending to the fox and the hound wrong partially . Tod was spared by amous not because he thought the bear he was spared because cooper got in the way. Amous was still going to Shoot him but then copper got in front of the gun barrel and he sad whimpered. Amous was not willingly to hurt copper to get at tod. The sequel which isn’t even techinically a full sequel was totally unnecessary. FYI cruela did get arrested in the first two live action dalamatipn movies and got sprayed by a skunk and in the sequel baked into a cake and survived some how.
