I’m kind of on an island, I really like the “start of turn” win conditions. One of the things that made me fall in love with the game was having those victories swatted away. If you are concerned about over fating being an issue would you consider using the fate token at 4 players? That means only 2 people could fate you before your turn came back around, which doesn’t seem unreasonable to try and stop that victory (to me). Thanks for another great video…always in for villainous content!!!

I enjoy the immediate objectives for the “sneaky win” potential, but I also really like Start of Turn objectives because it requires an extra level of strategy where the TIMING of when you put your board in “win on your next turn position” is so key. I like that you have to know your Fate Deck well enough to know which cards need to already be in the discard pile and that you have to pay attention to other players and factor in whether they can Fate you or not on their turn. It requires you to wait and seize the perfect moment and it feels so satisfying when you do it successfully. So I hope we haven’t seen the end of all Start Your Turn villains.

The problem with the "start of turn" condition is that the win condition OUTSIDE of Start of turn is just as difficult as other villains who don't have it. So it's really a handicap AND a target. I think the only one that does it well is Maleficent, because her condition is not difficult at all... and MAYBE Prince John because his Fates don't set him back too much. You can survive a round and even if you don't you'll probably get the condition AGAIN the next turn.

Review DC Deckbuilding. It's a great 2 player game and easy to learn. I 100% agree with this game being a family friendly game to play and enjoy the villain. The competitive aspect is very toxic with people constantly correcting and over analyzing every little thing. I'm glad you emphasized "family friendly."

I think one of the big problems with Marvel Villainous is confusion regarding the cards and some balance issues with mixing the Fates. I've played once, and I played as Killmonger and I came across two issues 1. When sending a bomb to another player's board it was unclear what could actually remove that bomb. There is a character, Hatut, who "chooses a targeted player and returns an item to that person's hand". There was a discussion as to whether or not this could remove the bomb on another player's board. I think it was intended that this removes a bomb, but if the bomb is not on Killmonger's board it's unclear because it says "returns it to the targeted player's hand". If someone targets my bomb it CAN'T be returned to the targeted player's hand because he can't possess my bomb. 2. Hela has the VERY op ability of resurrecting a hero and playing them to anyone's board. If she's playing against Killmonger she can continuously resurrect Black Panther and basically stop him from winning if he doesn't have an answer to it. Which is tough to come up with usually. Basically you have to time it so that you can vanquish Black Panther AND send a bomb out before Hela can use that ability again, which she can every other turn.

The explosives can’t be removed by another player. You answered that one on your own! Hela can resurrect Black Panther - but this costs a lot of power for her to do over and over. Instead you can just not give the soul stone and set yourself up to win - then vanquish BP. Thanks for watching!

First off I am new to this community and I love it! I just have a thought about Marvel’s Villainous fate deck. We are a large family, I have 7 children ages 20-7. We love Disney Villainous so much and had to try Marvel’s Villainous. It is becoming a favorite in our home. We’ve only played a few time but the group fate deck and event cards work for us. I like the event cards because it requires cooperation and, as a mom, I want my kids to learn to cooperate even if we are trying to be the bad guys haha. I also like the idea of putting a fate from one person’s realm into a not so obvious realm it adds a little spice to the game for us. Anyway just wanted to share a different thought. Thanks for wonderful videos I’ve learned so much!

Yes I assume most players love the shared fate deck. I find myself mostly indifferent. But Tim doesn’t like it too much! So fun to hear all the opinions :) and thanks so much for listening!

Such a great collaboration! It's a shame Prospero Hall, after being bought by Funko, stopped designing the Villainous for Ravensburger, now that another team took over, it really showed in the latest Dispicable Plots expansion, some interesting concept that was on the drawing board seems to have gotten lost in translation (e.g. the still controversial Maurice's Invention even after reprints), not to mention the inconsistency of wording regarding fate items and other rules. Crossing my fingers the future products will be better in quality, well, from your impression of the "preview", sounded to be the case! Regarding the "fate issue", I mostly play the game 1v1, but I do remember later on they introduced a fate token rule in 4 or more player games to avoid a player getting fated continuously unless another player gets fated in between.

I don’t mind typos, every game has them. But what I dislike is bad character design. And so far I haven’t seen that. I love the asymmetry in the newer villains. Also the next set is really clean. Very excited for the future!

My first experience was like you. Another friend couple came over and brought marvel villainous. We LOVED it but my wife is not as into marvel as the other 3 of us. However, we both LOVE Disney. So after finding your ranking and character videos and watching them about 5 times each, I bought all the sets and can’t wait for the next one!

My husband and I loved this video. We literally have done almost everything you’ve said in here. 🤣 Fate decks that are completely savage are Mother GOTHEL and Cruella. Literally every card can wreck your board. Totally agree on the start your turn boards. My husband has mastered Facilier and so I completely stopped playing those “start your turn” boards because he would wreck me every time lol.

Honestly, I somewhat disagree that Thanos is easier to go against in a one on one. Maybe it’s just the way my brother and I play but we tend to find Thanos absolutely demolishing the other villains since we both know of a good strategy of setting up Nowhere with the space throne and death’s favor, getting a stone out then then sending an ally in and out, the last two steps we are usually able to do in one turn. And so it almost becomes impossible for the other villain to have allies since Thanos just keeps bombarding them until he’s won.

Man having 3 friends fate me would be terrible. We play that a person who is fated cannot be fated again until another player is fated. I believe it is a rule in the game and there is a gate token to indicate who is fated.

Yes! For 4 to 6 players they say add the token. I know groups have house ruled that token for lower player counts but I figured I would review it as the game rules are. Also originally it was 5-6 it has since been updated in later boxes

Becca Scott on Game the Game got me into board gaming. I remember that playthrough and when they did the first expansion I was hooked on Villainous. When I found your strategy guides I became even more blessed with the games. Jafar and Dr. Facilier are my favorite characters to play as. Love the review and the content!

I agree that this started as a family strategy game but eventually became a competitive strategy game where designers catered more to them. I lost interest in Marvel Villainous when I learned MODOK can be completely locked out with no chance of winning (She-Hulk from base fate deck, Kate Bishop, AIM Revolt, and MODOK's only vanquish action is covered by either one). I worry if expansions for either game are rushed where not enough time is available to test them properly. I still want to know who wins as Hades a lot when he has a Start Turn goal and needs 3 Titans untrapped in Mt. Olympus, which is challenging with his fate deck. In my experience, the Dr. Facilier or Pete players never lost. I was Pete in a 3 player game. My two friends fated only me with their fate actions, and I STILL won that game! I vanquished Mickey Mouse right after he was played to my realm. I also kept winning with Dr. Facilier even when fated relentlessly.

Yes. I’ve said many times the game isn’t balanced. There isn’t a way it could be. There are clearly villains far better than others. And it’s funny because Hades is an EXTREMELY tough character to win with. But no one gets on prospero for not testing properly. Always irks me. What I do know is Bigger and Badder has a nice range of new villains. One catered more for group play. One more competitive at 2. And one that works well at all

@@LordoftheBoard What surprises me is how some said they will never play the new expansions after Funko bought out Prospero claiming the new characters weren't balanced. They hold Prospero in a divine light and all I can remember is complaints on BGG about Captain Hook was unbeatable when I found putting taunts on other heroes (At least the Lost Boys) will make him sacrifice his allies for them before Peter Pan comes out.

Now that the three Villains I predicted are out of the way, even though I guessed Gaston & The Hornd King right for the Despicable Plots & Madam Mim for the Bigger and Badder. The Next 3 Villains I would predict, is Chernabog, Shere Khan, & the Pixar Villain.... Ernesto De La Cruz! Hear me out on that one. Ernesto De La Cruz stole Hector's song for Hector's daughter Coco, by poisoning him. Chernabog is the Huge devil in Night on Bald Mountain, it could happen. & Shere Khan is Hungry for the Man cub which is Mowgli.

Re: start of turn Objectives. You get the same phenomenon of "this player is at win con, Fate them" with every Villain, it's just much more obvious with start-of-turns because it's right there on the board. But Fating PJ when he has 20 Power is no different than Fating LT when she has a BG daughter at the Castle, Wedding Bells in play, and no Glass Slippers on the board. The only difference is that their "win con" is one step removed from what's written on their board.

Yeah it’s just a clear signal. Not being able to immediately win I don’t really jive with, it feels less strategic for me and more luck based. But that’s just a personal opinion of mine. :)

The way I play Villainous is very dark. The Villains escape the asylum and has mayhem, revenge, and murderous tendencies. I got into the game two years ago and own all the expansions in both genres. Can’t wait for Star Wars.

I would LOVE to have Shan Yu in the next expansion pack too!!!! Like he would be so awesome in this game. Also I appreciate you guys shouting out the solitaire. I found out about this game over lockdown and was hesitant to buy it because i would have no one to play with, but I discovered solo rules on line and then went out and bought it right away. it is the first and only game that does not suck to play by yourself in my opinion. It's better with others, but doesn't completely suck solo. My favourite to this day is the Evil Queen! I lover her so much. I also agree with what Sam said about running out of villains some day since they are only releasing movies now with no villains in them, which i understand but I don't 100% like that.

19:37 we made a home rule exactly for this. There are villians that just cant win if you are playing in a 3+ player game. Maleficent, Hades and Scar for example, if they get fated two times in a row, then it is really likely for them to get some card that just stops them for winning over and over. So our madeup rule is to not being able to fate the same player two times before his turn (this simulates the 1 vs 1 "fate rate"). .

See, I *love* winning with those Villains in 3+ player games, because it requires a lot more of social gaming - you have to convince everyone that Dr. Facilier over there is much more of a threat, little ol' Scar can't possibly be anywhere near win con right now.

Oh my gosh 19:50 is what happened in my play - we played 4p and by the end 3 of us were super close to winning and had been close to winning for like 5 rounds, but everyone else would target the person when they were about to win. I don't remember if they were start of turn win conditions though. We had Ursula, Maleficent, and Hook all close to winning. But that game dragged on way too long, and that's why we didn't like it 😥 In the intro of Tangled the narrator introduces her as Mother Gothel. I don't think Rapunzel says it though.

I would say my only complaint was they put 3 headline box villains in the original box: Ursula, Jafar and Maleficent. I really enjoy the fact of the balance of the popularity of the villains in each box. I also have noticed that the game likes to make sure their is female representation in each box. The problem we have with future boxes is lack of female villains as I only see 3 DAC villains remaining. If I got to make a box it would have King Candy, Assistant Mayor Belleweather and Ernesto de La Cruz.

Hey! Love the game and Love your videos Question: Where would a fan go to be able to give suggestions to the creators of the game? I have completely fell in love with the game and want to see if keep developing new characters to add. Idk if these characters have ever been mentioned by a fan in the past but Shan Yu from Mulan ( objective ) conquer China and Defeat the Emperor King Candy from Wreck it Ralph ( objective ) win the race and rule over Sugar Rush Henry J Waternoose III From Monsters Inc ( objective ) scare X Amount of children and destroy boos door.. These are just some examples that i came up with on a whim that i think could make really additions lol
