Disney Wonder Day 3: Hawaii Has Some Surprises Up Its Sleeve

Again, we were on your same itinerary - Aulani + Disney Wonder from Honolulu to Vancouver this year. You guys did what we should have! I'm fascinated by volcanoes, so I was really looking forward to the Big Island! I'd booked a helicopter tour of Kilauea and east Hawaii. You were there, so you can guess how the helicopter tour ended up - cancelled! We spent the day on the ship, which wasn't the worst consolation prize. My wife enjoyed a long and greatly-discounted massage from Senses Spa, and I had a great time photographing and videoing decks 9 & 10 in the periodic monsoons you experienced in the Jeep. Best part of this video was seeing ourselves in Tiana's Place at 18:09 in your vlog!!! I thought we were on the same dining rotation based on the restaurant sequence in your vlogs - just wasn't sure if you were early or late. Before this cruise, we had a 7-night Mexican Riviera on the Wonder in April of 2025 as our next cruise. Now we have the 4-night to Catalina and Ensenada ahead of the 7-night for a B2B, and a 7-night on the Fantasy out of Southampton, U.K. to Northern Europe B2B with the 7-night British Isles added to our pending reservations list! These things are so addicting!!! :) Looking forward to the next one!!!

Welcome back @dvandkq It’s a bummer that you didn’t get to experience the helicopter tour. That would have been an epic way to see the crater. That’s so cool we were on the same rotation, I’m sure we saw you around. The ship wasn’t quite big enough to not have crossed paths with everyone at least once in 11 days. Your upcoming itineraries sound exciting. You’re living our dream. 😆 On another note, I notice you ride motorcycles. It’s always nice to meet another biker.

Hi! How much time did you need to explore VNP? We’re doing this cruise in Feb but in Hilo we have to be back on the ship before 3 pm 😬

Do you know when your disembarkment is scheduled for? Allow for some time to get the shuttle to the airport where you pick up your rental car. It’s about 20 minutes between shuttles. We had to wait for one shuttle run. It’s a 45 minute drive from Hilo to VNP. Keep in mind the 45 minutes back to Hilo and give yourself margin of about 30 minutes to an hour for the rental drop off. They ask that you drop your party off at the ship and then have just the driver drop off the vehicle and catch the shuttle back. This adds a little time. This should help you determine your window of time at the park itself. Hope this helps!

If it was us we would do it. It’s certainly worth seeing and the timing should be just fine. With that said, make your own assessment.
